| A deal to give New York one of the toughest gun control laws in the nation is being negotiated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who, sources said Tuesday, is hoping to announce the plan Wednesday during his State of the State speech in Albany. Cuomo hopes to jump-start the 2013 legislative session with a big deal that could dramatically alter gun control laws across the state.

Good, Cuomo. Its already illegal for residents of New York City to own any kind of firearm, so much much more illegal can you make it? Planning to bring back the rack? Drawing and quartering? The iron maiden?
And, by the way, no one with any brains registers a firearm. If I had one, which I don´t, I would never register it, that is, if I had one, because of the downwind danger of confiscation. Not that that worries me, of course, since I don´t own a firearm. Honest.

For the season, ad-supported cable as a group has opened up a bigger ratings advantage over the Big Four – and has beaten the broadcasters in the 18-49 demo on a regular basis in a handful of timeslots. President Barack Obama´s bid to renew a ban against military-style assault weapons narrowly won the backing of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday and headed to the full Senate, where it appears certain to fail. On a party line vote of 10-8, the Democratic-led panel approved a bill to renew a ban similar to one that expired in 2004. The measure would also limit high-capacity ammunition clips to 10 bullets.

This administration certainly loves drones, but even that ardent passion has limits. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Tuesday put a stop to production of a medal that was to be awarded to drone operators, and not a moment too soon. It wasn’t just the idea of the Distinguished Warfare Medal that offended good sense. The real outrage was ignited by the goofy idea to give it precedence over medals awarded for bravery and valor.

The pop hearthrob was initially treated by doctors backstage for up to 15 minutes before returning to finish the show. However, after the gig ended, he was taken to an undisclosed London hospital for a thorough medical examination. As Winter Storm Saturn heads farther east into the Atlantic Ocean, the rain and snow mixture in the Mid-Atlantic States will come to an end Wednesday night. Mayor Bloomberg was booed yesterday as he walked in the annual St. Patrick’s Parade in the hurricane-ravaged Rockaways. The jeers grew so loud toward the end of the Queens parade that mayoral candidate and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn appeared to break away from the mayor to march separately. A spokesman for Quinn later said she always intended to walk separately from the mayor.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Newtown killer Adam Lanza may have launched his murder spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School as an “act of revenge,” the Daily News has learned. A close friend of Lanza’s mother told The News that the troubled boy was a target of relentless bullying when he attended the Connecticut school years ago. “I think Adam felt betrayed by the school and this was his act of revenge,” said Marvin LaFontaine, a friend of Nancy Lanza’s. “Nancy told me he was being picked on at school.
