Former Gov. Sanford, former
Sheriff Nash joining 1st District race

Two former and controversial political figures are now in the 1st Congressional District race, though one is a bigger surprise than the other. As expected, two-term Gov. Mark Sanford will formally join the field today by issuing a press statement confirming that he will go after the seat he held for three terms previously, beginning in the 1990s. The move will be his first ballot test among Republicans and other voters since the final months of his term as governor were overshadowed by his affair with an Argentine woman, now his fiancee. Meanwhile, former Dorchester County Sheriff Ray Nash also

I don´t think discreet would make any impression on him. We should just tell him to his face: Go Away, Mr Sanford. You have no character, we don´t need you.

Lindsey Graham launches
re-election campaign in earnest

ROCK HILL, S.C.--U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham has begun his campaign for re-election in earnest. He´s opened a half-dozen campaign offices across South Carolina in the past week. Graham faces five opponents in the June primary, and it´s shaping up to be the biggest fight of Graham´s Senate career. Still, Graham is confident in winning a third term. He says he has a quiet majority of Republicans in his corner that can outvote the loud voices of opposition. Graham´s campaign has $7.6 million in the bank, while none of his five opponents have more than $260,000.

The UK-based Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC)--which is noted for its support for Hezbollah--yesterday announced the winner of their risible ´Islamophobe of the Year´ prize. The winner was none other than our own Managing Editor, Raheem Kassam! [Snip] The winner of the UK prize was Raheem Kassam, Managing Editor of Breitbart London, beating competition from the UK´s Home Secretary Teresa May, author Douglas Murray, and Muslim counter-extremism campaigner Maajid Nawaz. Teresa May was initally the favourite to take the award. Bizarrely, despite his repeated kowtowing to hostile regimes and Islamists, Barack Obama received the honours for the U.S. prize, beating

The crisis in Ukraine is a reminder of how volatile and dangerous the world can be. Scores of protesters have been shot and killed. Deals have been struck and ignored; the opposition has seized control of the capital Kiev, and secured the release from prison of Yulia Tymoshenko but the president yesterday denounced this as a coup and promised to remain in office. Whatever happens over the next few days, the country remains perilously torn between the Western half that looks towards Europe and the Easterners who look towards Mother Russia. Such troubles are certainly not limited to Ukraine.

It seems some wealthy Atlantans aren´t keen on the prospect of a drag-racing, egg-throwing Canadian teenager for a neighbor. Residents of the well-to-do Buckhead neighborhood are planning to stage a protest outside the Blackland Road property the pop star has his eye on. Given Bieber´s prior egg-throwing antics at his Calabasas residence, which are now under investigation by the Los Angeles County District Attorney´s office, the residents´ wariness is understandable. The event is set for Monday and so far 136 people have committed to the 6am event. [Snip] ´Some can’t even let their children play in the driveway without fear;

Television pictures of revolutions can make them seem like a spectator sport. [Snip] But the implosion of the Ukrainian state in the last 48 hours is a political earthquake. Chaos in Kiev could set off a tsunami that will toss Western Europe from its moorings too. It is a mistake to think we are watching from a safe distance. The end of the Cold War was supposed to bring an era of global peace and understanding so secure that the great nations of the world would be able to beat their arms into ploughshares--or at least into lavish welfare programmes. Remember that? When was the last time you heard the phrase “peace dividend”? That was going to be the material reward for the collapse of the Soviet Union and the glorious realisation that there would be no Third World War, and thus no endless arms race on which countries would have to spend vast proportions of their GDP. 1. This is the wettest winter since records began. No it´s not. As Paul Homewood reveals at his website Not A Lot Of People Know That, it was considerably wetter between November 1929 and January 1930. Yes, this January was wet, but it still only ranks as the sixteenth wettest month since records began in 1766. 2. The Environment Agency has been doing a great job with inadequate resources. I fear the front-page story in The Telegraph--revealing that the worst of the flood damage could have been prevented--didn’t tell the half of it.[Snip] Devastating evidence has now come to light not just that the floods covering 65 square miles of the Somerset Levels could have been prevented, but that they were deliberately engineered by Labour ministers in 2009, regardless of the property and human rights of the thousands of people whose homes and livelihoods would be affected. Furthermore, that wildly misleading Met Office forecast in November led the Environment Agency to take a step that has made the flooding

Afghanistan could become a future terrorist haven when the U.S. withdraws unless a larger and more expensive Afghan security force is planned, a study has warned. The report sketched a scenario in which the Taliban would seek to capitalize on the absence of foreign combat forces and press its campaign to regain political power in Kabul. ´History suggests that the Taliban will use sanctuaries in Pakistan to regenerate their capabilities as military pressure on the movement declines,´ the report said. As a first step, in 2015-16, the Taliban may put additional pressure on Afghan security forces in rural areas, expand

During the 2008 financial crisis, the US Federal Reserve struggled to grasp the scope of the problem and how to adequately respond, transcripts reveal. After a five-year wait, the central bank released the records of a total of 14 meetings from 2008. The transcripts offer the clearest insights yet into the central bank´s thinking during the crisis. "Frankly, I am decidedly confused and very muddled" said former chair Ben Bernanke during a September meeting. Overall, the documents paint a picture of the Fed that shows that it worried perhaps more than it should about inflation risks, and failed to grasp

Conservatives have had it up to here (hand to top of forehead) with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.). Something is seriously wrong with Michelle Obama. Pitching ObamaCare on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Mrs. Obama called young adults "knuckleheads." The first lady openly mocked the 18- to 29-year-olds who catapulted her husband into the White House in 2008 and 2012. Fallon: Because a lot of young people watch our show. Would you like to tell me - why would they...? Because a lot people don´t have the money to spend on this. The University of Notre Dame must provide birth control to employees and students after a federal appeals court ruled Friday, a move the school says will force it to violate its religious beliefs. In a blow to religious colleges and universities across the country, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago denied Notre Dame´s request for an injunction to the ObamaCare birth control mandate that requires the school to provide coverage for contraception. The injunction would have given Notre Dame a temporary reprieve from the birth control mandate, as the Roman Catholic school challenges the rule in court.

WASHINGTON — President Obama plans to announce on Tuesday the opening of two new manufacturing institutes in the Chicago and Detroit areas as part of a larger plan to use public-private partnerships to advance his agenda despite opposition from Republicans in Congress. The real mystery behind the FCC´s now abandoned "study" to police American newsrooms is why the mainstream media refused to raise holy hell over it. While Obama´s lapdogs refused to bark, it was conservative media who fought for newsroom independence and got the FCC to finally back down. Other than the media´s natural obedience to Obama, the fact that the fingerprints of left-wing billionaire George Soros have been found on the FCC study might also help to explain the media´s silence.
