Leahy on guns: Treat
children better than deer

Washington Times [DC], by Stephen Dinan

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 1/16/2013 12:43:31 PM

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said Wednesday that he supports closing the gun-show loophole and limiting high-capacity ammunition magazines, and said he´ll convene the first hearings surrounding the Sandy Hook school shooting. Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, the chamber´s senior Democrat, said his home state of Vermont, which has a strong tradition of gun rights, has a rule limiting hunters using semiautomatic rifles to just six rounds of ammunition during deer-hunting seasons."Are we really saying as a nation we´re going to be more protective of the deer than we are of our children? I think not," he said.

We need to be more protective of people with mental health problems. Leahy should be the first to be protected.

Leaky Leahy opened his mouth and people died.
This POS had the audacity to read off the names of secret operatives fighting for our side and afterwards they were killed. Happened back in the late 70´s, early 80´s.

Like the majority of Democrats, Leahy is a MURDERER.

What a specious argument. Why not use PA as the example, in PA you are not allowed to use a semiauto to hunt anything. Semi Auto sales in PA are just as vigourous as they are everywhere else.

Most folks buy Bushmasters and AR15s because they are just plain fun to shoot. Is it congress´ job to regulate fun?

There is no city on the planet where anyone needs or could even fully use an automobile that can reach over 140 MPH. There is no state in the union that allows a car to travel even 100mph.

Should we ban automobiles capable of speeds in excess of 90mph because no one can use them? Would hollywood and professional sports give up their Porsces and Ferraris because they cannot legally go as fast as the car allows?

No individual needs to purchase alcohol in half gallon jugs. Even commercial bars and restaurants use only fifths. Half gallons just make straw purchases for minors easier. Shouldn´t we require a permit for half gallon booze bottles? After all buying that amount says you are throwing a party. People drive drunk after parties does not the government have a public health responsibility to ensure that only a certain quantity of alcohol per legal guest is available. To save the children from early death due to drunk drivers? Shouldn´t we limit the amount of liquor allowed to be stored in a home for the same reason?

Argumentum ad absurdum.

The Second Amendment has never had anything whatsoever to do with hunting. It does not say "a well regulated hunting sport. . ."

The 2nd Amendment is about a well armed populace being able to deter and, if necessary, stop a tyrannical government.

The punk in the White House has tendencies in that direction. Congress needs to stop this baloney.

Hammers and fists are used to kill far more people than ALL rifles each year, modern defensive rifles are a tiny subset of all rifles.

The Second Amendment has never had anything whatsoever to do with hunting. The 2nd Amendment is about a well armed populace being able to deter and, if necessary, stop a tyrannical government, exactly like we did with a tyrranical British rule.

Hammers and fists are used to kill far more people than ALL rifles each year (FBI stat), modern defensive rifles are a tiny subset of all rifles. "Assault weapons" (a meaningless, inaccurate pejorative) are already banned Connecticut.

There is an INVERSE correlation between gun control and violence. The ONLY thing that stops a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, be it a policeman, armed guard or a legally armed private citizen.

#9´s right. Leahy should be spending his life in jail for his crimes.

#4, #12, remember, "well-regulated" simply means trained to a proper level of competence with the weapons. And "militia" means the pool of competent citizens who can turn out for armed defense against our enemies... foreign and domestic.

#15: Agreed -- if "gun-free zones" are the best approach [and who among our "leaders" would advise less for our kids?], then "gun-free zones" should be the answer for the politicians.

AUGUSTA, Ga.— Bubba Watson has won the Masters for the second time in three years. Watson claimed another green jacket by shooting a 3-under 69 in the final round Sunday, fending off Jordan Spieth’s bid to become the youngest major champion since 1931. The 20-year-old Texan led by two shots heading to the eighth hole, but the tournament changed suddenly. Watson made two straight birdies, Spieth took back-to-back bogeys — and just like that, Watson was up by two strokes at the turn.
