Why So Serious? Is
Conservative Despair
Justified?

PJ Media, by Andrew Klavan

Original Article

Posted By:Judy W., 1/8/2013 6:15:35 AM

So last week, in what was perhaps a moment of madness, I posted a request on my Facebook page: Tell me your political predictions for the year. Among the more restrained answers: “Hyperinflation,” “Civil War,” “financial collapse,” “terribly awful things.” Optimist though I am, I can’t help feeling there’s something to this downhearted consensus. After living through the most peaceful and prosperous half century that any nation has ever experienced in the history of humankind, it seems impossible to believe we would re-elect a mediocre reactionary out to “fundamentally transform” our success into failure. But we did,

Comments:
This is a great, thoughtful piece and you won´t get anything out of it by just reading the bit that´s posted here. Also, at the end Klavan presents three trends that might be reasons for some optimism.

George Will takes the view that Democrats made a huge blunder in the cliff deal. Liberals apparently didn´t realize that it´s impossible to finance their social welfare programs without much higher taxes on the middle class.

Will enough Obama voters wake up to the fact that they have been played for chumps by Obama and the Democrat Party? Will they realize that Obama and the Democrat Party pose a genuine threat to the future of America and our children? Will they finally realize that everyone can´t be on the government teat, either as a public service employee or an entitlement parasite?

Obama getting re-elected is only half the equation. The other half is that there were enough zombie voters to put him back in.

Reply 6 - Posted by: geo11, 1/8/2013 7:24:44 AM     (No. 9104466)

The Democrats are rigging the system. They are allowing more illegals into the country with the ability to vote, they have taken over the ballot box thru voter fraud, vote machine manipulation, creation of a dependency population and dumbed down electorate. The GOP does not stand a chance unless it addresses these problems.

Reply 7 - Posted by: BarryNo, 1/8/2013 7:56:58 AM     (No. 9104504)

Everything that I´ve looked into seems to indicate that the Dems have a lock on National Elections for the foreseeable future - and possibly on loc al elections as they get bolder. This is entirely through massive election fraud. I´ve been able to talk to people in both Conservative and Liberal voting districts and Conservative Districts were generally massively interested in defeating Obama, while Liberal voters were largely apathetic - many hadn´t even paid attention to the fact that election day had come and gone. This does not jive with reported numbers, not to mention dozens of districts in critical swing states where Obama reportedly got 100 percent of the vote.

´Why so serious?´

Because there is only one solution that I can see to this tyranny. And that´s MY opinion.

The article is a good read, and his three ending points are strong, however...

The liberal-progressives/communist have a long history of denying reality. The fact that 52% of the voters supported He who must not be named to me indicates that a great segment of our citizenry join in this self deception regarding reality. I know that there were vote-fraud issues, but when no one contest a fraud, has a fraud truly occurred? How do you know?

Federalism may save us, but only if we can clear the lifeboats from the vortex that will be created as the failed ship of state sinks.

It is so bad now that the net immigration from Mexico is near zero.

Fatherless children, Obamacare, unemployment, loss of manufacturing base, crooked CEOs and Wall Street sharks, free housing, national debt, a weakened Military, liberal courts, green energy fools in agencies and media lies will overwhelm us.

Without societal collapse and rebuilding, we are done.

until some of the elected republicans in congress are vocal long enough and loud enough about the reality of washington politics the low info voter will not know that he/she has options. most people still listen to the free and well known networks and read their local paper (all liberal). the ignorance out there is astounding and republican leaders must talk and talk and talk about what is going on. eventually, they will be heard IF they will do that. unfortunately, the love of power and fear of losing their job may well keep most of them silent.

I agree with Klavan, and I´d like to add the following "point #4"- with apologies to L-dot alumni who have read this "Barbaric Truism" for many years as I have repeated it almost ad- nauseum...

#4- "Liberals always overreach- ALWAYS."

We offer candidates who articulate a compelling vision of the future not a return on to the past. Obama´s vision of the future is straight out a 1968 graduate seminar. Unfortunately for many voters Romney´s was from an Ozzie and Harriet rerun.

RE #17: True, liberals always overreach. Unfortunately, each time they overreach they set a new line of departure from which to launch their next offensive, incrementally advancing their cause. It has taken over 150 years for them to get us to this point. They will never stop.

Agree #19, but this time is rather different. Look at events in Europe: as socialism/communism has impoverished the countries and weakened their defenses, Islam has been able to take over.
I believe the Free World is in crisis.. and our Congress has "the love of power and fear of losing their jobs" (thanks, #14) .. that´s why so serious.

Klavan ... another "Reasonable Man".

The tyranny of reasonable men is how we got into this mess. Give an inch here, go along to get to a larger goal there, push back instead of break the mold ... reasonable men ALWAYS have a ready platitude for why our outrage is unreasonable and not "helpful". Reasonable men talk down to us like we´re idiot children even as they hand us a shovel reassuring us there really is a pony under all that failure. Just Keep Digging

The Tyranny Of Reasonable Men is the seduction of fear. Step out of line, the Man take you away ...

Klavan is telling us to go along to get along.

Thank our Lord the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence (at the risk of their lives) did not quail and become "reasonable".

The question I have been asking for the past 4 years is: "Are we Weimar Germany in 1932, France in 1788 or Russia in 1914?". Yes, "reality was on their side" too, but I don´t want to have to go through what they went through before things got better. I really worry about the next few generations.
The saddest part is that it all avoidable, but the low information voters don´t understand that.

Mr. Kalgan overlooks a complicit Republican Party leadership, either by design or by incompetence, who ends up supporting the destruction on the basis of "compromise", without having an opportunity to weigh the real impacts of what they do. They just go along to get along, with apologists along the way touting their genius to satiate the complainers.

If you believe the news stories, they chickened out of voting for a new Speaker, despite the evidence of Boehner´s discomfort, incompetence in being able to work with zippy.

The despair is because of the recognition that there realy aren´t anymore good guys.s now.

Fracking is wonderful but up to the states on whether it can used. NY decided they needed to rewrite the rules and are still going through a seemingly endless review process. TX decided their rules already covered the process and have doubled their oil production from 1 million bpd to 2 million. OH hasn´t made up their mind. Once you get oil and gas to the surface, you still need to pipe them to market. The feds do have some say in permitting pipelines, so even in TX they have to wait for approvals.

Good piece and not too long - even the inveterate headline-and-intro one graph posters may read it!

#17´s point is good. But if the majority of the voters subscribe to what the Liberals are giving (not selling) them, there could be no pendulum swing.

In the meantime, I am thrilled when Obie and the missus muff it in their own "mediocre reactionary" way. I like to think that each overreach puts another nail in their political coffin.

Reality may be on our side, but unfortunately, the dominant, ineradicable characteristic of every left winger is the inability to grasp reality, or, if by some fluke that lefty does suddenly come up against reality, he will immediately ignore and dismiss it, and retreat ASAP to his fantasy world.

I ´despair´ because the theory that America has survived worse times therefore we will survive this new direction is not really very comforting. I would rather not see if the interment camps of WWII will be repeated or exceeded. I don´t want to find out what happens if this government decides to surpass the Nazis in their zeal to confiscate every legal firearm. We have had currency crisis before and changed all the money, but not at this scale. The difference this time is now we have a mass brainwashing technology that will gleefully promote every disaster as great TV and it´s audience will clamor for more of the things that created the disaster.

The problem Mr. K. is that time is not necessarily on our side for the repair of the damage. Outside forces are encroaching as well as a change in the character of our citizens. Many of the people who vote in this country do not share our heritage and our past spirit means nothing to them. In addition, our press has failed us, and our Congress is not far behind.. oh, have I mentioned our Supeme Court decision on Obamacare?
Under the circumstances, it is a little hard to regroup.

All this talk about the Liberals overreaching, maybe very valid.

According to Dr.Jean Twenge, noted Psycologist, in her study on narccism,

´In the long-term, what tends to happen is that narcissistic people mess up their relationships, at home and at work, though narcissists may be charming at first, their selfish actions eventually damage relationships."

You can almost see it happening now with this president.

Klavan´s analysis is flawed because it assumes eventual rational action. The universal (over both time and space) response of socialists to the failures of socialism has been to apply stronger socialism. Obama’s re-election is proof of the dominance of that mechanism even here.

Sorry: I,like a few Ldotters above, am not so optimistic.

1. Fracking: If the EPA doesn´t shut it down outright, the rights will wind up with China and other foreign lenders to prop up a weak dollar and stave off collection of a soaring debt. Then the gas will be liquified and shipped overseas.
2. Federalism: A packed SCOTUS will neutralize states´ rights and unbridle the federal behemoth - all in the name of "fairness".
3. Reality: In politics, perception is reality. The media controls perception, and we know which side they´re on.

No, this is no time to take solace. It is time for hard choices what to do next. Our forefathers pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. The graves of the Greatest Generation testify to their sacrifice. What shall be our burden? Are we up to the task?

Voter fraud was marginal at best. More importantly, R´s controlled the Executive and Legislative Branches of virtually every battleground state! Simply, Romney was a horrendous candidate; feckless, inept and unprincipled. Stone cold reality!!!
Larger point is that the GOP leadership is a DC creature and viscerally hostile to conservatives. Their candidate will always be a lefty jackass like Schwarzenegger, Christie, Romney etc. Until the rank and file grasps this, the GOP will continue to get their kiester handed to them.

Fracking is definitely a very likely game-changer.
Which is a major reason for libnuts and greenho´s to fight it.

The U.S. is and will be the "Saudi Arabia" of natural gas... and soon of oil...
it has long been the Saudi Arabia of coal.

People in the U.S. will quickly get sick of the taxes and regulations of Obamacare.
They will hate the declining quality of life.
They will demand more choices and a vast prosperity.

Liberoids cannot deal with these reactions.
Only conservatives can deliver.

When Obamacare starts its oppressive rule in Jan. 2014, the rotten economy etc will
help us do the traditional thing in the midterm elections.
The party of the incumbent prez loses in the second term midterms.

We will soon own the House, Senate, and probably by 2017 the WH, too.
People who are upset now will enjoy the changes coming eventually for us.

We have a lot of silly doomsday posts continually.
There is no accuracy to them.
Just the usual whining.
Bet a number of them did not vote for Romney.
Look what you reap!

Posters #7 and #17 hit the nail on the head.

#7, Joseph Stalin, who was reputed to have said “The people who cast the votes don´t decide an election, the people who count the votes do” is on the short list of dictators and political strategists revered by leftists.

This list also includes Karl Marx, Mao Tse Tung, propaganda minister Joeseph Goebbels, Saul Alinky, and Richard Cloward/Francis Fox Piven. These people all share at least one trait: they have a talent for knowing how to tear down existing societies, but no clue how to build better ones.

#17, the leftist motto is “Always overreach.” This applies to the size and scope of government, any labor negotiation, expanding people’s “rights” and diminishing their responsibilities, and reducing our ability to defend ourselves as a nation and as individuals.

Leftists will never stop trying to push the boundaries of high taxation, overregulation, entitlements, and socially acceptable behavior, even after they reach the point of unsustainability.

If the leftist motto is “Always overreach,” their anthem is a ballad by Warren Zevon entitled “Laywers, Guns and Money.” The lyrics describe the misadventures of an irresponsible bloke who recklessly keeps pushing the limits.

“Well, I went home with the waitress
The way I always do
How was I to know
She was with the Russians, too

I was gambling in Havana
I took a little risk
Send lawyers, guns and money
Dad, get me out of this”

When the s**t inevitably hits the fan, guess who gets to be Dad?

The Heritage Foundation announced the resignation Friday of senior policy analyst Jason Richwine, co-author of a controversial report critical of the Senate’s immigration reform bill. After Heritage issued the report this week, news articles pointed out that Richwine had argued in his Harvard dissertation that there was a long-standing difference between the IQ of white Americans and immigrants. Heritage had said earlier that those views were not those of the foundation. WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service is apologizing for inappropriately flagging conservative political groups for additional reviews during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS unit that oversees tax-exempt groups, said organizations that included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications for tax-exempt status were singled out for additional reviews. Lerner said the practice, initiated by low-level workers in Cincinnati, was wrong and she apologized while speaking at a conference in Washington. For that reason, presidents rarely speak off-the-cuff, and their every word is carefully chosen for exactly the message the White House wants to convey to the public. The White House on Wednesday stood by its story that the Obama administration remained unsure exactly who was responsible for the attack on the U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi nearly five days after it occurred even though new revelations show Ansar al-Sharia’s direct involvement. Gregory Hicks, the deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Libya and a self-described whistleblower, testified before a Congressional committee Wednesday that the body of Ambassador J. Christpher Stevens was missing for hours during the attack after being dragged out of the diplomatic post in Benghazi.

Northwestern University continued to stumble over diversity issues this week as Mexican students voiced disagreement with a campuswide letter that advised students not to celebrate Cinco de Mayo by engaging in racially-offensive activities, such as eating tacos and drinking tequila. The letter was sent to students via e-mail, and published in The Daily Northwestern last week. Leaders of Alianza, a Latino student group, and the Associated Student Government called on students to remember that Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla. It is not a day to throw a sombrero-themed party, they said.

When it became clear last fall that the CIA’s now discredited Benghazi talking points were flawed, the White House said repeatedly the document were put together almost entirely by the intelligence community, but White House documents reviewed by Congress suggest a different story. ABC News has obtained 12 different versions of the talking points that show they were extensive edited as they evolved from the drafts first written entirely by the CIA to the final version distributed to Congress and to U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice before she appeared on five talk shows the Sunday after that attack.

She weathered Whitewater. She made it past Monica ?Lewinsky. Now Hillary Clinton is hoping to beat the rap on Benghazi and make it to the White House. The Clinton political machine is in full campaign mode already, preparing for 2016 and hoping voters forget by then that she had a key role in the Obama administration’s handling of the terror attack. But that’s becoming more difficult as the GOP appears to be laying the groundwork for tying Clinton to Benghazi and making sure it stays front and center in the next campaign. Some of the testimony from State Department whistleblowers

"Every year for the past few years, on Mother´s Day, I´ve gone--I´ve taken a delegation--into Afghanistan or Iraq, we´re alternating now, now Afghanistan--for Mother´s Day to say thank you to our moms and, by the way, our grandmothers, who are serving there. Some young grandmothers. But, nonetheless, grandmothers. To also thank all of our troops for what they do to protect America´s families. I won´t be going this particular weekend because we don´t have--you know, under sequestration, we don´t have codels."

Fans of Glenn Beck are complaining about what I wrote yesterday about his speech at the National Rifle Association convention, where he used a giant image of Michael Bloomberg photoshopped into what appeared to be an image of Hitler with his arm raised in a Nazi salute and wearing an armband. The Beck crowd now tells me that it wasn’t Hitler’s picture into which the New York mayor was transposed but that of Communist leader Vladimir Lenin. They say that means I owe Beck an apology along with the Anti-Defamation League and others who were also outraged by it.

John McCain is going to release a bill that would dismantle cable as it´s currently constructed, Brenden Sasso at The Hill reports. The legislation would force cable companies and satellite TV providers to give consumers an option to pick and choose which channels they get. This is called "à la carte programming," and it´s long been a dream of consumers who only want a handful of channels. McCain tried to introduce similar legislation in 2006 and it went nowhere.

The families of Navy SEALs killed in an August 2011 shoot-down of a helicopter in Afghanistan spoke at a press conference Thursday morning, citing a number of grievances, including an allegation that the Pentagon invited a Muslim cleric who “disparaged in Arabic the memory of these servicemen.” In addition to blasting the Obama administration for the mission and for an official investigation they deemed a cover-up, the families complained that “military brass, while prohibiting any mention of a Judeo-Christian God, invited a Muslim cleric to the funeral for the fallen

Many conservative groups complained during the election

A Catholic priest presided over a service Thursday to give proper names to the 45 babies whose bodies were found in the West Philadelphia abortion clinic of Dr. Kermit Gosnell. He is charged with killing five people - a patient and four viable babies that prosecutors say were born alive. He has also been charged with performing late-term abortions that violate Pennsylvania’s 24-week limit on the procedure. “People have names, people deserve names. The name expresses the person. The name recognizes that there is a person there.” said Father Frank Pavone during the

A new deadly “sex superbug” has been found in two individuals in Hawaii, after surfacing in Japan in 2011. H041, a form of gonorrhea that is resistant to all antibiotics presently available, is considered as deadly as AIDS, and is much faster at killing people. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention wants upward of $50 million from Congress to find an antibiotic that will kill the virus, which has also been found in California and Norway. Alan Christianson, a doctor of naturopathic medicine, said:
