| A yet-to-air reality show documenting a rapper, who has fathered eleven children by ten different women, has been slammed by critics who have branded it ´disgusting´ and ´negative´. All My Babies´ Mamas, set to air this spring on the Oxygen network, follows Carlos ´Shawty Lo´ Walker, 36, as he navigates family life in an affluent suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. But after a preview of the one-hour, fly-on-the-wall hit the internet thousands of viewers called for it to be scrapped, with many suggesting it plays on racial stereotypes. A Change.org petition, which has more than 20,000

I think okra just sold that channel - I thought the channel would be TLC - black shows all of the time. Stopped watching it and most others. I have the bundled tier and they are showing TV shows from the 50s. Comcast is constantly raising their fees and is rapidly pricing itself out of existence.

Too bad Obama´s free birth control pills weren´t available. I suppose the free condoms everyone was given in high school were thrown away. Or maybe they lost the instructions and just gave up trying to figure out how to use them.
It would be interesting to know the financial arrangements here. Does this hunk of African American manhood pay anything for the upkeep of his progeny? Is he quite certain that he is, in every case, the biological father? Are any of these outstanding young women on welfare? Are they employed or pursuing post-graduate degrees?
The proposed show, which certainly does not sound like stereotyping but rather a fairly typical mating pattern in this population, could answer such questions and more. Of course it normalizes and glamorizes a lifestyle that is largely for losers - but then, the show is principally directed to that audience anyway.

#17, that was uncalled for. Most people know that word is not used anymore unless a person is very old or trying to be nasty.
Anyway, this is certainly not a stereotype...it is unfortunately more the rule than the exception nowadays. Thanks to LBJ and the racist Democrats, the nuclear black family has essentially been destroyed. What is sad is that the people don´t see how the Dems have manipulated them, created a dysfunctional ovwrwhelming majority of people caught in perpetual poverty and underclass. The left recruited and paid off community leaders to keep the people in line and believing the Dems have made their lives better while placing the blame for their problems on the right. But it is the left that continues to destroy these people and they let them. The problem with this show is that it may be used to make it look as if these people´s behavior is acceptable or even to be looked up to!! Evil media...

I am confused. What part of the show was stereotyping? A large number of rap performers are black? A large percentage of black children are born to single mothers? Or, a large percentage of black fathers have children from various mothers?
How come there is no reporting or "attack on White-American families" that produce countless of reality shows with white teen age mothers with little education from "white trash" families, "red-necks" shooting, fishing, swamping, trucking, bidding on numerous strange items and the countless of other reality shows that paint white people as illiterate, toothless, marry their cousin, "Deliverence"-born bafoons.
These programs horrendously stereotype white people, and in particular those who own guns, live in rural areas, tend to be relgious (think of what BO said in one of his public speeches) and do not have access to all the freebies blacks have through welfare and affirmative action.

I don´t see what the scandal is about. Stereotypes happen because they have some basis in reality, otherwise they would not be held as believable stereotypes. They are like profiling - a shorthand or simplified description of a group of people based on commonly observed features. I think stereotypes can be misused if they are used, not as a guide to dealing with individuals, recognizing that individual exceptions occur but as a be all and end all in judging the other person´s character. Used that way, it would be both lazy and racist.
If you take stereotypes and look at the veracity of what it says about a community, embarrassing though it may be, these stereotypes inform on what others think of that community and can be used as a reflection of what is going badly in that community. For blacks, as long as they keep blaming others, they do not ascribe responsibility to those who are really destroying the community - those pushing for sexual irresponsibility and an entitlement mentality.

#19 - "That word" is making a comeback, and there´s no use plugging your ears and pretending it isn´t. Maybe it´s a good thing, too. Why shouldn´t we differentiate between blacks - decent people who marry, work, take care of their families and respect traditional American virtues - and the rapidly primitivizing trash that´s sinking into the squalor of decivilization? It´s an ugly word for an ugly thing.

The only comeback I have seen of that word is by people who claim to be "conservative". But real conservatives don´t engage in group-think. They judge people as individuals based on personal merit--not on irrelevant physical characteristics. Leftists, who historically are racist, are the ones that categorize people based on irrelevent characteristics and features and put people in boxes and label them. They use this group-think mentality to use people and pit people against each other for their own sick ideological agenda. Anyone who thinks it is okay to use such a word that is not generally accepted by people it is supposed to describe, especially in a negative connotation, likely has issues that may need addressing.

One of the first political issues negotiators must tackle in crafting an immigration reform bill is among the most important: what to name it. It’s a decision that will bruise egos, create legacies and deeply affect subsequent messaging battles. “Every time the bill is mentioned in the press, you either have a brand that´s positive or a brand that doesn´t mean anything or even hurts you,” said Frank Sharry, the executive director of the pro-immigration reform group America’s Voice. President Obama is eager to build public support for his health care overhaul in the few months remaining before its implementation, but waning enthusiasm from Democrats threatens his effort right out of the gate. Two-thirds of Democrats now believe Obama´s health care reforms will either hurt them personally or have no effect on their daily lives, a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday shows. In comparison, just 27 percent of Democratic respondents said the reforms would help them. The president has long struggled to convince independent and Republican-leaning voters that his health care blueprint would lower premiums and expand insurance coverage.

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
