Tipline: Are Pedometers
in School a Good Idea?

WGRZ-TV [Buffalo, NY], by Jeff Preval

Original Article

Posted By:PeoplesRepublikNY, 1/11/2013 6:16:56 PM

Pedometers track your physical activity, by measuring the steps you take each day. Now, they´re being used in several local schools to track the physical activity of students. Should schools require students to wear them? Several parents tell 2 On Your Side that they´re refusing to have their kids wear them and a prominent local attorney says they´re onto something. [Snip] The program, which originates from the U.S. Department of Education

Comments:
No doubt this Big Brother program is courtesy of Moochelle Obama and reflects the gtowing intrusions in our privacy by Obamacare. Four Buffalo-area school districts are implementing the program, and it´s being funded by $230,000 to $725,000 of YOUR taxpayer dollars.

I don´t think pedometers should be allowed to stalk our kids in school.
This is just outrageous.

We have so many tragic reports of abuse, of attacks, of molestations in schools...

Let´s get these filthy pedometers away from our kids as soon as possible!
Save the chillrun!

Good grief, why not install a camera in everyone`s forehead after birth so Big Brother can follow us from cradle to grave. It`s important to know who is and who isn`t consuming a 17 oz soda. /s

One thing for sure, our govn has too much time on its hands. That`s why it needs to get smaller. The Founders had it right. The best govn is limited govn.

Sorry, it´s no one´s business how much a student walks. I have a pedometer, I´m supposed to walk 10,000 steps a day (1 mile) according to all the health sites. I have a desk job, I have things to do at home once I get there. I also have a bad back, and can´t walk much without extreme pain. But, my doctor refuses to give me pain killers that work. So, I just don´t walk. I admit, when I was a kid, I could have done better, but maybe that mile a day takes away from study time, and the child will flunk a class.

It doesn´t say anything about food consumption in the story, but several of the commenters mentioned they had a food diary to fill out as well, indicating how many servings of veggies each student ate during the day. Just plain creepy.

My boys probably walked a mile before breakfast! They never sat down !
They wore out the tires on their bikes, wore the wheels off their scooters, wore their shoes out in less than a month.
Very fit and healthy, and loved being outdoors.
Of course, I allowed no TV during the week.

When I read the title and blurb, I thought, "Wow, what a quick way to justify eliminating Phys Ed...the pedometers show the kiddies get enough exercise running between classes."

Alas, it is not so innocent, they are supposed to confess what they eat along with the pedometer showing how they walk it off.

Oh, and...yeah, right! the form "doesn´t record" the children´s name or SS#...the teacher can write it down when they turn it in!

Washington - Both of Western New York’s Republican congressmen find themselves backpedaling furiously from the tea party strategy they supported that led the nation to a 16-day government shutdown as well as the brink of default. Both Rep. Chris Collins of Clarence and Rep. Tom Reed of Corning said in response to questioning that it was a mistake for House Republicans to tie the funding of government to defunding of Obamacare [Snip]. Collins, in an interview, blamed the failed strategy on Sen. Ted Cruz [Snip]. “I think Sen. Cruz has done a disservice to the Republican Party,” Collins said.

It´s no surprise that Barack Obama´s authoritarian streak is revealing itself at last. It was always there; clearly apparent in his rhetoric (e.g., his envy of Chinese president Xi Jin-ping´s powers), his abuse of executive orders, his threats against Congress, his sultan with fly-whisk attitudes toward his opposition, and even his vacations, which reek more of third-world trash gamboling on the Riviera than any American leader (George W. Bush settled his mind by clearing brush in Texas, Reagan at his ranch in Santa Barbara. Obama unfortunately finds the brush already cleared in Martha´s Vineyard and Hawaii.)

President Obama has repeatedly suspended parts of the Affordable Care Act without the consent of Congress. The latest unilateral action happened Monday night, when the administration announced another delay of the employer mandate, the law´s provision that businesses with more than 50 employees must provide their employees with insurance starting in 2014 or pay large fines. In July, the president decreed the mandate wouldn´t be enforced at all in 2014, and last night administration officials declared that businesses with 50 to 99 employees wouldn´t be penalized in 2015.
