Woman drives 900 miles out
of her way after GPS error

Yahoo! News, by Mike Krumboltz

Original Article

Posted By:NorthernDog, 1/15/2013 6:16:54 PM

Put too much faith in technology and you may wind up in Croatia. A 67-year-old woman from Belgium learned that the hard way after she followed (faulty) directions from her GPS device. The woman only wanted to go about 90 miles from her hometown of Hainault Erquelinnes, Belgium, to pick up a friend at the Brussels train station. Her GPS device sent her about 900 miles to the south before (during the second day of driving) she realized that something was amiss. It´s unclear if she entered the address incorrectly or if the GPS was faulty.

Who would drive 900 miles the wrong way?

I´m a map guy. Everyone else in the office uses GPS. My last experience with GPS was sitting in the back of an extended pickup for an additional half hour with my knees in my chin while ´Miss Kitty´ on the box took us around and around the Eisenhower in Chicago in a six block radius. New York - Campaigners have welcomed as a "huge breakthrough" the Obama administration´s decision to give up its fight to limit the sale of a morning-after pill. Plan B will soon become available to women and girls of all ages without a prescription, following a decade-long battle that pitted successive White House administrations and the Food and Drug Administration against reproductive-rights campaigners, physicians and women´s groups seeking to make emergency contraception universally available. Such groups have long argued that since morning-after pills such as Plan B One Step are time-sensitive and safe, they should be made as readily available

SANFORD, Florida - The polarizing debate that followed the killing of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in Florida last year means it could take up to two weeks to pick the six jurors needed to try the case. Prosecution and defense lawyers in the trial in Florida´s Seminole County are entitled to subject potential jurors from a pool of hundreds to detailed questioning about their knowledge of the case and whether they have formed opinions about it. The attorneys completed questioning of just four prospective jurors in a preliminary round

New York City´s health department released a report Monday showing that diabetes-related deaths in the five boroughs reached a record high of 5,695 in 2011. The findings come roughly three months after Mayor Michael Bloomberg´s administration suffered a setback to its efforts to ban the sale of sugary sodas bigger than 16 ounces in movie theaters and restaurants. The mayor´s administration argued that the restrictions would help reduce obesity and other health issues, but the proposal faced a fierce blowback from restaurant owners and exhibitors who accused Bloomberg of operating a "nanny state" and jeopardizing their businesses.

But on Thursday, the Ohio Department of Insurance announced that, based on the rates submitted by insurers to date, the average individual-market health insurance premium in 2014 will come in around $420, “representing an increase of 88 percent” relative to 2013. “We have warned of these increases,” said Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor in a statement. “Consumers will have fewer choices and pay much higher premiums for their health insurance starting in 2014.”
