Good article but a few factual errors. It IS legal for civilians to own machine guns if registered (and approved) with the ATF and a $200 transfer fee (tax stamp) is paid. The 1986 Firearms Owners Protection Act (FOPA) simply banned transfer and ownership of those registered or made after May 19, 1986... Of course that made the supply very limited and the price very high.

This ban if enacted would stop the production and sale of most modern firearms in the USA. A result of that would wipe out most of the US small arms industry along with the related industries that supply all sorts of firearms related accessories and supplies along with the many thousands of well paid American jobs that now exist in those industries. Of course the liberal Democrats could care less about all that, because those industries are considered to be a big conservative Republican constituency group.

feinstein occasionally poses as a moderate, but almost invariably walks back or qualifies her reasonable sounding pronouncements. In other words she specializes in publicity stunts that enable her supporters and her to say she is a fair minded non-partisan. The truth is, contrary to beliefs by some on this site, feinstein very rarely "gets it right." feinstein is a far left elitist hypocrite.

There´s a petition on the WH site to impeach her for attacking the US constitution, and our constitutional right to bear arms. If you care, sign it.

#1, as alluded to by #4, they can´t ban the machineguns (or any arms) and they know it. What they did was decide they would no longer accept the tax and registration on any machineguns manufactured after May of 1986. That´s why they lost the two court cases in the 7th and 10th circuits (in the early 90s) when they sought to prosecute two guys for failure to register. Basically the appeals courts said you can´t prosecute for failure to do something you no longer accept (register and pay the tax). That´s over-simplified but gets to the heart of both cases. The DOJ appealed to the USSC for about 12 days and then with-drew their appeal when they realized the basis for the decision at the appeals court level was such the USSC would agrer and then the decision would become law all over the land, not just in those two circuit court regions.
Needless to say, the LSM was very, very quiet about these decisions back then.

Although, at one time, I held the opinion that Diane Feinstein was one of the few liberals in congress who had a modicum of common sense in her cranium, her actions in the era of Obama are causing me to doubt that opinion more each passing day.

Her demeanor of late continues to give credence to the (wont go away) rumors that something nefarious is going on with the esteemed lady and her erratic behavior is because of skeletons in her closet of which Obama has knowledge and some control over.

Sen. "Fine Stein" has not lived up to that nom de plume - Sen. "Good Mug" might be more fitting, except that the passage of time has chipped away at that too.
