Charles Blow: "I Have A
Right To Not Own A Gun
And Still Feel Safe"

Real Clear Politics, by Ian Schwartz

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 1/9/2013 11:14:29 AM

Charles Blow, of the New York Times, and Republican commentator Margaret Hoover discuss the power of the National Rifle Association in Washington and gun regulation on the Tuesday night broadcast of CNN´s "Anderson Cooper." CHARLES BLOW, NEW YORK TIMES: I think when we talk about gun control and we only talk about gun owners as the only people involved in that equation, that is the wrong frame. I have -- you have a right to own a gun. I have a right to not own a gun and still feel safe in this society.

Comments:
Here´s another delusional leftist wacko. I´m sure all the criminals in New York will be anxious to know he is a good mark.

He starts out saying that he has the right to not own a gun and still feel safe, then he starts talking about not having a gun and being safe. Feeling safe and being safe are two different things. He has every right to feel safe. However, it is not my responsibility to make him feel safe. It is NOT the government´s responsibility to make him feel safe. As to BEING safe, it is still not anybody´s responsibility but his own to arrange for him to be safe. You do not have a right to "be safe". Whether or not you are safe is more a matter of the decisions that you make. For example, I would recommend that he not go to Chicago because he is unlikely to be safe there (despite having very restrictive laws regarding gun ownership). On the other hand, if he were to go to Kennesaw, Georgia, he would probably be very safe BECAUSE they require the head of every household to own a gun.

Charlie my boy, you do have a right to not own a gun and in fact you have (somewhat) of a right to feel safe, but I can assure that you are NOT AS SAFE as those who do own a gun. Now if that works for you it certainly works for me. I think all those opposed to guns should have signs in fron of their homes saying that that home is a gun free zone!

Stabbings are way up in merry ol England where they banned guns. The criminals also sue their victims if the victims try to defend themselves and the state backs up the criminal.

Since we know the democrat party is a criminal organization they want what England has.

Sigh. Nobody has a right to any kind of guaranteed outcome in life. Heck, the Left won´t even let us guarantee every person conceived the right to be safe from being killed in the womb by their own mother, and Blow wants the right to ´feel safe´ without owning any kind of self defense? Awww, isn´t that cute...

Charles: Try being informed instead of just opinionated.

Feel Safe - I´d suggest Charles needs to move to a Gun Free area of Chicago. He is free to FEEL anything he wants, but he isn´t free to tell me how I feel.

The Declaration of Independence says we have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Keeping the first two requires a knowledge of firearms...the third is up to you; you have a right to the pursuit, not the happiness/safety itself. That´s my judicial ruling for the day.

Sorry for the 2nd post but I am sitting in a middle school that is currently getting new security measures and equipment. I would like our staff to have more protection than a stapler if someone happens to get into our building with a gun. Just imagine if a few people were armed in that school instead of just sitting there waiting to be picked off like turkeys at a shoot.

Sure Mr. Blow, you should feel safe. But, with or without a gun, is crime going to stop? If legislation could end crime, murder would have ended millennia ago. Gun-banning legislation will not stop assaults and murders using firearms. So some people would like the protection of a handgun in addition to the police. If you prefer to not have a gun, I suggest awareness of surroundings and caution.

Charles, every right you enjoy, including freedom and the pursuit of happiness derives from the Constitution of the United States, which was established after hard fought and won wars by good people with guns. Those rights remain after many subsequent wars fought and won by good people with guns. Police are mostly good people with guns, but they are not always around when you need them. There are MANY other good people with guns, and you are safer as a result thereof. You take the guns away from the good people and you will certainly not be safer, no matter how you feel.

Charles, I´m going to type this real slowly and use small words so you can understand. Nobody and I do mean nobody is insisting that you have a gun. Your fellow travelers are however insisting that nobody should have them just because they don´t want anybody to have one. Do you see the difference here? And as other posters have stated, the Constitution does not guarantee your right to "feel" or not "feel" anything or anyway. It does most certainly guarantee the right of citizens to bear arms.

Opposition to President Obama´s healthcare law is close to its all-time high as the reform reaches its fourth birthday. Secretary of State John Kerry called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday morning to protest insults the Israeli defense minister directed at the Obama administration this week, the State Department said. In a speech at Tel Aviv University on Monday, Moshe Ya’alon criticized President Obama for having a weak foreign policy, and said Israel could no longer rely on the United States to lead nuclear negotiations with Iran. “Secretary Kerry spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu this morning. And he protested to him his concerns about these comments,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters Wednesday. The U.S., Psaki reaffirmed, maintains an “unshakable

President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he thinks Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick “would make a great president or vice president.” Obama and Patrick, both Democrats, are friends and close political allies. The two men have campaigned for each other, with Patrick acting as a surrogate for Obama nationally during the 2012 presidential race. Patrick has said clearly that he intends to return to the private sector when his second term as governor is up at the end of the year and will not run for president in 2016. But he has not ruled out a run for office in the

First Lady Michelle Obama will be accompanied by her children and her mother on her trip to China, which begins today. But she won´t be accompanied by the press. "Michelle Obama’s trip to China starting on Wednesday will be nonpolitical, the White House says, a ´people-to-people exchange´ emphasizing the importance that both nations place on education. As if to underscore the point, no reporters are traveling with the first lady, and she does not plan to give interviews while there," reports the New York Times. The White House is defending the first lady bringing her family along for the ride by saying

Ellen DeGeneres was a completely slavish toady to President Obama as he appeared on her show to sell Obamacare -- not to young people, but to mothers. The president made his pitch to "especially all the moms out there who may have young people – 26, 27, do not have health insurance, but they think they’re invincible and nothing’s ever going to happen to ‘em – what we’ve said is you never know what life is going to throw at ya."

Michelle Obama arrived in China on Thursday for a weeklong visit that will steer clear of politics and instead focusing on education and community. [Snip] On Friday, she is to spend the day with Peng Liyuan, the wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, something which diplomats hope will build bridges between the two countries. ´I think this is a very good opportunity to improve the China-U.S. relations, as the first lady can represent the soft side of diplomacy,´ said Wang Dong, a political scientist at Peking University´s School of International Studies. ´Michelle Obama herself has been accomplished in areas such as

College basketball can wait. Did you know that March is actually National Nutrition Month? Today, First Lady Michelle Obama urged Americans via her "Let´s Move!" initiative to challenge their family members to eat one new fruit or vegetable per week in March to faithfully observe the occasion. "March is National Nutrition Month and you can celebrate by challenging your family to try a new fruit or vegetable each week," First Lady Michelle Obama said in an e-mail to supporters today. Never mind that there were less than two "each weeks" left in National Nutrition Month when the e-mail challenge was

Warm temperatures, colorful wildflowers. What´s not to like, about early signs of spring? Climate scientists at NASA say these early signs could be tied to global warming, and the consequences are troubling. 9NEWS talked to NASA scientist Dr. Compton Tucker at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. He said that on average, the last frost of the year is happening about five days earlier than it did just five decades ago. Tucker said his conclusions are drawn from a fleet of Earth-observing satellites that have been monitoring our planet for more than 40 years. That satellite data combined with

First lady Michelle Obama will not take questions from reporters or give interviews during her tour of China that begins today, and members of the press corps who usually follows the first family everywhere have been banned from the trip. The resulting picture is one of an expensive, taxpayer-funded vacation for Mrs. Obama, her two daughters, and her mother – and not the official good-will journey the White House has promised. White House press officials won´t comment to MailOnline about whether the ban on media interviews applies equally to American journalists and Chinese reporters. ´How does this comport with the
