| Oh to have been a fly on the wall for this one. In the wake of Al Gore´s Current TV being sold to Al Jazeera, the Islamist world´s equivalent of MSNBC, Geraldo Rivera was reminded of Gore´s holier-than-thou attitude the last time they met. (audio clip after page break)-Rivera described their encounter to Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol on Rivera´s radio show (h/t for audio, Brian Maloney at mrctv.org) -- RIVERA: Let me tell you, I gotta tell you a quick story about the last time I was with Al Gore.

And which network is it that is making an attempt at reporting news?
But of course, if you are Al Gore, the last thing that is important is actual news.
Geraldo doesn´t thrill me either, but his career was better served by being on Fox than by staying at NBC.

I remember, way back in the day when Gore was running hard against Bush, and some network news crew was following Big Al (though not nearly so big as now) around his hotel and he was knocking on the door of some poor schlump who worked for him, and with a very morally superior attitude, saying I AM UP and where are YOU? Just looking down on someone he had bought and paid for. I got a whole new vision of Al that day. I would HOPE the man realizes, rich as he may be, what contempt he is now held in. And I would HOPE it bothers him---just think. He could have been our President.

Massachusetts prosecutors are dropping charges against a disgraced former Newton elementary school teacher who had been accused of sexually assaulting three children, saying they’re content to let him serve out a 45-year federal child-porn sentence — and that the victims’ families didn’t want to force their children into painful trial testimony. David Ettlinger, 35, will not be prosecuted on charges he abused two children in Suffolk County and one in Middlesex County, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley and Middlesex District Attorney Gerard T. Leone said in a joint statement today. “Given the length of the defendant’s federal sentence,

IRS attorneys have asserted in internal documents that the Fourth Amendment does not protect email and that a warrant is not needed to plant a GPS location tracker on a car in its owner’s driveway. In documents obtained from the IRS by the ACLU under the federal Freedom of Information Act and posted on the website Wednesday, the agency’s attorneys adopt an extremely aggressive posture toward the requirements the Fourth Amendment might place on its criminal investigators who want to read email or text messages, or use GPS location tracking. “The Fourth Amendment does not protect communications

The State Department has acknowledged that five U.S. personnel killed in Afghanistan, including 25-year-old diplomat Anne Smedinghoff, were on foot when they were attacked by a suicide bomber, and not in an armored vehicle, as officials had told bereaved relatives earlier this week. The violent deaths of U.S. diplomatic personnel — and the State Department’s changing account of how they died — harken back to the debacle in Benghazi, Libya, where Islamist extremists killed four Americans in assaults on the U.S. diplomatic compound on Sept. 11. “We are able to clarify at this point that they were

Terry McAuliffe, the Democratic front-runner in the Virginia gubernatorial race, once made an outlandish claim that would make Mitt Romney cringe. At a debate during his failed 2009 campaign, McAuliffe declared he “created over 100,000 jobs—good-paying jobs with benefits and good wages. That’s what I’ll do as governor.” A Democratic rival scoffed that McAuliffe apparently had created more jobs than Microsoft´s Bill Gates. McAuliffe’s campaign on Wednesday did not respond directly to questions about whether he stands by the 100,000 jobs—the same number Republican presidential nominee Romney struggled to defend in the 2012 campaign.

Jay-Z blasted back today at critics of his and wife´s Beyoncé´s recent trip to Cuba in a new song. The scathing song, ´Open Letter´ calls out the politicians who questioned the legality of the fifth anniversary vacation, which was approved by the Treasury Department, when the rapper says, ´Politicians never did s**t for me, except lie to me, distort history. They wanna give me jail time and a fine. Fine, let me commit a real crime.´ The song also includes lyrics boasting of his friendship with President Obama, adding: ´Obama said, ´Chill you´re going to get me impeached´

WASHINGTON— Gun control supporters have won the first Senate showdown over restricting firearms, rejecting an effort by conservatives to derail a package of gun curbs before debate could even begin. The 68-31 vote gave an initial burst of momentum to efforts by President Barack Obama and lawmakers, mostly Democrats, to impose gun restrictions following the December carnage at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. Gun control supporters needed 60 votes to block the conservatives. The legislation would subject more firearms buyers to federal background checks, strengthen laws against illicit gun trafficking and increase school safety aid.

Jay-Z has finally broken his silence over the controversy about his trip to Cuba — and of course he did it in rap. In a new song, “Open Letter,” released via his Web site Thursday, the superstar is defiant, self-pitying — and eager to let you know how cool his vacation was. I done turn Havana to Atlanta ~ Guayabera shirts and bandanas ~He then gets political, suggesting that the uproar over his travels is rooted in snobbery against the multi-millionaire’s housing-project origins.(Snip) Then some name-dropping and angst over the trouble he may have caused his high-placed friends:

The former first lady, 91, has instead asked the chairman of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation to represent her at the London service Wednesday, her spokeswoman said. ´Mrs Reagan is heartbroken over Baroness Thatcher´s death and would really like to be there in person to pay her respects,´ the spokeswoman said. ´Unfortunately, she is no longer able to make that kind of a trip,

Welcome to a brave new "national conversation" that proposes not simply to redefine the family, but to eliminate it. MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry recently shocked millions with her brazen TV promo spot urging us to get rid of the idea that kids belong to their parents or to "private" families. She presses us to replace it with a "collective" notion of children: "Kids belong to whole communities." Clearly, we are entering a new phase in family breakdown. In the earlier phases, leftist policies cultivated unrestrained sexual license, abortion and single parenting.

During a conversation about gun violence on MSNBC this morning, Vice President Joe Biden explained that there was a growing group of gun owners that might not understand guns as well as hunters. “There is a whole new sort of group of individuals now who – I don’t know what the numbers are – that never hunt at all,” Biden said. “But they own guns for one of two reasons, self-protection or they just like the feel of that AR-15 at the range. They like the way it feels.” Biden imitated holding a weapon and added, “You know,

Decrying the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as way too complex, he warned the acting Medicare director that Obamacare is "so complicated and if it isn´t done right the first time, it will just simply get worse."

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. Some conservatives have called on Obama to give up golf, especially since popular public tours of the White House have been canceled because of

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.
