How did Ray Lewis go from
murder suspect in 2000 to
NFL royalty in 2013?

Yahoo! Sports, by Jay Busbee

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 1/12/2013 9:02:52 PM

Thirteen years ago, Ray Lewis was in the back of a limousine speeding down an Atlanta street, leaving the chaos of what would become a notorious murder scene. Today, Ray Lewis prepares to play his final minutes in the NFL as one of the most celebrated and iconic players in league history. These are two sets of indisputable facts, facts that don´t seem to connect in any meaningful way. To accept one set, you have to virtually ignore the other. It just doesn´t make sense, no matter which angle you take. How does a man implicated in a double homicide end up receiving a congratulatory bear hug

Comments:
This is what I think of whenever I see Ray Lewis. He´s sure not royalty in my humble opinion.

Kinda the same with Kobe and OJ. Rich game players with poor moral compasses. Too bad they are role models for the black community

I dunno, I´ve seen some interviews of Ray Lewis. Whatever his past may be (no charges were brought against him), he has become -- he has made himself into -- a remarkable man. He works, he studies, he plans, he sets a terrific example for the young players around him.

A lot of the players in the NFL are little more than highly paid thugs. Mr. Lewis has made himself into something much more than that. In terms of role models, I´d say he´s exactly what the young men in the black community need to see.

I do not know who Ray Lewis was, but I do know that for the past two games, Mr. Lewis has laid his success at the feet of God. Not Allah or some non-denomintational spiritual being - but the God of the Christian Bible. He had a shirt with Psalms 91 on it. Intrigued, this questing agnostic went and read it and and found something powerful. He is leaving his (still viable) football career to be a full-time dad. I do not know who he was, but I respect who he is.

I would not think a man of his physical stature would need a knife to kill anyone.
However, his two companions likely would have had knives.
They must have had one of those OJ juries...to be acquitted, especially with lewis tesfifying against them..

For all here & everywhere: I learned a while ago on a consistent proven basis to read anything Yahoo Sports puts out at first blush. It is not objective at all. I have no love for the Ravens or Lewis.....but I have repeatedly seen Yahoo Sports smear a lot of well-known sports figures. It appears to me there is an ´agenda´. Go research & find out yourself. Do not always believe what you read in a newspaper----my parents repeatedly told me. Neither should you.

The sanctimonious swipes from this thread, misunderstanding of redemption and grace of this article, and hollow and untrue headline... are disgusting...

Go back and read #10, watch Ray Lewis on the field next week... then post that ... "I may have been wrong..."

Ray´s recent injury was a "blessing in disguise"... He was able to attend his children´s sports activities at their schools and was reminded that his Dad wasn´t "there" for him as a kid and that he needed to be there for his kids... It´s called sacrafice, folks... What Christ did when He died on The Cross for you and me...

And read Psalm 91 which Ray had on his shirt last weekend... It is, indeed, powerful... Just like him!

Let me reiterate... In my assessment, Yahoo Sports stopped being any kind of credible read years ago. Any one here or anywhere who takes what one reads as ´real´ at Yahoo Sports deserves to be duped & deceived ...it is that non-credible. But then again Dick Durbin, Harry Reid, etc continue to be elected as US Senators.

Not being an avid all year long football watcher( the Lions are my team , after all) I was wondering about this very thing as I watched them scrape by the Broncos ( my real favorite team). I must say that his admonishment of " No weapons! No weapons! No Weapons! " prior to his on the field, post-game interview seemed to come from the heart. I´m no fan of Yahoo anything but I did appreciate the background information.

He may be redeemed but there has been no justice for the murder victims. Maybe he´ll appear on Oprah in a few years and tell all? In the meantime, his brilliant NFL career will go on for at least one more week.

Minor correction: Saul/Paul was present at Stephen´s martyrdom. He did not kill him. As for the football player, I am somewhat cautious about those who seek, and need, absolution of this kind. I prefer those who don´t get involved in killing people in the first place.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church.
