LOS ANGELES - Fourteen department store employees have been rescued by a Los Angeles SWAT team after a four-hour armed robbery hostage drama inside a Nordstrom Rack department store, a police spokesman said Friday. The two robbers have escaped despite an extensive search of the department store. No one was hurt. The employees _ 13 women and a man _ were being questioned. The ordeal at the Promenade at Howard Hughes Center began at about 11 p.m., when a boyfriend of a Nordstrom worker placed a frantic 911 call and said his girlfriend called him

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Police say some of the 14 workers held hostage overnight during a robbery at a Los Angeles clothing store were assaulted, and one was stabbed.
Police Lt. Andy Neiman says the stabbed worker was treated for a non-life threatening wound.
He says another worker was sexually assaulted and others were manhandled during the four-hour standoff at a Nordstrom Rack store near Los Angeles International Airport.
At least two robbers are being sought.

The thing that seems odd to me is that an employee called her boyfriend first , then he called 911 for her. Why would you do that? Wouldn´t it seem more reasonable to call 911 first while you had a chance? Maybe she had more confidence in him than in the 911 system?

The LA Swat team surrounds the place for 4 hours and the bad guys can´t be found? Somebodys gots some ´splanin to doooo.
You see now why you need to be armed?
God bless the LEOs but they can not be the first line of defense. The bad guys were gone before they got there. Eithere that or the team needs to be retrained.

Nice parts of LA are normally less susceptible to crude thug crime. That´s why they are nice. You are unlikely to get mugged in Beverly Hills the way you would in South Central. Sometimes it´s more guards & neighborhood informants willing to call the cops, sometimes it´s because they don´t empty out the prisons in the nice areas.

Speaking in Ohio this week, the Youngstown Vindicator reports, veteran investigative journalist Bob Woodward recalled an “unflattering” story about a dining experience with former Vice President Al Gore. According to the local paper, Woodward “told an unflattering, but amusing story about sitting next to former Vice President Al Gore at a dinner, saying being with him was taxing.” “To be really honest, it’s unpleasant,” the journalist added of his experience with Gore. The AP says most of the pardons were granted to criminals convicted of low-level offenses, though not all were small-time offenders: Most were for people convicted of selling or possessing drugs. However, Robert Phillip Brown was convicted of murder. He was paroled in 1996 after serving 15 years in prison. ... It’s no secret that Egyptian slavery is as old as the pyramids. It’s also common knowledge that Barack Obama’s ancestors owned slaves. So it’s really no surprise that he helped usher in a radical Egpytian regime that is restoring slavery. According to the AP Egypt’s new constitution has dropped its ban on slavery: Omissions of certain articles, such as bans on slavery or promises to adhere to international rights treaties, were equally worrying to critics of the new draft, who pulled out from the panel before the vote. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church.
