| Republican Governor Bobby Jindal said on Thursday he wants to eliminate all Louisiana personal and corporate income taxes to simplify the state´s tax code and make it more friendly to business. The governor did not release details of his proposal, but his office released a statement confirming that the taxes are targets of a broader tax reform plan. "Our goal is to eliminate all personal income tax and all corporate income tax in a revenue neutral manner," Jindal said in the statement. This can be done very fairly. Texas has no sales tax on "groceries", prescription drugs and many OTC drugs. That is very fair to citizens on limited incomes. The state rate is 6.25% and city, county, transit and special purpose districts can add taxes totaling another 2% for a maximum 8.25%.

Unlike California...Here we pay something like 8.375% sales tax which I think is going up again, plus high income tax, property tax, and a zillion other hidden taxes. Plus prices are high for everything here.

Business income taxes merely get added to the price of the product. When you eliminate the taxes you lower the price of the product on the shelf. This make LA companies more competitive with those in other states. This also reduces the possibility of corruption because an official can´t be bribed to give a tax break when there are no income taxes.

I really love this kind of thinking,just like McDonnell in Va.This eliminate countless man hours compiling receipts etc. for deductions.4% sales tax is too low anyway,people that yoke the government for money and benefits need to help feed the beast.
I´m a huge fan of Jindal becoming the 2016 candidate,assuming we survive 4 more of Obama,which is really in question.
I´ve been saying for a while now,republicans need to be more progressive thinkers.Not in a liberal sense but new ways of dealing with old problems.

It´s hard, not impossible, to attack an idea that works. It works in Texas. Other states are also toying with the idea. Republican governors are our way out of the forest. I hope Jindal and others don´t roll over like their brethren in DC.

France will lose its best footballers due to President François Hollande’s “crazy” 75 per cent tax on millionaire earners, the country’s football league warned on Tuesday, after a failed attempt by leading players to avoid the levy. Denver - A popular hunting shotgun could be banned under one of the bills moving through the state Capitol. A pump or semi-automatic shotgun is the gun most hunters in Colorado use. It’s a gun state Sen. Greg Brophy, R-Wray, says could be banned under a bill that’s already passed the House and Gov. John Hickenlooper says he’ll sign. “They’re coming after the standard shotgun,” Brophy told CBS4 Political Specialist Shaun Boyd. Brophy says if Democrats succeed in passing a bill limiting large capacity magazines in Colorado, they’ll outlaw the most popular selling firearm for hunting.

NPR reports on a new federal cost-cutting move: Every month, the government sends out about 5 million checks to Americans who receive federal benefits. On March 1, the Treasury Department is making those paper checks a thing of the past. Since May 2011, all new Social Security recipients are required to get direct deposit of their benefits. Some 93 percent of all recipients now do. But there are still holdouts, so the Treasury Department started a campaign and a website, Go Direct, in an effort to convince the remaining 7 percent.

North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass.
