Photo-op president shooting blanks
New York Post, by Michael A. Walsh

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 1/17/2013 5:18:33 AM

President Obama’s exercise in gun legislation by photo-op and executive order yesterday may cheer liberals and outrage the NRA, but it will do almost nothing to curb gun violence. Some of the new rules — 23 in all — may at first glance seem reasonable, such as expanding the amount of information available for background checks. So does the boilerplate admonition to “launch a national safe and responsible gun-ownership campaign.” (But, psst, the National Rifle Association’s been doing that for years.) And some actually make sense, such as helping schools and churches develop more effective emergency-response programs. But all these are tepid, marginal stuff.

Note to author: an "assault weapon ban" has already been tried to no effect.
I´m sure the ACLU is getting on those potential civil liberty violations as we speak.

Confident that he often reads my posts here on these Lucianne threads… BHO, I suggest you immediately drop whatever it is you’re doing and instead find and carefully read and learn a thing or two from yesterday’s column by Ann Coulter entitled ”Guns Don’t Kill People, the Mentally Ill Do.” I assure you it’ll be time well spent.

No need to thank me. But, if you insist, you’re welcome.

The author claims these proposals won´t work and then points out that several recent mass murderers passed background checks. That is the point! The background checklist is not getting nearly enough information. Why, it isn´t even possible today for a seriously mental ill person to voluntarily get his name added to the list (reasoning that he knows he obsesses about guns during a psychotic episode and he might have another such episode at some point). The background lists need to be more complete and universally used.

I read the one about nominating an ATF director three times. Is Mr. Obama really issue an executive order compelling himself to fill a job he´s left vacant for four years? I can´t put my finger on why that sounds so loopy, but I take it as evidence that rule by executive order has officially gotten out of hand.

FTA ~ “Direct the attorney general to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.”

Well a dangerous person did slip through the cracks to become pRESIDENT. No one ever reviewed his ´category´. As a result we are subjected to daily assaults on our rights.

The name of the insurance company escapes me at the moment but if they ever want to choose a new ´Mayhem Guy´ Zippy would fit the bill. Now THERE is a commercial I would watch.

I suspect why so little emphasis on the real reason for these school shootings; mental health, is that Obama would rather take on the NRA - an easy target in his eyes than the ACLU.

Curious as to how much more extensive do we want background checks to purchase a gun? Why not background checks to buy a car? I seem to recall some Iranian who ran over a bunch of people at some univeristy a few years ago. Or perhaps background checks when purchasing some common household poisons - I´m sure a few people have been killed by rat poison over the years....

Reply 9 - Posted by: sadc, 1/17/2013 9:32:53 AM     (No. 9121831)

None of the background checks or precautions in place or to be in place would have stopped the mass murders. All slipped through because you can´t know what is in a person´s mind. That is why the only logical defense is to have sane, responsible persons available and ready to stand up to a mad man or woman. LaPierre was mocked but he is right. The only way to defeat a bad guy with a gun is to have a good guy with a gun. Or a good grandmother with a gun.

We could laugh at Obama´s posteuring except for the fact that he is proposing to spend several billions of dollars on, I know not what, as he has not been very specific about that.

Obama is exhibiting traits that should repulse voters. He is a serial liar , he contradicts himself, saying while he is in office the exact opposite of what he said when he was not, cruel, rude, shameless, hateful and prejudiced. His worshippers brush all this aside when he smiles and tells them: "It´s really very simple, if the Republicans would just" (whatever).

Obama is all about the show. I am sure that when this tragedy happened that he and his administration recognized it as a opportunity not to be missed and the talking points went out before the nightly news. This man has no shame and will use anything to advance his agenda. Dancing on the graves of these children meant nothing more than a means to an end to him.

FTA- "And Obama’s notion of dragooning the country’s doctors into a network of snitches
who ask their patients if they have guns at home is just repugnant."

This part of Obamacare is known
as " Snitches Not Stitches ".
BTW-Under Obamacare , during the yearly " free " physical exam , physicians are prohibited ..by Obama´s federal law,
from discussing any other conditions other than the original reason for the visit.
If you schedule your yearly " free " exam to discuss a backache-that is the only topic the doctor can discuss with you. Period. End.
If you decide to tell him about your headaches ,
the doctor ,
by law, will have to tell you to stop.
Every visit has to be coded for a specific problem .
The annual wellness visit cannot be coded
with any other
ailment or the physician can be charged with insurance fraud and can possibly lose his license.
If you want to discuss your headaches , you now have to make another appointment,
which will delay any diagnostic testing.
The same Obama that forbids doctors from discussing more than one physical problem during the exam,
will now permit / force
the doctors to discuss guns.

I agree with #16. I suggest never telling your doctor you are feeling just a little down, or you would like something to help you out of the doldrums. The Feds will soon have the ability to track your prescriptions and all they need to do is compare them to a list of medicines used for those purposes. Next, a knock on your door ----- give me your guns!

Agree with #21. I would never discuss the issue of guns with a physician. It is none of your doctor´s business. And it´s none of your childrens´ teachers business, either.

There are far more deaths from illegal guns in the inner city and from gangs than are committed by "mentally ill" individuals.

Shooting blanks makes noise, and distracts, making people think about the noise. Meanwhile, what is being done to cut federal government spending??

What is being done by the democratics to come up with a budget...it´s been over three years since a budget has been passed, and by law it is supposed to be done annually.

It must be that the laws are for everyone else to follow, and our enlightened elites in Washington D.C. can´t be burdened with silly laws or even the constitution.

The quasi-official ideology of the U.S. armed forces holds that generals are virtually interchangeable, that individual personalities don’t matter much, that ordinary grunts are in any case more important than their leaders, and that what really counts are larger systems that make a complex bureaucracy function. There is some truth to all of this. But for all of the bureaucratic heft of the services and the heroism of ordinary soldiers, it is hard to imagine the Civil War having been won without Grant, Sherman, and Sheridan—or World War II without Marshall, Eisenhower, Patton, Bradley, Arnold, LeMay, Nimitz, Halsey,

The Supreme Court could soon end one of the federal government´s most archaic practices. Since the 1930s, the Agriculture Department has turned California raisin growers into pawns of its Raisin Administrative Committee, which can commandeer up to half of the farmer´s crop and then pay them little or nothing for the product. There are many who scoff at Andrew Cuomo’s chances in a presidential primary campaign, but I am not among them. His name is an iconic Democratic brand, he’s forceful on the stump and a prodigious fund-raiser. Besides, somebody has to win the nomination. Of course, there are hurdles. Saint Hillary is gearing up to run, and there will be a scrum among contenders, probably including Vice President Joe Biden, competing just to be Clinton’s top rival. Washington have? In today´s Army, a one-star general is a brigadier; two stars is a major general; three stars is a lieutenant general; four stars is just plain general. During World War II, Congress created the five-star general, the modern rank of general of the Army. There had been an earlier grade that was called general of the Army,
