Tap-dancing woman from
Brooklyn, 23, is crowned Miss
America after speaking out
against armed guards in schools

Daily Mail (UK), by Nina Golgowski

A 23-year-old woman from Brooklyn, New York, has won the title of Miss America - beating out 13,000 other contestants including the pageant’s first autistic contestant and a woman with Tourettes. Mallory Hagan won the beauty pageant on Saturday night after tap dancing to James Brown´s ´Get Up Off of That Thing´ in Las Vegas and answering a question about whether armed guards belong in grade schools by saying the nation should not fight violence with violence. Hagan defeated Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers, who took second, and Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton, who finished third.

It looks like all awards, from the Nobel to the ´´beauty´´ pagents are irrelevant now. It is all political correctness now. Contestant´s minds must be ´´right´´ and their speech carefully crafted to regurgitate the desired themes. None are worth watching any more.

she should read up on the people in DC who
have kids in private schools with armed guards protecting their little darlings. This also included the people in MSM. I think if O is serious about how safe the country would be if all guns were taken away should begin with example and dismiss his secret service personal. Just let
Michelle tell everyone that this is the law
spoken by her husband and voila, the problem will no longer exist, N´est pas?

Right...fight violence with photo shoots, not guns!

Ya´ know, every time one of these supposed ´exemplary´ young ladies opens her mouth at one of these ´meat viewing´ competitions, I can´t help but recall the old hippy bumper sticker...

"Visualize Whirled Peas!"

The absolute vapid mental state of ´progressives´ is on display daily as an utter lack of reality. Oddly - liberals think it´s the *only* reality. Must be why they piled up a quarter billion corpses last century vying for that ´Utopia´ thing...

You´d think a bright bimbo would at least comment on the spectacular death rate of youth attributable to alcohol.

It´s fine with me if those libs who are not hypocritically using gun-wielding people to protect them, elect to not protect themselves and their loved ones.

I, however, are prepared to do just that if necessary.

Worked with lovely folks from the Phillipines and asked then how Marcos was able to take and hold the country for years - answer: "first they took away our guns. You cannot fight men with guns, when you have nothing."

I thought all the questions asked lacked any shred of merit - - and three tapdancers, a twirler, a modern dance contortionist, crooners and piano players in the final 10 - not much real talent anywhere there. But then that is Miss America 2013 style - and donuts for the losers - tacky tacky.

Back in the 1960s, Miss Wisconsin´s talent was shooting a bow and arrow.
And the new Miss America said something so stupid, I was amazed! "You can´t fight violence with violence!"
Tell that to the police, or as others have noted, those upper class parents who hire armed guards...

I watched most of this thing last night, at least my tv was showing it and I looked at it periodically.

Certainly some more attractice women were eliminated all the way down, but Miss NY had a little more style than most.

As usual, I could probably find 50 better contestants by watching grocery store lines for a couple of hours, but they might not really want to trot around on stage in thrift store bikinis.

Just as NY has to import their senators (at least HRC) they seem to need to import their beauty pageant contestant winners.

I´ll bet if Texas had been given a question in the 5 on guns she would have given a great answer. Bet the judges were split between NY & SC like our country.

I don´t really understand how a southern woman, born and raised in the very, very southern town of Opelika, Alabama can be Miss New York. She´s lived there for what, 3 years?! Some girl got skewered a while back for giving her honest opinion on gay marriage and was forever branded. The choice of NY over SC is laden with many political symbolism. The culture war isn´t over until they kill every last one of us. They may be winning battles but they haven´t won the war as long as there are people who believe in decency and affect the people they are around. The war is won one individual at a time and we need to persevere. The Left will not win in the end because their way of lawlessness and personal irresponsibility leads to ruin for those who imbibe their koolaid.

WASHINGTON— Mayor Vincent Gray often calls the District of Columbia "the envy of the nation" for its robust economy and fast-growing population, but some say the local government he leads — plagued by corruption, pay-to-play politics and disengaged voters — is a stain on the city´s progress. The latest bruise to the city´s reputation involves Gray, who is under federal investigation. Prosecutors say he knew about a $668,000 campaign slush fund that helped him get elected in 2010, and while Gray has not been charged, five people involved with his campaign have been convicted. Michigan´s ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional, a federal judge said Friday, striking down a law that was widely embraced by voters a decade ago in the latest in a series of similar decisions across the country. But unlike cases in other states, U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman did not suspend his decision while the Michigan attorney general pursues an appeal. That means clerks could start issuing licenses Monday unless a higher court intervenes. Friedman released his 31-page ruling exactly two weeks after a rare trial that mostly focused on the impact of same-sex parenting on children. The challenge was

The Big Topic on Campus:
Racial ‘Microaggressions’

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A tone-deaf inquiry into an Asian-American’s ethnic origin. Cringe-inducing praise for how articulate a black student is. An unwanted conversation about a Latino’s ability to speak English without an accent. This is not exactly the language of traditional racism, but in an avalanche of blogs, student discourse, campus theater and academic papers, they all reflect the murky terrain of the social justice word du jour — microaggressions — used to describe the subtle ways that racial, ethnic, gender and other stereotypes can play out painfully in an increasingly diverse culture. If the Cold War is back, Marco Rubio wants to be Ronald Reagan. The GOP Florida senator has been laying out his case for a muscular, more interventionist foreign policy for weeks, sounding the alarm about Russia’s incursion into Crimea and criticizing President Obama for his handling of the crisis. He´s positioned himself as a foreign policy hawk who might stand out from a GOP field that’s increasingly dominated by libertarians like Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) — whose views risk looking overly isolationist amid the Russia crisis. Russia’s annexation of Crimea has given Rubio, a Senate Foreign Relations Committee member

U.S. consumers eligible for Obamacare health plans could see double-digit price hikes next year in states that fail to draw large numbers of enrollees for 2014, including some states that have been hostile to the healthcare law, according to insurance industry officials and analysts. The early estimates come as insurance companies set out to design plans they intend to sell in 2015 through the state-based health insurance marketplaces that are a centerpiece of the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama´s signature domestic policy achievement that is widely referred to as Obamacare. Having delved into some deep constitutional issues and philosophical debates the past couple of columns, let’s get into the political nitty-gritty this week, and specifically how this year’s midterm elections are shaping as a good year — a very good year — for Republican House and Senate candidates. I think in many ways the outlines of the 2014 campaign have already been set: All the polls show that the American people have lost their trust and confidence in President Obama and the Democrats (only in part because of Obamacare’s troubles), and unless the Republicans mess things up over the next

With New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stalled by the “Bridgegate” affair, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has become the establishment´s candidate and top pick to win the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, according to a new analysis of the race. “We now consider Bush the leader of the field if he decides to run,” said the influential “Crystal Ball” from the University of Virginia´s Center for Politics. “In recent months, we’ve noticed an unmistakable and widespread desire among some of the Republicans we talk to, particularly ones who would be classified as members of the establishment on and off Capitol Hill, for a third Bush nominee in less than three decades.

*´barking at the staff´ Michelle Obama and three of her family members are staying in a $8,350-per-night Beijing presidential suite, but despite a 24-hour butler and other perks that come with the lodging, her entourage has inconvenienced ´pretty much everyone´ and made the hotel staff ´fed up,´ a well-placed hotel staffer has told MailOnline. [Snip] But the Obamas´ stay has already affected staff and guests at the hotel, with the Westin front-desk veteran alleging that Mrs. Obama´s mother Marian Robinson has been ´barking at the staff since she arrived.´ Government security forces from both China and the U.S. started Thursday to screen

(Video) The Obama ladies are in the house — the house of China, that is. First lady Michelle Obama, her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, and her mother touched down Thursday in China for what’s being touted as a weeklong feel-good tourist event, amid increasing murmurs back home about U.S. taxpayers having to foot the bill. Mrs. Obama is supposed to use her visit for soft diplomacy only, and shy from the more controversial topics that plague U.S.-China relations, namely human rights and economics. No reporters accompanied the family on the trip. “The nature of her visit is really quite

“Obamacare” as shorthand for the Affordcable Care Act was first used mostly by critics of the law, but now everyone’s using the moniker and President Obama has long since embraced it. But apparently no one told Nancy Pelosi, because she’s still ticked off at how much people talk about “Obamacare” instead of the “Affordable Care Act.” In response to a reporter asking a question about Obamacare being a political winner or loser, Pelosi said, “By the way, it’s called the Affordable Care Act. It’s called the Affordable Care Act. I know you didn’t intend any compliment or derogatory––it’s called the

Is Barack Obama simply too busy to be Chief Executive of the United States? Apparently. One of the primary functions of the president is to keep the nation safe, to preserve it from its enemies. To do that effectively, one would actually have to maintain something of a consistent level of attention to the moving pieces that directly influence how future events will unfold. None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf. President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he thinks Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick “would make a great president or vice president.” Obama and Patrick, both Democrats, are friends and close political allies. The two men have campaigned for each other, with Patrick acting as a surrogate for Obama nationally during the 2012 presidential race. Patrick has said clearly that he intends to return to the private sector when his second term as governor is up at the end of the year and will not run for president in 2016. But he has not ruled out a run for office in the

Black students are more likely to be suspended from U.S. public schools — even as tiny preschoolers. The racial disparities in American education, from access to high-level classes and experienced teachers to discipline, were highlighted in a report released Friday by the Education Department´s civil rights arm. The suspensions — and disparities — begin at the earliest grades. Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers who are suspended more than once, the report said. Six percent of the nation´s districts with preschools reported suspending at

During her visit to China, first lady Michelle Obama pointed out that the ability to travel outside of the United States was "rare" but that she chose China for a reason. "It’s very rare that I have the opportunity to travel outside of the United States, and it’s even more rare to have the opportunity to travel with three generations — with my daughters, and with my mother," she said. "And it is no accident that one of our first trips as a family is here to China." Obama made her remarks while visiting a school in Beijing, with the Chinese first

In a speech Friday, Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush praised illegal immigrants as "risk takers" who embody the entrepreneurial spirit of America and doubled down on his defense of Common Core. According to the Miami-Herald, Bush made his remarks in front of business leaders in Florida. “People who come here legally and illegally are the risk takers,” Bush reportedly said. “If you’re living in a rural area of Guatemala and you come, you’re a bigger risk taker than those who stay,” he added. Of course, the first action of those who come to the country illegally is breaking the law. Bush also said he

Ellen DeGeneres was a completely slavish toady to President Obama as he appeared on her show to sell Obamacare -- not to young people, but to mothers. The president made his pitch to "especially all the moms out there who may have young people – 26, 27, do not have health insurance, but they think they’re invincible and nothing’s ever going to happen to ‘em – what we’ve said is you never know what life is going to throw at ya."

College basketball can wait. Did you know that March is actually National Nutrition Month? Today, First Lady Michelle Obama urged Americans via her "Let´s Move!" initiative to challenge their family members to eat one new fruit or vegetable per week in March to faithfully observe the occasion. "March is National Nutrition Month and you can celebrate by challenging your family to try a new fruit or vegetable each week," First Lady Michelle Obama said in an e-mail to supporters today. Never mind that there were less than two "each weeks" left in National Nutrition Month when the e-mail challenge was

Today’s Washington Post features an article by Steven Mufson and Juliet Eilperin headlined, “The biggest lease holder in Canada’s oil sands isn’t Exxon Mobil or Chevron. It’s the Koch brothers.” The article was based on a newly-issued two-page report by the far-left International Forum on Globalization. The Post reported: You might expect the biggest lease owner in Canada’s oil sands, or tar sands, to be one of the international oil giants, like Exxon Mobil or Royal Dutch Shell. But that isn’t the case. The biggest lease holder in the northern Alberta oil sands is a subsidiary of Koch Industries, the privately-owned
