White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced this afternoon that President Obama will unveil a “concrete package” of gun control proposals including assault weapons bans, high capacity ammunition magazine bans, and closing loopholes on background checks. Carney said that the president will be joined by Vice President Joe Biden as well as children who wrote to the president after the Newtown shootings. “They will be joined by children around the country expressing their concerns about gun violence and school safety, along with their parents,” Carney confirmed. President Obama specifically mentioned children during his
Comments: These people are just beyond anything I have ever seen in my lifetime. 0bama and his regime have taken political hypocrisy and shamelessness to a level never seen before. The only thing missing from this charade is the parents of those who lost children at Sandy Hook. Don´t think they wouldn´t parade them around if they could. In the meantime, they are destroying the freedoms of every American in this country. Some of them are too stupid to know it.
How about bring in rfk´s children and grandchildren. Remember he was killed with .22 short revolver. Are those little weapons to be banned too? How about James and Sarah Brady? I´m sure they are available as props.
Will all these children and their parents be flown in to DC aboard the fleet of government Gulfstream jets? Will they be quartered at DC hotels? If so, it will be a very expensive propaganda opportunity.
Another Alinsky tactic. The left has been doing this for years. Hillary tried the same thing with her healthcare debacle, I recall a few of the kid´s and their parent´s were exposed as frauds. 0bama has used props throughout his career/campaign. He never gets called on it by the MSM. The left is morally bankrupt, manipulative and condescending. He only plays to the dummies.
Straight out of the Soviet Union, Communist China, North Korea, and Cuba propaganda playbook to use children as props.
Anyone out there care to argue that Obama and his fellow democrats aren´t hard core communists whose goal is impose a totalitarian rule over this country?
Obama seems bent on fomenting revolt and a second Civil War. Where are the Republicans in Congress. As some point they have to stand up, regardless of the media consequences, and act like true patroiots, whatever the cost.
Another creepy muslim tactic of attacking while surrounding yourself with children for human shields. I can´t wait to see this dictator tyrant flushed down the sewer of history. Probably good business to start selling "joke"ha ha targets with the top tyrants faces on them. Just for fun. What? Can´t talk a joke? FU!
The GOP ought to strap on a pair and use the same tactic for the millions and millions of fatherless children exposed to poverty due to the left´s institutionalization of the welfare state and thousands of children murdered by urban street gangs which are the result of those same policies. America needs a leader to fight this scum.
There is nothing wrong with having children on the stage. Every president or candidate in the television age has had proponents or beneficiaries of proposed legislation on the stage.
He is not calling for a total gun ban, in spite of the screams of some gun advocates. He has the right to ask for legislation regarding assault weapons and high capacity magazines. He may or may not have the votes to get it, but he absolutely has the right to ask Congress for such legislation.
As for closing loopholes on background checks, why would anyone oppose that? It never made any sense that you had to pass a background check to purchase a weapon from seller A, but you didn´t have to pass one to purchase same weapon from seller B. Or, you could lie on your background check application and no one would pay any attention (a loophole that has put guns into the hands of felons many a time).
The Second Amendment, in its reference to a well-ordered militia, clearly was not intending to promote unlimited guns for known criminals or psychotic individuals. Nothing well-ordered there.
With a population of 360 million people, the number of nuts will grow. Obama has NO right to punish the many for a few. Obama has no right to violate the Constitution. Keep and bear arms is pretty clear to me. At the time those words were written, citizens had the same weapons as the regular army. Citizens should be armed to protect against a tyrannical gov´t..water pistols wouldn´t work.
My sister has a good idea. She says the NRA should use props. Get some people to gather on stage at a press conference who defended themselves with firearms against home invaders. That woman from GA and her twin 9 year-olds for example.
Why would anyone oppose universal background checks? When the intent is not ´background checks´ but to be able to locate every single gun in the U.S. If they know exactly who has what, it is much easier to confiscate them. That´s the real intent of the government. To get the background check, you have to tell them the buyer´s name, address, SSN, type of gun & serial number. You think all of that is ´forgotten´ by the checker? If so, you live in a very simple universe.
How about someone in the WH Press Pool pose this question: "Mr. President, between 2006 and 2012, the average number killed resulting from gun violence was 114 children. Would you like to comment on the over one million children who were killed last year as a result of abortions?" Any WH Press reporter who asks that question will never report on the WH again, but that individual will forever be remembered for standing up to this absolute empty suit, lying poor excuse for a human being who thinks he´s the government who rules all, including peoples´ religious beliefs.
I can´t speak for Olivia Harrison, George´s wife but I wonder if she wished her and George had a gun when they were broken into in England. In the early 90´s a crazed guy with a knife entered George´s home and stabbed him repeatedly as Olivia hit the intruder with whatever she could get her hands on. By law if the did have a gun and shot the guy, they would be the ones in trouble. That´s where we´re headed.
Apparently 0bama´s warped arguments against the Constitution & Bill of Rights isn´t winning the debate regarding the Second Amendment nor any of the rest of Liberty´s Constitutional principles. Whenever the statist dem pols can´t flim/flan the American people, they ALWAYS resort to using children as their tools of choice! Aided & abetted by the dems´ lsm, 0bama´s shameless use of children as his political pawns continues. ...How many times can he get away with this redundant con? How dispicable.
What kind of U.S. President would even think of infringing against any American´s inherent Constitutional Rights? ..And use theatrical staging of innocent children to do it?!!

Maybe the RNC should hold their own press conference surrounded by Holocaust survivors and other victims of dictators.
But we all know they will do nothing to fight back.
#17 please provide the exact law where you found your "right to limit weapons to the citizenry.
Every time I see obama , I get the picture in my mind he is morphing into Hitler. He´s controlling most of the media, finance, health industries, so I don´t see why he would have any problem using children for his own purpose.
The GOP should respond with an equal number of children with sad faces surrounding them as the evil democrats slowly steal their constitutional right to own a gun and protect their life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
Will he announce that Sidwell Friends School will fire their 11 armed guards? Maybe he should disarm the Secret Service, too. Will he explain why he allowed thousands of weapons to be spread all over Mexico? Obama is a big gunrunner himself.
Parents who allow their children to be used as political show ponies are unfit for the role. If your ideas require props then they are not strong ideas to begin with.
#17 provides some levity in the mischaracterization of the NRA and gun owners´ positions as well as a misstatement of what the president and his star chamber intend. Hint: legislation i.e. proper law-making isn´t a part of it.
These background check loopholes simply don´t exist but they seem to be a bottomless honey trap for people who want to sound intelligent about the subject.
#17, if you are going to be that dense about the Second Amendment´s purpose and context, do yourself a favor and quit while you´re behind.
It´s not complicated. The Bill of Rights is devoted to protecting the individual from government. Only the gullible believe that the Framers would write down the First Amendment, veer off towards conscription for national defense in the Second, then return to individual rights for the rest of the document. No, the Second is about resistance against tyranny just as the Fifth, Fourth and others are. Parsing its language is a diversionary tactic, nothing more.
Re #4...20 years ago, when I was most active in pro-life....we often said your very words....´they can´t do that, can they´....referencing jail sentences on RICO charges, etc etc (during Bill Clinton´s regime)....But they could....and they did....and years of legislative hard work was dissolved almost overnight! 20 years ago.................................next time they will come for you, me.....and not just helpless unborn babies.
Back ground checks sounds good on the face of it .. Think that should be used also on voters and candidates (president/ congress/ courts) for political office ... would stop voter fraud and Obozo wouldnt be the usurper pResident
Obama has nothing but pure hatred for this country. I believe that he is a Muslim and is deliberately doing everything he can to destroy it and with help and cover from the msm, his Palace Guards, is succeeding. Anyone who speaks out against him is destroyed. The GOP has been neutered. I honestly don´t see how he can be stopped. To quote Henri the cat, I´m surrounded by morons.
Those children didn´t write letters of concern. Their parents dictated letters and made their kids copy and mail them. Kids don´t pay attention to current events, let alone politics. The whole dog and pony show is a fraud. No offense to dogs and ponies.
#17 is wrong of course. The 2nd ammendment is there to defend against tyranny. It´s purpose is to intimidate government. Accodding to James Madison the "Militia" mentioned in the 2nd ammendment is the "people" as a whole. The 2nd amendment is there to defend all the other ammendments and the constitution itself. Once Barry Soetoro was allowed to get away with his ineligibility the socialists knew they could do anything they want. a.k.a. tyranny. I hope and pray it doesn´t happen but we could very well be headed for civil war.
I know this sounds horrible but i still have my doubts on Sandy Hook. It has so many gaps and holes in the story. Actors hired out of CO. People that recognize a kid in the picture and say she is from so and so and was killed in another accident. The list goes on and on.
OCALA, Fla. — Angela Corey, the special prosecutor in George Zimmerman’s murder trial, is being sued by a former employee she fired after he testified against her handling of evidence in the case. Corey fired Ben Kruidbos, her office’s information technology director, after his June 6 pre-trial testimony in which he revealed information concealed from Zimmerman’s defense team by the prosecution. His termination letter included allegations of serious workplace misconduct such as violating public records laws. However, the allegations conflict with the kudos Corey’s office gave Kruidbos on May 16, when he received a pay raise for “meritorious service.”
WASHINGTON — The 2016 presidential marathon began this week when Hillary Clinton had a very visible, heavily promoted White House lunch with President Obama, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie threw a political punch at one of his potential rivals for the Republican nomination. If there were any doubts that the former secretary of state plans to run for president, they were put to rest when she and Obama had lunch on the patio outside the Oval Office on Monday. The White House photographer, Chuck Kennedy, took pictures of the tete-a-tete that were
By granting a yearly and renewable asylum to Edward Snowden, Vladimir Putin has challenged President Barack Obama. He has made it clear that the famous “reset” button with Russia, signed onto and endorsed by Hillary Clinton when she was secretary of State, meant only that the United States would allow Russia to get away with what it wanted in international affairs as long as Putin’s authority was not challenged. Russia would continue to aid its Syrian ally, no matter what “red lines” were crossed, and all the United States would do is urge Russia to act differently.
News broke late last evening about the debate playing out over Obamacare and whether members of Congress and their staffs will get special treatment. Politico reported: Lawmakers and staff can breathe easy — their health care tab is not going to soar next year. The Office of Personnel Management, under heavy pressure from Capitol Hill, will issue a ruling that says the government can continue to make a contribution to the health care premiums of members of Congress and their aides, according to several Hill sources. A White House official confirmed the deal and said the proposed regulations will
Free expression philosophers have long asserted that a society’s overall freedom hinges on the rights of citizens to speak and publish freely. That idea helped spark the American Revolution and has permeated the nation’s political climate for more than 200 years. A new study by the Newseum Institute’s First Amendment Center, however, suggests that a growing number of Americans fail to appreciate the importance of free expression principles. A startling 34 percent of Americans surveyed agreed with the statement, “The First Amendment goes too far in the rights it guarantees.”
Remember Howard Beale, the deranged anchorman from Network? During one broadcast he tells the viewers to turn off their televisions, go to the window, and yell, “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!” In one of the iconic scenes from American movies, thousands of New Yorkers stick their heads out into the rain and scream their frustration over a corrupt political culture of lies, incompetence, and hypocrisy. We need that moment today in America, but we’ve let too many opportunities pass by. On every front our political leaders demonstrate a shameless disregard for
"They didn’t care about how they looked. It was just fierce indifference to human life that caused America to say enough is enough. ‘I don’t want to see it and I am not a part of it.’ What the hell! If you have to bomb little kids and send dogs out against human beings, give me a break." But Rangel had praise for a few Republicans. He mentioned New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, citing Christie´s criticism of House Republicans for delaying a vote on federal relief aid for states hit by Hurricane
The House voted Friday to prevent the IRS from enforcing any aspect of ObamaCare, a bill meant to exact revenge against an agency that Republicans say is incapable of neutral enforcement of the law. Members approved the Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care Act in a 232-185 vote. Four Democrats supported the bill along with every Republican. The vote capped off several days of work in the House on bills aimed at reining in government regulation and government overreach. House Democrats cast the votes as merely for show, given opposition from the White House and the Senate
The Los Angeles and Chicago metropolitan areas had the most gun murders among the nation’s fifty most-populous metropolitan areas in 2009 and 2010 (the latest years for which date is available), according to a report released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. During those two years, 1,141 people were gunned to death in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and 1,139 were gunned to death in the Chicago metropolitan area. The New York metropolitan area ranked third with 1,101 gun homicides. The Los Angeles, Chicago and New York metropolitan areas also ranked one,
Terrorist-supporting conservative uberhawk Rep. Peter King (R-New York), sounding very much like a man feeling left out of the Chris Christie vs. Rand Paul story, played the McCainesque America-Firster card against Paul Wednesday on CNN: [W]hat this reminds me of, someone like Senator Paul and others in that isolationist wing -- now, the Republicans had this debate back in the 1930s when you had the isolationists and the Charles Lindberghs that said we should appease Hitler. And the Democrats had it in the
EACH of us took turns over the past 43 years running the Environmental Protection Agency. We served Republican presidents, but we have a message that transcends political affiliation: the United States must move now on substantive steps to curb climate change, at home and internationally. There is no longer any credible scientific debate about the basic facts: our world continues to warm, with the last decade the hottest in modern records, and the deep ocean warming faster than the earth’s atmosphere. Sea level is rising. Arctic Sea ice is melting years faster than projected.
Let’s stipulate a fact: Most men cannot complete US Marine Corps combat training. Let’s stipulate another fact: Washing out trainees who cannot complete the training is one of the purposes of the training. Keep those who can complete it, weed out those who can’t. Let’s stipulate another fact: Washing out trainees who cannot complete the training saves lives by eliminating weak links in combat units. “Weak,” in the context of military combat training, encompasses physical and mental. Most people simply are not suited to military combat, male or female. The Pentagon is trying to integrate
Colin Powell has admitted to exchanging ´very personal´ emails with a Romanian diplomat but denies having an affair with the much younger woman after a hacker threatened to release their intimate messages. The 76-year-old retired general told the Smoking Gun that he met Corina Cretu, 45, roughly 10 years ago when she was working as an assistant to the president of Romania. She is now a member of the European Parliament. ´After I left the Department of State in January 2005 we stayed in touch via email,´ he told TSG.
CNN has uncovered exclusive new information about what is allegedly happening at the CIA, in the wake of the deadly Benghazi terror attack. Four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the assault by armed militants last September 11 in eastern Libya. Sources now tell CNN dozens of people working for the CIA were on the ground that night, and that the agency is going to great lengths to make sure whatever it was doing, remains a secret. CNN has learned the CIA is involved in what one source calls an unprecedented attempt to keep the spy
The United States will temporarily shut down its embassies and consulates around the world Sunday, including those in Iraq, Afghanistan and Egypt, as a precautionary measure, the State Department said Thursday. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf did not say how long the international installations would stay closed -- only that the decision was taken “out of an abundance of caution and care for our employees and others who may be visiting.” Sunday is a normal workday in many Arab and Middle Eastern countries. Embassies in Europe and Latin America would be shuttered that day anyway.
American scientists claim the planet is undergoing one of the largest changes in climate in the past 65 million years. Climatologists at Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment have warned the likely rate of change over the next century will be at least 10 times quicker than any climate shift since the dinosaurs became extinct. If the trend continues at its current rapid pace, it will place significant stress on terrestrial ecosystems around the world, and many species will need to make behavioral, evolutionary or geographic adaptations to survive, they said.
About 400 area retail and fast-food workers, together with colleagues nationally, participated in a strike Thursday to demand raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. “If not $15, then something. I mean give us something. I work 36 hours a week and barely make enough to pay my rent, gas bill, light bill. It gets to the point where I barely have enough for lunch sometimes,” said Angel Richardson, 21, who works at McDonald’s. “I’m five months pregnant, what am I going to do in four months? I hope something changes.” The minimum wage is $7.25 nationally and $8.25
[Video] Ouch. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie turned down an offer by Sen. Rand Paul to join him for a beer and bury the hatchet in their ongoing -- and very public -- feud. "I´m running for re-election in New Jersey. I don´t really have time for that at the moment," Christie said in an interview on a local radio station. The New Jersey governor said if he finds himself in Washington, "I´ll certainly look him up." But he added: "I don´t suspect I´ll be there anytime soon. I´ve got work to do here."
Executive Director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns Mark Glaze gave some ambiguous and potentially dangerous self defense advice Friday on “Hardball.” Glaze, speaking in opposition to “Stand Your Ground” laws, said in a circumstance where someone “comes at you” with an axe handle one should attempt to either “talk,” “fight with your fists,” “run away,” or “deescalate the situation,” but not shoot the attacker: MARK GLAZE: Very often somebody will come at you. They might want to have a fistfight. They might come at you with an ax handle. CHRIS MATTHEWS: Would you consider the guy with the ax handle armed or not?
The administration has popped the bubble of hope some small business had that switching to part-time staff would let them escape the high costs of Obamacare. The Small Business Administration on Thursday created a website to explain to businesses that the government will simply tally up the number of part-time employees firms have to determine if enough hours have been worked to essentially create a "full-time equivalent." Some smaller businesses had thought that if they could get under the 50 full-time employee cap that activates Obamacare by cutting full-time workers and hiring more part-time workers they would escape
Government workers in the city of Seattle have been advised that the terms "citizen" and "brown bag" are potentially offensive and may no longer be used in official documents and discussions. KOMO-TV reports that the city´s Office of Civil Rights instructed city workers in a recent internal memo to avoid using the words because some may find them offensive. "Luckily, we´ve got options," Elliott Bronstein of the Office for Civil Rights wrote in the memo obtained by the station. "For ´citizens,´ how about ´residents?´"
Citing a potential al Qaeda attack, the State Department on Friday issued a worldwide travel alert and warned American citizens that the terrorist group may be plotting a strike in the Middle East, North Africa or elsewhere. “Current information suggests that al Qaeda and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond, and that they may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August,” reads a portion of the alert, which lasts until the end of the month.
Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) suggested on Friday morning that the tea party movement is comprised of the same types of people who fought against the civil rights movement during the 1960s. Speaking with the Daily Beast, Rangel said of the movement: “It is the same group we faced in the South with those white crackers and the dogs and the police. They didn’t care about how they looked. He added that the tea party movement can be defeated similar to how the civil rights movement eradicated Jim Crow mentality: “It was just fierce indifference to human life that caused
The nation´s most active death penalty state is running out of its execution drug. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice said Thursday that its remaining supply of phenobarbital expires in September and that no alternatives have been found. It wasn´t immediately clear whether two executions scheduled for next month would be delayed. The state has already executed 11 death-row inmates this year, and at least seven more have execution dates in coming months. "We will be unable to use our current supply of phenobarbital after it expires," agency spokesman Jason Clark said. "We are exploring all options at this time."
