| The major media do not want to cover the issue of marijuana causing mental illness. But because a prominent Democrat, Patrick Kennedy, has raised it, the media have nowhere left to hide. The news that he says marijuana “Destroys the brain and expedites psychosis” was big news and a big headline in The Washington Post. Kennedy fought alcoholism and an addiction to prescription drugs and is now taking on the marijuana lobby, while getting verbal abuse from the potheads in return. The Marijuana Policy Project calls his new group, SAM (Smart Approaches to Marijuana), the “new threat”

Comments: Patrick Kennedy had made a mess of his life, but I credit him now for trying to clean it up. He´s got a new wife, a baby and a cause. Good on him.

I am so surprised and impressed. Seeing at close range the damage marijuana addiction can do to a life and a mind, I wish Patrick Kennedy and this organization success against the daunting odds they face.

Kennedy and his cousin Cristopher Lawford were on O´Reilly the other night and I was quite impresssed with their honesty. They accepted responsibility for thier own actions well as discussed the dangers when addiction is a part of family history.
Lawford has 26 years of sobriety, Kennedy is still at the beginning...wish him well.

It takes a rum besotted family, bootlegger nazi supporter grandpa Joe Kennedy, some murders, and mental illness, to get the chops to lead an attack on pot. Where is the spotlight on the prescription drugs? Suicide drugs, and school daze drugs all are involved in these doped up products of the modern medical system. Someone should try the logic of this defense stratagery: "Judge, i´m a victim you see, that gun I was holding is the guilty object. Or that car I was driving, it´s guilty of the hit and run." This is the end times, and a tyrant and his cabal are the barbarians at the gates. Good men are going to have to stop them.
It´s not the skin color, it´s the character under the skin that tells. Liars don´t have it, nor do thieves. MLK was right, and Obama has a corrupt character. It´s not right vs left, it´s right vs wrong. He is the difference.

Okay, I know I´ll get creamed here but here goes: Marijuana is no more harmful than alcohol. In fact it´s less so. No, I don´t smoke it, never have, never even seen a cigarette. But I hate the misinformation out there. If alcohol is legal then so should marijuana be. In fact, and I know this is a radical idea, it should all be legal - crack, heroin - you name it. Then make people go to clinics to get it and tax it. There is no way to win this ´war´ by fighting it with billions of tax dollars. Take the money out of the equation for those who grow and sell it illegally. Yes, some will abuse it anyway. They´re doing it now. The only difference will be that to get it you have to see clinic personnel and they are allowed to talk about your addiction. That will probably save more lives than forced rehab. Just ask Lindsay Lohan about that.

The wall of political correctness that has long protected cannabis use from critical medical and cultural examination may be beginning to crack. Since the Sixties it has been taboo and a mark of reactionary thinking to question the safety and wisdom of cannabis use. Anyone who does so is automatically derided as ignorant, behind the times, even fascist.
But very little is actually known about the long term effects of cannabis consumption on the human brain and body. It has simply not been studied in depth and to the degree required to reach reliable conclusions.
Those who compare pot smoking to having a few drinks ignore the fact that the pharmacology and behavioral effects of these mind-altering substances are quite different. They also ignore, or are unaware of, the reality of cannabis addiction/abuse. There really are individuals who cannot seem to control their intake, just as there are those who cannot control their intake of alcohol. This, too, has not received the quality research it warrants. It is politically incorrect to suggest that there could be anything at all harmful about cannabis use.

Joe Kennedy ran booze from Canada during Prohibition. Have read it in several well researched autobiographies. That is the main foundation of the Kennedy fortune. Kennedy was out for any buck he could get.

Untrue, #10. Almost all the tales of old Joe´s bootlegging come from a single person, who "thought" he overheard a conversation. Read "Patriarch", where the story is completely debunked. The fortune Joe amassed was built on banking, finance, real estate, movies and much more.

#7 One major flaw in your solution that sticks out like a sore thumb is the clinics users would need to go to for their drug of choice. We have entered the realm of Obamacare. Where will you find the personnel to staff these clinics? If people will not be able to find MDs to give them regular medical care, why would we use decreasing resources for drug clinics?

#7, I might not share your opinions but I think your ideas might be worth trying. If we legalize it and tax it, we would be better off.
Such legalization would put the emphasis on tax evasion rather than pot possession. Tax evasion carries much more serious penalities than possession.
So let us try it. What have we to lose? Almost everyone smokes the stuff anyway.

Every last spray shooting (except Sandy Hook, which is unknown) involved a young man, schizophrenia and heavy duty use of marijuana. The maggot in Norway ran a pot farm, the freak in Tucson smoked dope as his life´s accomplishment, the monster in Colorado was all about getting hold of lots of pot - which is why he moved to Colorado with its relaxed laws in the first place. Even the florida face-eater had no bath salts in his body, the autopsy found only evidence of lots of marijuana in him. I´m fine if Colorado wants more guys like James Holmes, let them learn the hard way. But it´s not possible to ignore facts about what this druggy substance can do to those with the genetic predisposition to violent schizophrenia. It´s a mind-altering drug and well, this is how it alters some minds. As Ayn Rand says: You can ignore reality but you cannot ignore the consequences of reality. The pot lobby should acknowledge its pot-caused spray shootings and lay off the sane gun people.

I came out of the 60´s- weed everywhere. Along the way, there was a steady stream of casualties. Yeah, most of us straightened out and became citizens, parents, etc., but there were people left behing who spent their lives in misery due to the drug culture. Celebs can hit the rehab, the workers just drop to the bottom.
It´s a scientific fact- a percentage of heavy smokers- especially young men will become schizoid.

Good for him--but I wonder if he is ready for the demonization that will be coming his way. Something that people never want to admit is that prohibition of alcohol led to people drinking less. Legalization of marijuana will lead to people using it more--a cost to society with no benefit (other than a medicinal use that could probably be address better by other, legal medications).

The benefits of legalization are many. Law enforcement freed up to concentrate on crimes against persons or property; tax revenue from marijuana; end of turf wars between dealers; no criminal records for those who use it. Yes, Prohibition caused people to drink less, but it also gave us Al Capone.

As for pot and psychosis, paint me a believer. Assuming there are cost-saving benefits, what about the costs of legalization? These would included paying for injuries from accidents caused by stoned drivers (paid by government or insurance), people having to go on welfare because they or their family support can´t hold a job because of a marijuana habit, law enforcement costs pursuing tax evaders and sellers on the black market and prison costs for those who are caught, enforcing laws against sale to minors, medical costs (paid for by government or insurance) to help users with dependence, psychological problems or unforeseen medical problems caused by pot use, to name several. And that doesn´t address the likelihood that legalization would increase use by children and teenagers. Do we really want this?

WASHINGTON —President Obama used his weekly radio address on Saturday to reassure the American people that he has “played no role whatsoever” in the U.S. government over the past four years. “Right now, many of you are angry at the government, and no one is angrier than I am,” he said. “Quite frankly, I am glad that I have had no involvement in such an organization.” The President’s outrage only increased, he said, when he “recently became aware of a part of that government called the Department of Justice.” “The more I learn about the activities of these individuals,

OVER the last decade, the United States has become a less violent country in every way save one. As Americans commit fewer and fewer crimes against other people’s lives and property, they have become more likely to inflict fatal violence on themselves. In the 1990s, the suicide rate dipped with the crime rate. But since 2000, it has risen, and jumped particularly sharply among the middle-aged. The suicide rate for Americans 35 to 54 increased nearly 30 percent between 1999 and 2010; for men in their 50s, it rose nearly 50 percent. More Americans now die of suicide

In the days after the Benhazi attack, the State Department scurried to cover up its failure to heed warnings of such attacks while the White House scurried to cover up the fact that that attacks were the work of al Qaeda-linked terrorists of the sort President Obama supposedly had largely vanquished. The final Benghazi “talking points” and Susan Rice’s talk show appearances represent the product of this scurrying. To help advance the narrative that the Benghazi attacks were spontaneous, and thus (a) not to have been anticipated and (b) not linked to al Qaeda,

SAN DIEGO — In the ocean off Coronado, a Navy team has discovered a relic worthy of display in a military museum: a torpedo of the kind deployed in the late 19th century, considered a technological marvel in its day. But don´t look for the primary discoverers to get a promotion or an invitation to meet the admirals at the Pentagon - although they might get an extra fish for dinner or maybe a pat on the snout. The so-called Howell torpedo was discovered by bottlenose dolphins being trained by the Navy to find undersea objects, including mines,

It must be George W. Bush’s fault. Everything else is. The moonbats’ verdict is in. Barack Obama couldn’t possibly have done all those terrible things the vast right-wing conspiracy is accusing him of. And they’re not scandals, either. Obama’s troubles are merely “controversies” or, to use Dear Leader’s own phrase, a sideshow. Scandals only happen to Republicans, just like Deval Patrick didn’t go on a junket to Ireland. It was a “trade mission.” Democrats never make mistakes either — “mistakes were made,” in the passive voice.

Jay Carney insists Benghazi, Libya, is not a scandal, but then he doesn’t admit to having misled the media about the origin of the attacks. The administration now tells CBS News, “We’re portrayed by Republicans as either being lying or idiots. It’s actually closer to us being idiots.” It would be nice if the source specified what part(s) of the administration were idiotic and why it’s “closer” but not all attributable to incompetence. The problem with claiming incompetence is two-fold. First, it raises the question as to where the president was on Sept. 11, 2012,

The standard police warning about con men applies to politicians, as well: When they tell you something that sounds too good to be true, it usually is. So it goes with the White House claim that it knew nothing — nothing! — about the targeting of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service. Of course the White House knew. And we already have the first piece of evidence. The Friday hearing on what amounted to political profiling of anti-Obama groups took a huge step toward demolishing White House efforts to distance itself from the scandal. The right noticed long ago that Obama is a cold fish and an arrogant loner, a man willing to abandon longtime mentors in the blink of an eye if need be (think Jeremiah Wright). It never seemed as though Democrats cared, though, as long as Obama served their purposes and they served his. Now that he’s become a little bit of an embarrassment to them, Obama may find, perhaps for the first time in his life, that a number of his fellow liberals are willing to throw him under the bus. There’s been a new, and some might say long overdue twist in the ongoing saga of Ecuador’s Chevron shakedown. We’ve been covering this story here since January of 2011 and it’s been a wild roller coaster ride. From the time the environmental groups involved were initially awarded a huge payday in a kangaroo court, we’ve seen blatant fraud uncovered on the part of the plaintiffs, “investors” in the lawsuit claiming they were defrauded, and the judge in the case admitting that he was bribed.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

There was a running joke in the fall of 2008 that John McCain should simply re-air Hillary Clinton’s “3 a.m. phone call” ad, which highlighted Barack Obama’s lack of experience and meager knowledge of world affairs, and just tack on “I’m John McCain, and I approve this message” at the end of the ad. The point was that thanks to the bitter primary battle between the Clintons and Obama, Democrats had already developed the most effective lines of attack against Obama, and Republicans needed only to nod their heads in agreement. The first lady, speaking to graduates at Bowie State University, a historically black college, criticized the worship of sports stars and celebrities. "Today, instead of walking miles every day to school, they’re sitting on couches for hours playing video games, watching TV," she said of black youth. "Instead of dreaming of being a teacher or a lawyer or a business leader, they’re fantasizing about being a baller or a rapper."

Even as his administration has faced intense scrutiny over a trio of controversies, President Obama’s approval rating hasn’t suffered, according to a new CNN/ORC International poll released Sunday. Fifty-three percent of Americans said they approve of the job the president is doing, while 45 percent said they disapprove. That’s virtually unchanged from an early April survey in which Obama’s approval/disapproval split was 51 percent to 47 percent. The poll is one of the earliest indicators of how Obama’s image has been affected during one of the worst weeks of his presidency.
