Charles Blow: "I Have A
Right To Not Own A Gun
And Still Feel Safe"

Real Clear Politics, by Ian Schwartz

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 1/9/2013 11:14:29 AM

Charles Blow, of the New York Times, and Republican commentator Margaret Hoover discuss the power of the National Rifle Association in Washington and gun regulation on the Tuesday night broadcast of CNN´s "Anderson Cooper." CHARLES BLOW, NEW YORK TIMES: I think when we talk about gun control and we only talk about gun owners as the only people involved in that equation, that is the wrong frame. I have -- you have a right to own a gun. I have a right to not own a gun and still feel safe in this society.

Comments:
Here´s another delusional leftist wacko. I´m sure all the criminals in New York will be anxious to know he is a good mark.

He starts out saying that he has the right to not own a gun and still feel safe, then he starts talking about not having a gun and being safe. Feeling safe and being safe are two different things. He has every right to feel safe. However, it is not my responsibility to make him feel safe. It is NOT the government´s responsibility to make him feel safe. As to BEING safe, it is still not anybody´s responsibility but his own to arrange for him to be safe. You do not have a right to "be safe". Whether or not you are safe is more a matter of the decisions that you make. For example, I would recommend that he not go to Chicago because he is unlikely to be safe there (despite having very restrictive laws regarding gun ownership). On the other hand, if he were to go to Kennesaw, Georgia, he would probably be very safe BECAUSE they require the head of every household to own a gun.

I´m sure that Charles Blow feels very safe, his gun-carrying bodyguard sees to that...

Charles you are an idiot. You feel how you feel. You have no ´right´ to force someone else to make you feel a certain way.

Charlie my boy, you do have a right to not own a gun and in fact you have (somewhat) of a right to feel safe, but I can assure that you are NOT AS SAFE as those who do own a gun. Now if that works for you it certainly works for me. I think all those opposed to guns should have signs in fron of their homes saying that that home is a gun free zone!

Remember the police are only minutes away when only seconds count.

Stabbings are way up in merry ol England where they banned guns. The criminals also sue their victims if the victims try to defend themselves and the state backs up the criminal.

Since we know the democrat party is a criminal organization they want what England has.

Sigh. Nobody has a right to any kind of guaranteed outcome in life. Heck, the Left won´t even let us guarantee every person conceived the right to be safe from being killed in the womb by their own mother, and Blow wants the right to ´feel safe´ without owning any kind of self defense? Awww, isn´t that cute...

Charles: Try being informed instead of just opinionated.

Feel Safe - I´d suggest Charles needs to move to a Gun Free area of Chicago. He is free to FEEL anything he wants, but he isn´t free to tell me how I feel.

The Declaration of Independence says we have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Keeping the first two requires a knowledge of firearms...the third is up to you; you have a right to the pursuit, not the happiness/safety itself. That´s my judicial ruling for the day.

If feeling safe could in any possible way actually make you safe, why would you choose to feel any other way?

Sorry for the 2nd post but I am sitting in a middle school that is currently getting new security measures and equipment. I would like our staff to have more protection than a stapler if someone happens to get into our building with a gun. Just imagine if a few people were armed in that school instead of just sitting there waiting to be picked off like turkeys at a shoot.

I´d like to see Charles Blow argue with some urban gang bangers about his "right" to feel safe without a gun. In fact, I´d like for him to be dropped off in South Chicago about midnight Friday and then he can pontificate about his rights and see how that works out.

Reply 30 - Posted by: coyote, 1/9/2013 1:51:18 PM     (No. 9107262)

Sure Mr. Blow, you should feel safe. But, with or without a gun, is crime going to stop? If legislation could end crime, murder would have ended millennia ago. Gun-banning legislation will not stop assaults and murders using firearms. So some people would like the protection of a handgun in addition to the police. If you prefer to not have a gun, I suggest awareness of surroundings and caution.

Reply 31 - Posted by: 901AtTheRiver, 1/9/2013 1:56:13 PM     (No. 9107282)

Charles, every right you enjoy, including freedom and the pursuit of happiness derives from the Constitution of the United States, which was established after hard fought and won wars by good people with guns. Those rights remain after many subsequent wars fought and won by good people with guns. Police are mostly good people with guns, but they are not always around when you need them. There are MANY other good people with guns, and you are safer as a result thereof. You take the guns away from the good people and you will certainly not be safer, no matter how you feel.

Reply 32 - Posted by: The Architect, 1/9/2013 2:02:51 PM     (No. 9107303)

Charles, I´m going to type this real slowly and use small words so you can understand. Nobody and I do mean nobody is insisting that you have a gun. Your fellow travelers are however insisting that nobody should have them just because they don´t want anybody to have one. Do you see the difference here? And as other posters have stated, the Constitution does not guarantee your right to "feel" or not "feel" anything or anyway. It does most certainly guarantee the right of citizens to bear arms.

Remember a leftist is that way until they are robbed at gunpoint, then somehow they magically become conservative and get a gun.

Some people are just morons and don´t know anything...we have here a couple of examples of the latter.

Yes, you have that right but your safety is ensured by good people carrying guns.

I know that Mr. Blow is a liberal with little mental capacity and no understanding of how the world works but stupidity is not an excuse.
Mr. Blow you are under the mistaken assumption that anyone outside your little bubble thinks you have any credibility or integrity but your hypocray is too much to pass up. No one cares what you oppinion is if you are unhappy with the country do us a favor leave (and take that idiot Piers Morgan with you) go to the EU you will enjoy the lack of rights and socialist justice you find there.

MY RIGHTS are mine at birth and derive from Nature and Nature´s God, not the Constitution. The Constitution guarantees my rights WILL NOT BE INFRINGED BY A TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENT. It is an important distinction.

Charlie doesn´t want to own a gun.
And doesn´t really want other citizens to own guns.

But watch him squawk if it became illegal for people like him, or employers like his, to have access to armed security.
