Trenton — A city man was shot in the pelvis during a scuffle with two armed robbers last night, police said. The 38-year-old victim was walking behind the 600 block of Liberty Street just after 9:30 p.m. when the two men approached him, Lt. Steve Varn said today. He refused to hand over his belongings and began to fight with the suspects. “The struggle ensued. During that time the suspect was shot,” Varn said. The attackers fled, leaving the wounded man behind. He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center and was in stable condition, police said.

The ´suspect´ was shot? So refusing to turn over your belongings to muggers makes you a ´suspect?´

#3, I caught that as well. However, when I went to the article and read the whole thing, I think the officer merely mispoke, rather than intending to say that the victim was a suspect in anything (although I hope someone keeps an eye on this and pays attention if it turns out the guy is a "suspect" because he had a gun to defend himself).

Close call.

Getting shot in the "pelvis" is probably not as bad as getting shot...
in that other place down there that starts with "p-e" and ends in "i-s"...

If ya know what I mean.
And I think ya do.

The culture of corruption at the Newark Watershed Conservation and Development Corp. — alleged last week in a scathing 45-page report by the state comptroller — was apparently no secret to some in Newark’s political world. When queried by state investigators about payouts he received from the agency, one contractor said he was working on a local political campaign in 2008 and recalled the “buzz’ that had been circulating about NWCDC handing out contracts,” the report states. The contractor, Newark resident Edward McRae, discovered the buzz was no exaggeration. The report says McRae’s firm received nearly $390,000 in landscaping contracts from the

Novi Petrivtsi, Ukraine — The opulent residence of President Viktor Yanukovych has always been a closely guarded secret — and a symbol of the alleged corruption at Ukraine’s highest levels. On Saturday, after he fled the capital and its gates were thrown open, thousands streamed into the compound to get a first-hand look. Inside the walled compound known as Mezhyhirya, posh mansions stood amid manicured lawns. There were parks dotted with statues, ponds with fountains and wild ducks, a tennis court, a golf course and a colonnaded pavilion. As throngs of ordinary Ukrainians got their first look at Yanukovych’s luxurious estate, many

At least three-quarters of the New Jerseyans who have selected health insurance through the federal marketplace website have followed through by paying their first month’s premium, according to the three companies selling the policies. The state’s rate of paying customers is in line with figures reported across the nation. The figures are seen by some as an important barometer of success in the opening months of coverage. Critics of the Affordable Care Act have noted that with each enrollment update, federal officials have not revealed how many of the enrollees took the next step in purchasing a policy.

The enduring ban on transgender individuals serving in the US military has earned America a low ranking in the first global league table of LGBT inclusion in the armed forces. The US is placed at number 40 in the table of 103 countries’ armed forces as measured by their inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender service members. That puts it behind the militaries of countries such as Chile, Georgia and even America’s bête noire, Cuba. The US armed forces in September 2011 repealed the controversial policy of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, which forced gay service members to hide their sexuality.

The University of Notre Dame must provide birth control to employees and students after a federal appeals court ruled Friday, a move the school says will force it to violate its religious beliefs. In a blow to religious colleges and universities across the country, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago denied Notre Dame´s request for an injunction to the ObamaCare birth control mandate that requires the school to provide coverage for contraception. The injunction would have given Notre Dame a temporary reprieve from the birth control mandate, as the Roman Catholic school challenges the rule in court.

While Obama´s lapdogs refused to bark, it was conservative media who fought for newsroom independence and got the FCC to finally back down.
