I am so surprised and impressed.
Seeing at close range the damage marijuana addiction can do to a life and a mind, I wish Patrick Kennedy and this organization success against the daunting odds they face.

Kennedy and his cousin Cristopher Lawford were on O´Reilly the other night and I was quite impresssed with their honesty. They accepted responsibility for thier own actions well as discussed the dangers when addiction is a part of family history.

Lawford has 26 years of sobriety, Kennedy is still at the beginning...wish him well.

It takes a rum besotted family, bootlegger nazi supporter grandpa Joe Kennedy, some murders, and mental illness, to get the chops to lead an attack on pot. Where is the spotlight on the prescription drugs? Suicide drugs, and school daze drugs all are involved in these doped up products of the modern medical system.
Someone should try the logic of this defense stratagery: "Judge, i´m a victim you see, that gun I was holding is the guilty object. Or that car I was driving, it´s guilty of the hit and run."
This is the end times, and a tyrant and his cabal are the barbarians at the gates. Good men are going to have to stop them.

#5, old Joe Kennedy had many faults and there are many reasons to condemn or disdain him, but it´s a myth that he was a "bootlegger".

Okay, I know I´ll get creamed here but here goes: Marijuana is no more harmful than alcohol. In fact it´s less so. No, I don´t smoke it, never have, never even seen a cigarette. But I hate the misinformation out there. If alcohol is legal then so should marijuana be.
In fact, and I know this is a radical idea, it should all be legal - crack, heroin - you name it. Then make people go to clinics to get it and tax it. There is no way to win this ´war´ by fighting it with billions of tax dollars.
Take the money out of the equation for those who grow and sell it illegally. Yes, some will abuse it anyway. They´re doing it now. The only difference will be that to get it you have to see clinic personnel and they are allowed to talk about your addiction. That will probably save more lives than forced rehab. Just ask Lindsay Lohan about that.

The wall of political correctness that has long protected cannabis use from critical medical and cultural examination may be beginning to crack. Since the Sixties it has been taboo and a mark of reactionary thinking to question the safety and wisdom of cannabis use. Anyone who does so is automatically derided as ignorant, behind the times, even fascist.

But very little is actually known about the long term effects of cannabis consumption on the human brain and body. It has simply not been studied in depth and to the degree required to reach reliable conclusions.

Those who compare pot smoking to having a few drinks ignore the fact that the pharmacology and behavioral effects of these mind-altering substances are quite different. They also ignore, or are unaware of, the reality of cannabis addiction/abuse. There really are individuals who cannot seem to control their intake, just as there are those who cannot control their intake of alcohol. This, too, has not received the quality research it warrants. It is politically incorrect to suggest that there could be anything at all harmful about cannabis use.

This is a comedy, right? Patches leads the way on substance abuse? Patches? Or, really, any kennedy? What´s next? Spousal abuse?

Joe Kennedy ran booze from Canada during Prohibition. Have read it in several well researched autobiographies. That is the main foundation of the Kennedy fortune. Kennedy was out for any buck he could get.

Untrue, #10. Almost all the tales of old Joe´s bootlegging come from a single person, who "thought" he overheard a conversation. Read "Patriarch", where the story is completely debunked. The fortune Joe amassed was built on banking, finance, real estate, movies and much more.

#7 One major flaw in your solution that sticks out like a sore thumb is the clinics users would need to go to for their drug of choice.
We have entered the realm of Obamacare. Where will you find the personnel to staff these clinics? If people will not be able to find MDs to give them regular medical care, why would we use decreasing resources for drug clinics?

#7, I might not share your opinions but I think your ideas might be worth trying. If we legalize it and tax it, we would be better off.

Such legalization would put the emphasis on tax evasion rather than pot possession. Tax evasion carries much more serious penalities than possession.

So let us try it. What have we to lose? Almost everyone smokes the stuff anyway.

Every last spray shooting (except Sandy Hook, which is unknown) involved a young man, schizophrenia and heavy duty use of marijuana. The maggot in Norway ran a pot farm, the freak in Tucson smoked dope as his life´s accomplishment, the monster in Colorado was all about getting hold of lots of pot - which is why he moved to Colorado with its relaxed laws in the first place. Even the florida face-eater had no bath salts in his body, the autopsy found only evidence of lots of marijuana in him. I´m fine if Colorado wants more guys like James Holmes, let them learn the hard way. But it´s not possible to ignore facts about what this druggy substance can do to those with the genetic predisposition to violent schizophrenia. It´s a mind-altering drug and well, this is how it alters some minds. As Ayn Rand says: You can ignore reality but you cannot ignore the consequences of reality. The pot lobby should acknowledge its pot-caused spray shootings and lay off the sane gun people.

#15, even if it´s true that all of these mass shooters used marijuana, why should the many millions of other marijuana users who have not committed violent crimes be tarred with the same brush.

I came out of the 60´s- weed everywhere. Along the way, there was a steady stream of casualties. Yeah, most of us straightened out and became citizens, parents, etc., but there were people left behing who spent their lives in misery due to the drug culture. Celebs can hit the rehab, the workers just drop to the bottom.

It´s a scientific fact- a percentage of heavy smokers- especially young men will become schizoid.

Something that people never want to admit is that prohibition of alcohol led to people drinking less. Legalization of marijuana will lead to people using it more--a cost to society with no benefit (other than a medicinal use that could probably be address better by other, legal medications).

The benefits of legalization are many. Law enforcement freed up to concentrate on crimes against persons or property; tax revenue from marijuana; end of turf wars between dealers; no criminal records for those who use it. Yes, Prohibition caused people to drink less, but it also gave us Al Capone.

I quit using the stuff to go to EE grad school, and was doing pretty. Some friends talked me into a joint one night, and I could not understand the control theory lectures for the next 3 days. Luckily, my IQ came back up after a while. That´s why you can´t convince these stoners that marijuana isn´t good.

Bootlegger and Nazi Sympathizer! Big time on both. For shame to any fool attempting to rewrite history, and a bath water cocktail to any even bigger fool who believes it. As for pot and psychosis, paint me a believer. It´s a psychotropic drug period, and the pot available today is of a potency that would blow the doors off of any Height Ashbury retard or woodstock braindead.

Assuming there are cost-saving benefits, what about the costs of legalization? These would included paying for injuries from accidents caused by stoned drivers (paid by government or insurance), people having to go on welfare because they or their family support can´t hold a job because of a marijuana habit, law enforcement costs pursuing tax evaders and sellers on the black market and prison costs for those who are caught, enforcing laws against sale to minors, medical costs (paid for by government or insurance) to help users with dependence, psychological problems or unforeseen medical problems caused by pot use, to name several. And that doesn´t address the likelihood that legalization would increase use by children and teenagers. Do we really want this?
