| President Barack Obama is close to choosing White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew for Treasury secretary with an announcement as soon as this week, according to two people familiar with the matter. Selecting Lew to replace Timothy F. Geithner would also require Obama to install a new chief of staff, the first step in a White House staff shuffle for his second term. Many of the president’s senior aides may be taking new roles as the president recasts his team, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss personnel matters.

DALLAS- American Airlines is having computer problems that are causing widespread delays. Some passengers are stuck on planes while others can´t make reservations. "American´s reservation system is experiencing intermittent outages," an American spokeswoman said in a statement. "We´re working to resolve the issue as quickly as we can. We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience." Passengers are using social media to flood the airline with complaints. American Airlines spokesman Kent Powell said Monday that the airline is trying to resolve the issues as quickly as it can.

At least six are dead in Pakistan after a major earthquake hit the Iranian-Pakistan border region Tuesday, according to state-run Pakistan television. The U.S. Geological Survey put the preliminary magnitude of the earthquake at 7.8 and at a depth of nine miles, and Iran´s seismological center said it was centered near Saravan, a sparsely populated area about 26 miles from the Pakistani border. State-run Pakistan TV said at least six people were killed on its side of the border and at least 47 others were injured. Up to 1,000 mud homes were damaged, it added.
