| Paparazzi shots of Malia and Sasha Obama have been quashed by the White House after a photographer reportedly stumbled across the girls on a public beach in Hawaii. The images of the President´s daughters were taken last week while a paparazzo was actually waiting for singer Jessica Simpson to leave her vacation home. Secret service agents, who were accompanying the girls on their walk, immediately approached the photographer and asked for identification. They allowed the man to keep his camera but gave him a stern warning to stop photographing the first daughters.

Who are the "family friends"? Who paid for their vacation, American taxpayers? Everything about this family is a big secret, except the dollar amount for their vacations. This one was a whopping 7 million dollars.

All this is absolute baloney. Folks, you live in the White House and work for us, how dare any First Family freak out over even ordinary phoographs like this? I see they are not very attractive pictures but tough.

I have no burning desire to see sausage and maligner, but I do think taxpayers have the right to know who and what they are paying for on this vacation or any vacation.
They are no more special than any other elected official.
don´t care to see the photos,
i just want to know who and what taxpayers paif for on this vacation.

I am no fan of paparazzi, and I´m a big fan of the United States Secret Service, but the photographers should have said the following to the Secret Service agents who accosted them:
1. It´s a public beach 2. No, you may not see my identification.
The Secret Service is tasked with protecting their charges from attack, not with enforcing their whimsical notion of propriety on the rest of us. They should be politely but firmly discouraged from demanding identification from folks going about their lawful business in a public place.

I think they don´t want you to know there are ´friends´ with them and how many there are. Remember the uproar when Moo!chelle used several floors of the very expensive hotel in Spain (I think) for the hundreds of friends and SS agents. In fact, I think it took two hotels to hold all of them. They just want to avoid another uproar from the peasants. Will he have $1.5 billion/year to pay their expenses when he hopefully is back as a private citizen or will he write an EO or whatever to keep the $$ coming. Remember Klintoon continued SS coverage for Web´s little girl at taxpayer expense.

Like prior posters, I haven´t any need to see photos of BHO´s kids on the beach, and I don´t even have much of a problem with BHO asking (not demanding/requiring/intimidating) various press organizations not to publish such photos - especially as they are under 18.
However, the more important and most chilling aspect of this story is the part about the Praetorian Guard, I mean Secret Service, accosting the photographer, demanding identification, and "warning" him to not take photos. As prior poster pointed out photography of people in public spaces and places is not illegal, nor is it grounds amounting to "reasonable suspicion" that would even properly warrant such action.
Like it or not, BHO´s kids are public figures, he put them in that position. He has used them for various photo opportunities - including political events, and has invoked their names to promote his political agenda. They are minors, if he would rather they not be photographed on a beach or elsewhere, he has the means and access to secured locations to do so.
Contrary to the desires or many, he is not our King, nor is he God, him, his wife and their kids are (ideally - if not in actuality) are expected to abide by the same rules as you and me.

WASHINGTON — President Obama went out for a round of golf Saturday afternoon, his second weekend in a row to hit the links at a course at Joint Base Andrews. The president golfed with White House aides Marvin Nicholson, Joe Paulsen, and Michael Brush. Last Saturday, the president played golf at the same course with Nicholson, Brush, and friend and Chicago businessman Marty Nesbitt. The outing marked his first time on the golf course since the sequester cuts went into place on March 1. The president also took in the Syracuse-Marquette NCAA tournament basketball game

No doubt there are parents who have frank, frequent, open and easy discussions with their teens about sex. I’ve never met any. I do know parents, however, who were stunned to find their 15-year-old’s birth control pills in her pocketbook. Or who came home early to discover junior and a girl they’d never met frantically buttoning up. Or who found out — when their children were grown — what really went on when Meghan said she was sleeping over at Ashley’s. Such sobering tales of teens snookering mom and dad caused mixed emotions in me — a solidly pro-choice

Last fall, Ginnette Powell traveled from her home in Boston´s Dorchester section to her old middle school in South Boston - a journey of just two miles, but one that covered a huge emotional distance. Finally, she was able to leave the painful past behind. Powell endured the explosive battle over desegregation in Boston in the 1970s. Tears come to her eyes when she talks about how it took her decades to return to the place where she never felt safe as an African-American seventh-grader."It was scary because of what you were going into, getting bricks thrown at your bus.

A few years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Lindalyn Adams was escorting visitors on a bus traveling down Elm Street near Dealey Plaza. “I was pointing out the John Neely Bryan cabin and the Old Red Courthouse, and suddenly I realized the whole bus was leaning towards the right as we were going close to the Texas School Book Depository, and the women [were] pointing and saying, “Is that? Is that? Is that?’” Adams recalled during an oral history interview. She knew, of course, what “that” meant. “That” was where Kennedy had been shot.

They’re big. They’re ugly. They’re noisy. And they’re coming. So get ready. The blockbuster brood of the periodical cicada, large insects that emerge en masse from the ground in 17-year intervals across the northeast, is on its way — and New York City’s largest public radio station is encouraging residents in Central Jersey and beyond to help track the invasion. “The whole idea came from our news director, Jim (Schachter, of Summit), who lives in New Jersey — he promised his wife that they would move from their home before the 17-year cicadas came back,”

The night began like many at Boorda Hall, a five-story barracks at Naval Station Great Lakes, the Navy´s premier training base on the shore of Lake Michigan in Illinois. Somebody announced a party, and the hard drinking and beer pong began. A 21-year-old Marine lance corporal, so drunk on rum and Mountain Dew she was slurring her words, went to look for Kyle Antonacci, a Navy seaman she´d been dating off and on. Antonacci soon texted his friend Mike Pineda to help him deal with her. Both men had sex with her that night. But what distinguished May 8, 2009,

The State Department team was delivering books to an Afghan school in the Qalat district of Zaul province when their convoy was hit by a suicide bomber, Secretary of State John Kerry said Saturday. "She was everything a foreign service officer should be: smart, capable, eager to serve, and deeply committed to our country and the difference she was making for the Afghan people," Kerry said of the slain official.

The Keystone XL Pipeline has emerged as a major issue in the Massachusetts special U.S. Senate election, with environmental groups committing nearly one-third of the $1.25 million in outside money already spent on campaigns. The biggest spender so far is the League of Conservation Voters, which has already spent more than $545,000 to help elect Democratic candidate and Rep. Ed Markey, who has a strong pro-environment platform. “Our field campaign is resonating with voters across Massachusetts,” said Navin Nayak, a political specialist for the group. “The people of Massachusetts want climate change champion Ed Markey representing them.”

Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

No one is more preoccupied these days with Hillary Clinton´s 2016 plans than the Beltway political class—not even the former presidential candidate herself. To hear some tell it, her decision will be dispositive for all other Democrats thinking of entering the race. And pundits and reporters aren´t the only ones positing the "The Hillary Factor": No less than the House Democratic whip, Steny Hoyer, told BuzzFeed, “I don´t know that anybody would run against Hillary…. If she runs, she clears the field.” It´s an understandable conclusion, given Clinton´s stature in the Democratic Party and her 70 percent

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
