Second-Term Reckonings
PJ Media, by Victor Davis Hanson

Original Article

A rule of the modern age: all confident, reelected presidents trip up in the second term. LBJ was sunk by Vietnam. Reagan faced Iran-Contra. Bill Clinton had his comeuppance with Monica. George W. Bush was overwhelmed with the Iraqi insurgency and Katrina. And Obama will have his as well, obsequious media or not. Supposedly fundamental partisan swings of an era usually prove transitory: LBJ’s landside led to Nixon four years later, whose landslide then led to Carter in 1980, whose supposed new politics of humility and apology led to Reagan, whose small government-paradigm shift nonetheless by 1992

2nd term presidents get a little nuts. Richard Nixon actually thought he could tame inflation by executive order - and implemented across the board Wage and Price Controls.

Obama´s nickel plating will wear off and even Dem voters will realize that he has fixed nothing. HealthCare, the Economy and Crime are all worse than when he took office. With Taxes going up and paychecks shrinking - things are going from bad to worse.

Excellent comprehensive article by V.D.H. A "must read" for sure.

I believe the answer to the question at the end of the article is that the Soros/ValJar connection keep pushing him to complete the agenda, and not one glimmer of reality is permitted to be examined. The god-complex of these people is not to be denied. It will in the end bring them all crashing down.

@2, your final thought is of great anticipation to us, if only we would not first be destroyed. There is yet some hope, however small, that enough people will become outraged to the extent that they take what action they can, even if it´s passive resistance. Regardless, it will be messy.

Could Have Been Dress Rehearsal
for Terror Attack on Power Grid
Washington Free Beacon, by Staff    Original Article

An attack on California electrical transformers in April is believed by some to be a practice round for a terrorist attack on the U.S. power grid. The coordinated attack began outside of Silicon Valley where attackers cut telephone wires at 1 a.m. on April 16, according to the Wall Street Journal. About half an hour later snipers shot at an electrical substation for about 19 minutes, destroying 17 transformers in the process. The attackers escaped before police arrived and remain at large. It took 27 days to repair the substation and crews had to reroute power around the site using Silicon Valley power

It was a Monday morning in mid-December at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the day of closing arguments in the matter of the Board of Regents of the University of Texas System v. Ryan O’Neal, and the show was just minutes from getting under way. Outside the courtroom, the players milled about. O’Neal was strolling down the courthouse hallway in a navy blazer, an open-collared light-blue shirt, and dark pants. Seventy-two years old and still impossibly youthful, with only a touch of graying hair, he wore gold-rimmed sunglasses and held a plastic water bottle, which he wiggled before him

Embattled Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis has spent more than $131,000 in campaign funds to pay for luxury apartments in Austin, Texas, since her election to the Texas State Senate in 2008, according to a Washington Free Beacon analysis. While such use of campaign funds is legal in Texas, the amounts involved and properties rented may undermine Davis’s campaign persona of a working class single mom, observers tell the Free Beacon. Davis, whose permanent address is in Fort Worth, lists government accountability as a primary issue on her campaign website, which says she opposes elected officials who “have turned state agencies and

In the aftermath of an IRS targeting scandal that may have influenced the 2012 election, in the midst of criminal and congressional investigations, while civil litigation is pending in federal court, before a single deposition is taken and while the IRS clings to tens of thousands of documents, the president of the United States has spoken. His meaning is clear. Move along, nothing to see here. In his Super Bowl Sunday interview with Bill O’Reilly, President Obama declared that the IRS scandal was the product of “boneheaded decisions,” and there was “not even a smidgen of corruption.”I suppose that’s just

Obamacare supporters have boasted about an uptick in Medicaid enrollments, but does the program offer much more than an insurance card? Health-care consulting firm Merritt Hawkins conducted a survey of Medicaid acceptance rates which found that just 45.7 percent of physicians are now accepting Medicaid patients in the U.S.’s largest 15 cities. The federal welfare program cuts costs by reimbursing physicians at extremely low rates, preventing many doctors from seeing patients with Medicaid coverage. The report considered care in 15 cities and across five specialties, and also cataloged wait times to access physicians given any insurance plan across the spectrum using 2013

For years, the White House has trotted out the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office to show that Obamacare would cut health-care costs and reduce deficits: “CBO Confirms Families Will Save Money Under Health Reform.” “CBO Update Shows Lower Costs for the New Health Care Law.” “CBO Confirms: The Health Care Law Reduces the Deficit.” Live by the sword, die by the sword, the Bible tells us. In Washington, it’s slightly different: Live by the CBO, die by the CBO.

Strangely enough, most liberal takes on the State of Obama, which is said to be perilous, come couched in the most passive tense. The hostile Republican House just happens to be there. The Tea Party also just happens to be there, a spontaneous thing that sprang up for no reason. The same thing goes for the toxic divide now gripping the country, which Gallup calls one of the deepest rifts ever, worse than the days of Bubba and Dubya (brothers under the skin, as they will now tell you), from which President Obama had promised relief. As with the opposition, the polarization

The Old Guard is the name familiarly given to the 3rd U.S. Infantry, an active-duty unit based in Washington, D.C. They serve as the President’s escort, and more publicly, serve as sentinels at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. It’s a high honor to be chosen to serve in the Old Guard, as the selection process is rigorous. They take their job incredibly seriously, as you see in the video above: a few seconds into the video, some people disrespect the sanctity of the memorial by loudly talking and laughing. The Affordable Care Act, aka ObamaCare, became law almost four years ago. It became operational last Oct. 1. Yesterday, Feb. 4, 2014, the ACA may well have been dealt its death blow. The Congressional Budget Office released a major study of the government’s budget and its effect on the overall economy over the next 10 years. In dull bureaucratic language, it delivers a devastating analysis of the inefficiencies, ineffectualities and problematic social costs of ObamaCare. The one-two punch: Virtually as many Americans will lack health coverage in 10 years as before the law was passed — but 2 million fewer

Of all the media-savvy decisions that our friends in the alarmists’ camp have made in recent years, the finest was to change their branding. “Global warming” is a clear hypothesis, subject to investigation and to criticism; “Global cooling,” likewise. But “climate change”? Now that is beautifully and efficaciously ambiguous — less an ironclad prediction and more an ersatz Rorschach test onto which anything and everything can be projected. Taking firm advantage of the term’s cloudy meaning, Obama’s chief of staff, Denis McDonough, announced on Face the Nation this weekend that he was vexed by a “very chilling story in the New

The Congressional Budget Office estimated on Tuesday that the Affordable Care Act will reduce the number of full-time workers by 2.5 million over the next decade. That is mostly a good thing, a liberating result of the law. Of course, Republicans immediately tried to brand the findings as “devastating” and stark evidence of President Obama’s health care reform as a failure and a job killer. It is no such thing. (SNIP) The new law will free people, young and old, to pursue careers or retirement without having to worry about health coverage.

Under his plan, the Federal Communications Commission will also spend $2 billion to connect 20 million students to wireless technologies.
