El futuro habla español
(The future speaks Spanish)

Washington Post Writers Group, by Kathleen Parker

Original Article

Washington - The new year has begun with an avalanche of Republican retrospectives: What went wrong? What must the GOP do? In attempting to navigate my own thoughts, I keep bumping into advice my father gave me a long time ago: “Learn Spanish. You will need it to survive in the world you will inherit.” (Snip) What was clear to my father even then is that our hemisphere could not long be segregated by language. Nor, apparently, can we be kept apart by borders, no matter how many fences we build or drones we deploy. Meanwhile, and not incidentally, our new, 113th U.S. Congress has welcomed

Comments:
This is an editorial that I am reluctant to post. However, all the do-gooders in the world can´t change the fact that to compete for the prized hi-tech jobs has nothing to do with color or nationality, but the ability to learn, grasp, and communicate the information in our native language to others. Even in my apartment complex, with the most efficient maintenance here, I doubt they understand me half the time we talk.

I like the Spanish language and culture; I even have a Spanish ancestor.

This is the USA. We speak English here. People who come here from other countries should learn to speak it.

Ever notice that the Japanese and Chinese can learn to speak English, but nothing south of US can seem to manage learning another language ?

People react the way you expect them to. As long as we cater to them, don´t expect different results.

I teach an almost entirely hispanic set of students and you should see how happy the parents are when their children get reclassified out of "English Learner" status.

I encourage them to keep up with their native language, but now being bilingual, they are truly blessed with an important skill.

My son works internationally and English is the lingua franca for the employees that come from all over the world.

Obama speaks no Spanish but he did offer reprieves to illegals. That is the essential point of this entire column though Kathleen doesn´t realize it. The GOP does need a coherent plan to deal with the vast number of illegals here in the USA and deportation is not feasible. Also, the Hispanics are lured just as easily to the welfare state as any other group. We need to overcome that too. Sigh.

Robert D. Marcus became chief executive of Time Warner Cable at the start of the year. Less than two months later, he agreed to sell the company to its largest rival, Comcast, for $45 billion. For that work, he will receive nearly $80 million if the deal closes, a severance payment that amounts to more than $1 million a day for the six weeks he ran the company before agreeing to sell. “It’s not unprecedented, but it is rare and troubling,” said Robert Jackson Jr., an associate professor at Columbia Law School. “There’s something stunning about such big paydays for such a small amount of work.”

Topeka, Kan. - The Rev. Fred Phelps, the virulently antigay preacher who drew wide, scornful attention for staging demonstrations at military funerals as a way to proclaim his belief that God is punishing America for its tolerance of homosexuality, died here on Wednesday. He was 84. (Snip) A disbarred civil rights lawyer who had once been honored by the N.A.A.C.P. and who ran for office repeatedly, and unsuccessfully, as a Democrat, Mr. Phelps seemed to accept the criticism if not relish it. “If I had nobody mad at me,” he told The Wichita Eagle in 2006, “what right would I have to claim that I was preaching the Gospel?”

Court deals Illinois
eavesdropping law final blow
Associated Press, by Michael Tarm    Original Article
Posted By: LittleHoodedMonk- 3/20/2014 8:23:51 PM     Post Reply
Chicago - Illinois´ Supreme Court declared one of the nation´s toughest eavesdropping laws unconstitutional, saying Thursday that the statute was so overly broad that it would technically make the recording of screaming fans at a football game a crime. The ruling is a final and decisive defeat for the Illinois Eavesdropping Act, which had made it a felony for someone to record conversations unless all parties involved agreed. The 1961 law violates free speech and due process protections, and is way too broad in scope, the court decided in unanimous decisions in two related cases focused on audio recordings.

If the left hopes to be victorious in the polls, they’d be smart to take a cue from Netflix’s callous Congressman-turned-Veep by inducing fear, ruthlessly rounding up voters and finding a worthless opponent to crush. Attention Democrats: You’re going to get crushed this November! (Snip) So Democrats, you have two options: One, get destroyed in November (Think meat being tenderized with a hammer.) Or, two: Ask yourself what would Frank Underwood do, and then start doing that. When Negotiations Go Wrong

For most professionals, negotiation is standard operating procedure: receive a job offer, respond with a counter-offer, and then engage in a little back-and-forth until the parties arrive at an outcome that satisfies them both. But sometimes negotiations go spectacularly awry. (Snip) Many observers suggest that, even in the age of Lean In, sexism was at play, especially given the request for maternity leave. Indeed, if W were a man and had asked for all the same sweeteners, minus the maternity leave, would he have been so handily dismissed? The words came out of my mouth before I could stop them. “I feel sorry for Obama,” I said. As my wife looked at me in disbelief, I quickly added a correction. “Well, almost.” Beset by failures at home and abroad, the president cuts a lonely and sad figure these days. His aura of grief reflects his profound loss. His worldview crashed headlong into reality, and reality won. Obamaism is dead, may it rest in peace. That’s sad for him, but hold the tears — his loss is mankind’s hope. If Obama wakes from his utopian visions and faces the

Health industry officials say ObamaCare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration. The expected rate hikes will be announced in the coming months amid an intense election year, when control of the Senate is up for grabs. The sticker shock would likely bolster the GOP’s prospects in November and hamper ObamaCare insurance enrollment efforts in 2015.
