A group of House Democrats are introducing legislation to abolish the debt ceiling, saying uncertainty surrounding the hikes causes unnecessary pain to the economy. The lawmakers — who will unveil the bill Thursday — accuse Republicans of hurting the economy by ransoming a hike in the debt ceiling for steep spending cuts. They argue uncertainty over whether the U.S. will raise the debt ceiling will roil markets and damage confidence in the U.S. economy. The Dem lawmakers behind the bill are Reps. Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), Hank Johnson (Ga.), Jim Moran (Va.), Jan Schakowsky (Ill.), Keith Ellison (Minn.)
Comments: What a fine group of Democrats we have here. s/o When this doesn´t pass the House will this give 0bama the go ahead for another Executive Order to go around Congress? Nothing would surprise me from these criminals. What happened to their cries that 0bama has the authority under the 14th Amendment?
The ignorance and arrogance of 0bama and the dems is appalling. They have no knowledge of how economics work. Spend, spend, spend. Right now, because of policy, people are allowed to live very high using their credit cards, buy anything they want, then wipe the slate clean and go bankrupt only to start all over again. That is why the common spending moron does not complain about 0bama´s rampant spending; they all think this is a good thing. Get a clue, America.
I wonder what would happen if I called up a credit card company and told them I wanted a no fee card with no limit and that didn´t have a minimum payment and that I could use to purchase anything, legal or not, without any oversight. That is essentially what we are talking about right?
I would call all of these people pigs, but that´s an insult to swine everywhere. Hank, you still worried Guam is going to tip over if they all run over to one side? Jan, your old man out of the joint still? Is that where our next health care bill is coming from? Jim, let´s mess up an election and then brag about it.
If this is representative of who we are as a people, our upcoming demise will have been well earned.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said there is “no question” that al-Qaeda is on the run, even though U.S. outposts remain closed due to terror threats throughout the world. “We do stand by that,” Carney said on Tuesday when asked if he stands by his previous comments that al-Qaeda has been weakened despite the recent threat, according to the pool report. “There´s no question that core al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan has been severely diminished,” he said. “It´s leadership decimated and there´s no question it´s on the run.”
Michael Hayden, the retired Air Force general who ran the National Security Agency and the CIA, revealed on Tuesday that the administration has no plan to defend against an electromagnetic pulse — and isn´t doing much to come up with one. At a conference to discuss threats to the U.S. electrical grid, especially from a cyber attack, Hayden said that there isn´t a solution to handling an EMP attack, which can come from a solar eruption or nuclear bomb. Asked about EMP defense at the conference hosted by the Bipartisan Policy Center,
Texas Rep. Steve Stockman has stepped forward as a vocal advocate in the House for a divisive strategy being pushed by high-profile Senate Republicans to “defund Obamacare” through the upcoming debate on federal spending. While lawmakers left Capitol Hill for the August recess, Mr. Stockman, a Republican, said he’s filed a House resolution that would require any decision to increase the nation’s debt limit or any continuing resolution to fund the government to include language that “constructively repeals” the Affordable Care Act by refusing to appropriate funds for it. Outspoken conservatives in the Senate are pushing the same
Despite a university professor’s gruesome past being revealed, his job is safe and his support among the student body remains firm. Last week a local Texas newspaper reported that Millikin University psychology professor James St. James is actually James Wolcott, the man who, at the age of 15, murdered his mother, father, and teenage sister in 1967. During trial, the young Wolcott admitted to killing his family but pleaded insanity due to mental illness compounded by weeks of huffing airplane glue. He used a .22-caliber rifle to fatally shoot all three family members in the chest and/or head.
Federal prosecutors have filed criminal charges against an alleged militia leader in connection with the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, CBS News has confirmed. Ahmed Khattalah becomes the first person charged in connection with the attack that killed four Americans. Khattalah is a Libyan militia leader who admitted to being in Benghazi last Sept. 11, Global Post reported. Reuters reported last year that officials considered Khattala a suspect in the attacks but U.S. investigators were not sure about the scope of his role. The charges against him are under seal.
RUSH: There is a somewhat shocking report that I came across today at a website run by Doug Ross. It´s called the Conservative Report. Doug Ross maintains here that Valerie Jarrett gave the orders to stand down in Benghazi. Valerie Jarrett, who constitutionally is not in the chain of command and cannot do that. And that´s why this, if true, is a bombshell. Valerie Jarrett nixed the raid on bin Laden three separate times, remember, and the adults had to come in and basically act on the intel that they had as to where bin Laden was.
The federal government has determined that obesity is a national health epidemic, and while obesity-prevention goals were established at the national level in 2012, the question now is how to determine if those goals are being met -- not just nationally, but in your very own neighborhood. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) has just released a report listing 83 ways to "assess the progress made in every community" -- and at the national level -- in the fight against obesity. Some of the benchmarks would require new legislation or executive action to change the way we live and work. (See below)
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus says the party has to “control the referees that we bring into our playground” — the Republican primary debates ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Those referees, he says, shouldn’t be producing documentaries hailing Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee, while they’re also orchestrating debates among Republicans. “I’m not going to sit around and let this happen anymore,” he said. The Republican National Committee has announced it will not allow CNN and NBC to hold primary debates unless the networks pulls their production of films they’re planning about former secretary of
Secretary of State John Kerry announced Friday at the U.S. Embassy in London that the State Department will now recognize in its visa-processing practices same-sex marriages performed in foreign countries—saying that “as long as a marriage has been performed in a jurisdiction that recognizes it so that it is legal, then that marriage is valid under U.S. immigration laws.” The State Department clarified to CNSNews.com on Monday that this principle does not extend to polygamous marriages, which are legal in many Muslim countries. “Today, the State Department, which has always been at the forefront of equality in the federal government,
On Mark Levin’s radio show on Monday, Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio argued that Republicans should use Congress’ budgetary powers to defund President Barack Obama’s unpopular 2010 health care reform law. Rubio, who seemed to have fallen out of favor with Levin after the immigration debate in the Senate earlier this summer, used his appearance on the conservative talk radio program to talk about an idea that has pitted newer Republican legislators against a GOP establishment that insists the defunding scheme can’t work.
In June, first lady Michelle Obama appeared in a hip-hop music video that featured rapper Doug E. Fresh, singer-songwriter Jordin Sparks and TV medical personality Dr. Oz. The catchy song urged kids to "work hard/eat right" and "tell somebody/it´s your body/c´mon." The song was just the first of a 19-track album, the majority of which are hip-hop, to be released by the Partnership for a Healthier America, the anti-obesity nonprofit that launched in conjunction with Michelle Obama´s Let´s Move! anti-obesity campaign, and a New York-based group called Hip Hop Public Health. The full album,
President Obama’s signature legislation, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, has stolen the joy from being a physician or hospital administrator, Dr. Ben Carson said. On Fox News on Monday, Dr. Carson called Obamacare a killjoy — and a financial disaster. “We’ve had three years now to see what’s in it,” he said, “and the level of enthusiasm has not gone up. In fact, it is going down as people are finding out what’s happening.” Dr. Carson also had a message for Americans who don’t want Obamacare: Get moving and get politicos to repeal it.
In 2008 and then again in 2012, after retired four-star General Colin Powell endorsed and then voted for Barack Obama, the former Secretary of State´s sanity was already in question. At least now, after having his email account hacked by high-level security-breacher Guccifer, Colin Powell´s besmirching of the Republican Party´s "shift to the right" and "identity crisis" finally makes sense. It seems that for years the mannerly and always professional Colin Powell has been cyber-comporting with a 46-year-old Romanian European Parliament member, Social Democrat, and past spokesperson for Romanian president Ion Iliescu named Corina Cretu
Conservatives have for years attempted to put our finger upon precisely why Barack Obama strikes us as queer in precisely the way he does. There is an alienness about him, which in the fever swamps is expressed in all that ridiculous Kenyan-Muslim hokum, but his citizen-of-the-world shtick is strictly sophomore year — the great globalist does not even speak a foreign language. Obama has been called many things — radical, socialist — labels that may have him dead to rights at the phylum level but not down at his genus or species. His social circle includes
For nearly a year, we have had no answer to why the administration lied about Benghazi — why it told the world, not to mention the parents of our murdered SEALs at the funeral of their sons, that the cause of that fatal conflagration was an anti-Islamic video no one saw, when the various arms of our executive branch (White House, State and intelligence) already knew, or strongly suspected, it was a terror attack orchestrated by al-Qaeda affiliates. You only have to read the now infamous talking points to know that. That this lie was deeply immoral is obvious.
He thought he was a woman trapped in a man’s body — but it turns out he’s “just another boring straight guy.” ABC News editor Don Ennis strolled into the newsroom in May wearing a little black dress and an auburn wig and announced he was transgender and splitting from his wife. He wanted to be called Dawn. But now he says he suffered from a two-day bout of amnesia that has made him realize he wants to live his life again as Don. “I accused my wife of playing some kind of cruel joke, dressing
WASHINGTON — Former Massachusetts lawmaker Barney Frank revealed that he doesn’t believe in God. During Friday’s appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Frank, who championed the decriminalization of pot while serving in the House of Representatives, admitted to smoking marijuana and being an atheist. “You were in a fairly safe district. You were not one of those congress people who would have to worry about every little thing,” Maher said to Frank. “You could come on this show and sit next to a pot-smoking atheist and it wouldn’t bother you.”
The truth about Benghazi, the Associated Press/James Rosen monitoring, the IRS corruption, the NSA octopus, and Fast and Furious is still not exactly known. Almost a year after the attacks on our Benghazi facilities, we are only now learning details of CIA gun-running, military stand-down orders, aliases of those involved who are still hard to locate, massaged talking points, and the weird jailing of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. We still do not quite know why Eric Holder’s Justice Department went after the Associated Press or Fox News’s James Rosen — given that members of the administration were themselves illegally leaking
Washington--As hundreds of commuters emerged from Amtrak and commuter trains at Union Station on a recent morning, an armed squad of men and women dressed in bulletproof vests made their way through the crowds. The squad was not with the Washington police department or Amtrak’s police force, but was one of the Transportation Security Administration’s Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response squads — VIPR teams for short — assigned to perform random security sweeps to prevent terrorist attacks at transportation hubs across the United States.(Snip)With little fanfare, the agency best known for airport screenings has vastly expanded its reach
In an interview for The Guardian Weekend magazine, actor Matt Damon recently weighed in with his thoughts on how President Barack Obama has handled the scandals that have engulfed his administration since the spring. Damon, a vocal supporter of the president since his 2008 campaign for national office, said that Obama is overcompensating for his lack of military background with his tough response to controversies like how the government is responding to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. The actor said that Obama is allowing himself to “get bullied” and is acting as though is “manhood”
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus threatened to pull the group’s partnership with NBC and CNN for 2016 GOP presidential primary debates if the networks moved ahead with plans to air films on Hillary Clinton. “If they have not agreed to pull this programming prior to the start of the RNC’s Summer Meeting on August 14, I will seek a binding vote stating that the RNC will neither partner with these networks in 2016 primary debates nor sanction primary debates they sponsor,” Preibus said in a statement. In individual letters to CNN President Jeff Zucker and NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt,
The Pentagon has placed its elite cadre of special operations teams on full alert to launch preemptive attacks against suspected al Qaeda targets across the globe, according to reports. The American special forces teams have spent the past week waiting for U.S. military and intelligence officials to confirm the whereabouts of the terror cell plotting to attack U.S. diplomatic outposts in the Mideast and North Africa. Unnamed sources told CNN on Monday that the teams were poised to carry out the preemptive strikes, but declined to comment on where the U.S. forces were located or which potential
Oprah Winfrey on Monday said the killings of Trayvon Martin and Emmett Till are the "same thing." This transpired during an interview with The Grio that aired on NBC´s Today show. OPRAH WINFREY: It´s so easy during this time: Trayvon Martin, Trayvon Martin parallel to Emmett Till, let me just tell you. In my mind, same thing. But you can, you can get stuck in that and not allow yourself to move forward and to see how far we´ve come. Really? Martin and Till are the same thing?
In an exclusive interview for The Grio, NBCUniversal’s African-American news and opinion website, Oprah Winfrey weighed in with her unvarnished thoughts on the killing of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman. Winfrey said that, in her mind, Martin’s murder and that of Emmett Till in 1955 – whose killers were also acquitted – were the “same thing.” However, she added that it is important to keep in mind how much race relations in America have progressed over the last half-century. In a clip of the interview which aired on NBC’s Today, Oprah told The Grio’s Chris
