Obama online petition site: Direct
democracy or empty gesture?

Washington Times, by Patrick Hruby

Original Article

Posted By:MissMolly, 1/12/2013 5:40:07 AM

We, the People have spoken. We have shouted from the rooftops, typed from our desktops, clicked from our laptops. We have visited the official White House petition website — nearly 3 million of us, to be precise — and exercised our First Amendment right to let our duly (and newly) re-elected President Barack Obama know exactly what we would like the federal government to accomplish, including and in no particular order: 1. Deport television talk host and British national Piers Morgan; 2. Formally acknowledge that space aliens are real, and have walked — probed? — among us;

Comments:
Remember how your first grade teacher would pass out coloring pages when she was going to be busy? Well, this is the equivalent. We should put away our crayons.

Oh, it´s empty gesture for sure, just like everything else with the empty suit.

It is a way for the obama administration to add names and email addresses of the dissenters to their list and add names and email addresses of their "pretend friends" to their list.

It is a harvesting exercise, nothing more.

Its for taking names of those that would oppose him on his gun grab. One night in the darkest of dark his goone squad will visit you.

This petition business is as significant as all of those the ´break-out sessions´ zero was so fond of at the start of his first term. Just another faculty lounge exercise designed to bolster the incompotent one´s feeling of superiority. And like the break-out sessions, the petitions will lead to nothing.

Never would I visit any .gov sites or WH sites unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. They are collectors of information, to use AGAINST we the people. I warn all my friends not to use any google sites as well including gmail. It all goes into the Obama information repository. It´s better to stay as far under the radar as possible.

So far, Joel Osteen seems prepared to turn the other cheek. The target of an elaborate internet hoax that tricked many people into believing that the charismatic leader of Lakewood Church had forsaken his Christian faith, Osteen refused to say whether he planned to take legal action against those responsible. “You know, I’m really not angry. I don’t feel like a victim,” Osteen told ABC News. “I feel too blessed, that life is too short to let things like this get you down.” In a coordinated April fool’s prank, a man who has so far remained anonymous

A couple of months ago, François Hollande was presented with a baby camel by local authorities in Timbuktu in appreciation for France’s military action against Islamist militants in Mali. The animal did not come quietly. Hollande had initially hoped to have the camel vaccinated and transported to a Parisian zoo, but decided it would be easiest for the French and best for the beast if it were entrusted to a local Timbuktu family who had suffered damage to their property from French tanks. It appears that his trust was misplaced.

After listening to the latest secret recording made public by Mother Jones, there’s no question that Ashley Judd — and the Democratic Party — dodged a serious bullet when the actress decided not to run against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).While I agree with The Fix that the dust-up over said recording of a McConnell campaign opposition research meeting is “much ado about not much” since such research is a bipartisan ritual, there was enough oppo gold to sink a Judd candidacy. Justin Timberlake concerts for King Obama… but no Blue Angels for Americans… KomoNews reports the following: SEATTLE — The annual summer Blue Angels show over Seattle has fallen victim to federal budget cuts. Seafair spokeswoman Melissa Jurcan said the festival received official word from the Navy on Tuesday morning that the fighter jet demonstration team would not be making the trip to Seattle for 2013. Sequestration prompted the Department of Defense to prohibit military aerial demonstrations along with other cost savings measures, and the Navy said it was cancelling all remaining Blue Angels performances for the year.

It´s a story that could be ripped from the headlines of the National Enquirer. A family feud. A multimillion dollar estate. Dueling allegations of fraud. Accusations of kidnapping, theft, and stalking. Tales of lavish spending that include a private jet chartered to transport 18 dogs. And in the latest chapter, ongoing in a Florida courtroom today, a wealthy mother so fed up with allegedly being asked for handouts that she has filed a restraining order against her son. MIAMI -- Lilly Pulitzer hosted parties in her bare feet and wasn´t afraid to get a little messy - just as long as she looked good and had fun, too. In the late 1950s, the Palm Beach socialite had time to spare and a wealthy husband who owned citrus groves, so she opened an orange juice stand just off the island´s main shopping street. Pulitzer needed to hide all the juice stains on her clothes, though. Instead of just putting on an apron, she asked her seamstress to make some sleeveless dresses

An attempt by Colorado lawmakers to ban welfare recipients from withdrawing their benefits at ATMs located inside strip clubs was killed by Democrats Thursday night, even though the state House’s third-ranking Democratic legislator supported the measure. Democratic Rep. Dan Pabon lent his support to the Republican-led proposal, offered as an amendment during a debate on the state budget Thursday night, because it would hew to a similar federal rule, according to the Denver Post. Pabon introduced a bill on the issue two years ago, but it didn’t clear the state Senate. State welfare recipients receive their benefits

Add the name of Michelle Lynne (ne Robert) Kosilek to the list of modern phenomena the Founding Fathers would definitely not appreciate being blamed for. Little did they know what havoc they would someday wreak by adding the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution to prohibit “cruel and unusual punishment.” Now comes Kosilek, a convicted wife murderer doing life without parole. He/she is claiming that it would be cruel and unusual punishment to deny him/her a sex-change operation — excuse me, “gender-reassignment surgery.”Not to get too graphic, but Kosilek is begging for elective amputation of a body part.

Two very bad and extremely dangerous economic developments happened yesterday — and Wall Street appeared to miss both of them. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 40.86 points to 14565.25 after the Labor Department announced that the seasonally adjusted number of new jobs created in March was just 88,000 — far below the 190,000 or so Wall Street expected. The March figure was also less than one-third the number of jobs created during February. This led to the misperception that the job market tanked in March. It didn’t.

Duck Dynasty must make liberals heads explode. It is now the most popular “non-scripted” show currently on television. Its Season 3 premiere had 8.6 million viewers and a massive 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which as you might know, is quite popular with the advertisers. At the same time, each episode ends with the entire family at the dinner table where they pray before eating. Indeed, the Robertson clan is entirely evangelical. They take their faith in Christ seriously and exert quite a bit of effort preaching the gospel. The patriarch of the family, Phil, used to live

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.
