The plot to attack Hagel´s critics
American Thinker, by Thomas Lifson

Original Article

Posted By:magnante, 1/15/2013 10:13:23 AM

A window on the soul of the left has opened with the release of excerpts from an email chain revealing a coordinated effort to discredit critics of the Hagel nomination. The Daily Caller obtained a copy of the email chain containing comments by prominent leftists on how to advance the confirmation chances, not by advocating Hagel himself, but by attacking and discrediting his opponents. The people involved in this covert joint effort are some heavyweights. At the center is David Fenton, the veteran left wing media-manipulating mastermind

I believe Priest is married to William Goodfellow--*just* as bad as Fenton. It´s a many-headed beast.

Big labor is threatening to strangle the liberal San Francisco Bay Area in order to protect the principle that government workers should be insulated from the effects of rising medical costs and enjoy generous pensions to which they contribute nothing. Led by the ultra-leftist SEIU, the biggest union representing workers at BART and a progressive movement powerhouse, big labor orchestrated the Bay Area organized left to march demonstrate at BART headquarters in Oakland Thursday night. (snip) about 400 BART workers and their supporters, including actor Danny Glover, chanted for union solidarity

A few days prior to the 2012 presidential election, in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie gave Obama a long, drawn-out hug and silently nodded his head in agreement to every word spoken by the always-opportunistic president.(snip)lately the Garden State governor has been the pure embodiment of Alinsky rule #12, which says, "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." What´s making the whole thing so suspicious is Governor Christie´s verbal rancor is mostly being directed toward a specific political adversary of the president, the outspoken Tea Party favorite, Rand Paul

Is the grievance industry trying to create racial Shroud of Turin? The Smithsonian wants to display the hoodie worn by Tayvon Martin the night he was shot by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman. Really, is this what we need now? A modern-day abomination: a Turin Shroud for race-mongerers? Will this become a place of pilgrimage for people looking for reasons to hate?

Shortly after the Sandy Hook one Elementary School massacre in December 2012, I took to these pages to gently chide the NRA´s Wayne LaPierre for his proposal to install an armed policeman in every school. In March 2013 I participated in a CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) class. In May I received my CCW permit. On that day this semi-retired septuagenarian (I, myself) became a citizen carrier. Informed consent is a big deal in health care. And it should be. (snip) Once a woman says she wants an abortion, medical standards and norms change. If the process of getting informed consent involves making the unknown, known, the process in the abortion industry is all about unknowing. When I regrettably and wrongly had an abortion many years ago, no one at Planned Parenthood explained anything to me -- and I mean nothing -- about my baby´s development. No one even showed me a picture of a 3-month old baby in the womb.

San Diego mayor and veteran Congressman Bob Filner is a serial molester of women who enjoyed immunity from exposure by his friends in the media who "pretty much knew" about his abuses but chose to ignore them as a non-story. We know this because a brave member of the San Diego media crowd has admitted it.(snip) Scorn is the appropriate response. The San Diego media deserves a big helping of humiliation over covering this up. There is no profession more conscious of prestige than the media. Just look at all the awards they give each other.

As a black conservative tea party activist, I am extremely excited about Bill O´Reilly´s recent series of commentaries and TV shows addressing the hypocrisy and exploitation by the American race industry that has and continues to devastate the black community. O´Reilly boldly called out all of the usual suspects: Sharpton, Jackson, the Congressional Black Caucus and Obama. Eric Holder and others on the left have been whining and arrogantly scolding us saying that we need an honest discussion about race in America.

How is the U.S. like Sweden? In its low murder rate. That is, if you include in the statistics only non-blacks in the U.S. legally.(snip)In round numbers, there are about 250 million non-blacks in the U.S. legally. So their murder rate is about 1.0 per 100,000, or the same as Sweden´s. A murder rate of 1.0 is in the same league as the Europeans who like to call us gun-crazy cowboys. But it´s not the "cowboys" who are doing the killing. (In fact, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming have murder rates significantly lower than the U.S. average.

Poor lil´ Huma is a victim, all right. She´s a victim of her own self-willed choice; of a match made not much from kismet than cold calculation.

Remember when scientists and other truth-seekers used to get all riled up about the way the Catholic Church treated Galileo? The outcry was not over the fact that Galileo was a "peer-reviewed" researcher, and therefore beyond question. Quite the contrary: the argument was that, from the point of view of the quest for truth, no one, including the representatives of official orthodoxy and authority, ought to be regarded as beyond question. In the Michael Mann lawsuit against Mark Steyn and National Review, it is the "award-winning researcher" who is joining the fight for Church orthodoxy

Money can´t buy the kind of political boost Huma Abedin is receiving. Like her mentor Hillary Clinton, the stand-by-your-man strategy will be her gateway to widespread popularity and respect. Don´t feel sorry for the Democrats over losing a former rising star politician like Anthony Weiner, whose future is so hopeless that even the New York Times says it´s time to go. They have gained an even more promising candidate for high office. Huma Abedin is better-looking, better spoken, and more appealing than her role model.(snip)Although raised in Saudi Arabia, Ms. Abedin was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a natural born American.

Much has been made of Obama´s impromptu crashing of the press briefing at the White House the other day to weigh in yet again on Trayvon Martin´s death. The reception of Obama´s discussion reminded me of the movie The King´s Speech, where the man who would be king of England had to give just one good speech, so all of England would feel comfort. As in the movie, I chuckled at the big deal made by "reporters" that the man who is supposed to be a great orator and "Leader of the formerly Free World" did so without his "blankie,"

Colin Powell has admitted to exchanging ´very personal´ emails with a Romanian diplomat but denies having an affair with the much younger woman after a hacker threatened to release their intimate messages. The 76-year-old retired general told the Smoking Gun that he met Corina Cretu, 45, roughly 10 years ago when she was working as an assistant to the president of Romania. She is now a member of the European Parliament. ´After I left the Department of State in January 2005 we stayed in touch via email,´ he told TSG.

Arizona Sen. John McCain was the Republican Party´s 2008 presidential nominee and he still wants the keys to the Oval Office. But he is beginning to sound more like a fan of likely 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. "She´s a rock star," he said in a newly released interview. "She has, maybe not glamour, but certainly the aura of someone widely regarded throughout the world," he added in a reference to her work as secretary of State. Serial sexter Anthony Weiner’s wife partly blamed herself last year when her horndog husband confessed to her that he was at it again. Friends and family told People magazine that Huma Abedin was kicking herself at the time for bailing out of couples counseling and focusing more on their newborn baby boy. But, thanks to a new round of joint therapy that continues even now, the couple was able to put the relapse behind them. “They really became a unit, and she feels much closer to Anthony now,” a relative told the magazine. That’s a long way from how Abedin

Gotta figure her lead would be even bigger without Joe Miller in the field here. Her nomination for the taking? Alaska should be a top tier pick up opportunity for Senate Republicans next year…but their top choice of a candidate is Sarah Palin. 36% of GOP primary voters in the state say they’d like Palin to be their standard bearer against Mark Begich to 26% for Mead Treadwell, 15% for Dan Sullivan, and 12% for Joe Miller.

Sen. John McCain — a Democrat? There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol. The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance. As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.

If we learned anything about Barack Obama in his first term it is that when he starts repeating the same idea over and over, what´s on his mind is something else. The first term´s over-and-over subject was "the wealthiest 1%." Past some point, people wondered why he kept beating these half-dead horses. After the election, we knew. It was to propagandize the targeted voting base that would provide his 4% popular-vote margin of victory—very young voters and minorities. They believed. He won. The second-term over-and-over, elevated in his summer speech tour, is the shafting of the middle class. But

[Video] Ouch. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie turned down an offer by Sen. Rand Paul to join him for a beer and bury the hatchet in their ongoing -- and very public -- feud. "I´m running for re-election in New Jersey. I don´t really have time for that at the moment," Christie said in an interview on a local radio station. The New Jersey governor said if he finds himself in Washington, "I´ll certainly look him up." But he added: "I don´t suspect I´ll be there anytime soon. I´ve got work to do here."
