MEXICO CITY — More than 54,000 Mexicans have signed a petition calling on the United States to take further steps to combat weapons trafficking. Mexico says the majority of guns used by the country´s violent drug cartels are smuggled over the border from the United States. Mexico´s best-known anti-violence activist and a prominent intellectual presented the petition at the U.S. embassy Monday. Activist Javier Sicilia said "The United States is partly responsible for our humanitarian tragedy." About 70,000 people have died in Mexico in drug violence since 2006, according to the written copy of a speech

More gun control means more accessible private property for illegals to safely transit. No more pesky ranchers holding illegals at gunpoint till the catch and release squad shows up.

And we care about 47% of mexicans wanting gun control in America why?

People along the border are armed and the wetback population comes through kill animals on ranches, steals food and otherwise leave a blight behind them. Take away everyones guns and these people will be moving into the ranch houses along the way and demanding someone cook for them. I am not sure how to make it clear how to say it in spanish so allow me to communicate it in English.....NO! Via te.

Fine. Let´s build a fortified fence the length of the border, with guards armed with assault rifles. And then a moat with alligators would be a nice touch.

By the way, I feel the same way about Mexico today as I felt about Vietnam in 1970.

Why not employ powerful armaments/explosives/nukes to create a band of land that is uninhabitable? We have the technology. The population can be warned ahead of time.

But no...and so the guerrilla activity proceeds...

This takes the cake as most hypocritical story of day. Talk about a serious lack of understanding of cause and effect: The Mexies say our drug habit gets them killed and OUR guns are the root of the problem? Noooo; if the Mexies weren´t selling drugs, the problems/deaths would not happen. That is the root of the problem.

Well those 54,000 Mexicans should elect leaders who will go out and arrest all the Mexicans who are smuggling guns into Mexico.

Probably 540,000 Mexicans would sign a petition today advocating another amnesty for Mexican illegal aliens in the USA, but that does not mean Congress will also that to happen.

Federal health officials dropped regulations late Friday outlining how they plan to help insurance companies stuck with unanticipated costs due to ObamaCare´s botched rollout. In a 279-page document, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) detailed adjustments to the healthcare law´s "risk corridors" program, a means for shifting money from insurers who fare better under the new system to those who fare worse. Risk corridors have been decried by conservatives as a bailout that could leave taxpayers on the hook for billions of dollars. The administration said Friday that it will implement the program in a budget

The U.S. government on Friday announced it is taking steps to relinquish control over the back end of the Internet. The Department of Commerce announced it is beginning a process to transfer control over the technical system that operates the Internet’s domain name system, which ensures that Internet users can get to the websites they’re looking for. Currently, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration — an agency with Commerce — oversees that technical system, named the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). Historically, it has contracted the operation of IANA out to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Number (ICANN) on a biennial

Everyone in politics knows that big GOP donors, many of whom are wealthy businessmen, are, broadly speaking, one of the key constituencies for a major amnesty bill. But aside from the money trail, their interactions with lawmakers, which often occur at intimate closed-door fundraisers, can be hard to track. The only reason to think President Obama would work with a Republican congressional majority is that he genuinely believes a policy is a good idea or thinks public opinion requires a compromise necessary to protect his legacy and keep the White House in Democratic hands. In other words, Republicans have reason to hope, but they shouldn’t expect too much change—at least not until 2017. McConnell’s assessment of what Republicans can accomplish the next two years will strike his fans as Madisonian realism, but it will come across as establishmentarian weakness to his detractors who are now waging a bitter primary

By now it’s settled on most people, including Democrats, that the loss of Alex Sink to David Jolly in Florida’s 13th Congressional District was, in the words of the New York Times, “devastating” to Democrats. It’s a district Ms. Sink carried in her unsuccessful race for governor against Rick Scott, a district that Barack Obama carried in his two elections, and a district that demographically now favors Democrats. In addition, Ms. Sink raised more money and ran a better campaign than Jolly. Even Bill Clinton lent his efforts to her campaign. And yet she lost. What should particularly alarm Democrats is

The three-judge panel — consisting of Carter and Clinton appointees — ruled in favor of the legislators’ standing. This decision should embolden members of Congress who correctly believe that President Obama has encroached upon Congress’ constitutional authority. Indeed, Congress should do no less in defending its authority than the five Colorado state legislators. A top Republican campaigning for immigration reform is warning that America needs at least 1 million more immigrants every year just for basic farming and construction jobs, not ban like some in the party are advocating. Carlos Gutierrez, Commerce secretary under former President George W. Bush, said that without more immigrants, businesses won´t be able to grow because there aren´t enough workers available. And helping them could boost the Republican Party, added the former Kellogg Co. executive.
