California´s Demographic Dilemma:
Where Are The Kids?

Investor´s Business Daily, by Staff

Original Article

Demographics: Just as baby boomers are reaching retirement or fleeing the state, a dearth of children threatens to turn the Golden State into the golden years state with potentially dire economic consequences.California was once a leader where the "next big thing" would happen and then migrate to the rest of the country. With an economy among the world´s largest if it were a separate country, it in a sense still is, having already gone over its own fiscal cliff, beset by low growth, high taxes and regulations, an exodus of business and population

School enrollment is down, yet the voters just passed a huge tax hike (they don´t think it´s huge, so they´ll have a nice surprise) with Prop 30 to send even more funds to the schools.

Class sizes continue to be large. My son´s 2nd grade class has 25 kids in it. We´re lucky, we´re in an excellent school district, I´m sure it´s worse in places like LA and Oakland.

They are hiring administrators at a record clip and sticking illegals into the system to bump up the numbers. It´s a huge scam. Yet California is home to rabid, religious Democrats and they will never, ever question what these "leaders" tell them. Never. The state is a never ending train wreck and I really don´t see how it´s ever going to be fixed.

#8, you think a class of 25 kids is large? No wonder school taxes are so outrageous. I don´t think my kids ever set foot in a class that small, and I certainly didn´t, back in the olden days.

Pretty clever of Brown putting a tax increase on a ballot measure.Obviously, there´s more than enough non taxpaying, benefit grabbers in the state to win on this.

The left also wants to project that Brown´s tax increases solved all their fiscal problems and that should be a trendsetter across the country.

Since we stole Cal. from the Mexicans, the least we can do is give them a place to live.Who cares if their high school drop out rate is around 50%?Of course if you´re lucky enough to cash in ona dream act you can cruise your way through college for 8-10 years.

We didn´t steal California from the Mexicans. But unfortunately, the Mexicans (not American citizens of Mexican descent, but the illegals) are stealing all the taxpayer money and jobs. They get government checks (easier than citizens do and more money too!) AND work multiple jobs. Sometimes they work under the table but a lot don´t have to. They are still allowed to work if they can get a certain card (and they don´t even have to be here legally). There are also a lot of employers now who only hire hispanics--no whites allowed. They are companies owned by other hispanics that only give jobs to their own.

The only reason teachers and their unions keep pushing for smaller class sizes is so that they have to add more teachers who in turn have to pay dues to a union.

25 is a small class size. We had 30-35 when I was in school. We had good teachers and got a good education, not an indoctrination.

Given the crush of traffic on Healthcare.gov in late March, many more people could have signed up over those last three days than were captured by these numbers. On the other hand, the White House was claiming six million sign-ups as of March 27. There’s no way to reconcile that with RAND’s data. One of them is wrong. Maybe both, in fact. How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

My first published column was in a local paper opposing the Equal Rights Amendment for the same reasons that Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative lawyer, campaigned on. As ambiguously written, the ERA, would eliminate the men-only draft requirement, repeal protective laws like sexual assault and eliminate the tendency for mothers to obtain custody over their children in divorce cases. Ironically, one of the arguments that helped sink the amendment from ratification was the fear that single-sex bathrooms would no longer be permitted. In addition, opponents of the amendment also warned that it would lead to abortion on demand and same-sex marriages.
