´Promised Land´ fares
poorly at theaters

The Hill [Washington, DC], by Ben Geman

Original Article

Fracking gets natural gas out of the ground, but it isn’t bringing people into movie theaters. Big stars and political controversy didn’t translate into a significant box-office haul as “Promised Land,” a new movie exploring environmental concerns about the gas-production method known more formally as "hydraulic fracturing," fared poorly in its nationwide opening. The film, which Matt Damon co-wrote and stars in, took just 10th place at the weekend box office, with $4.3 million in ticket sales, according to The Los Angeles Times. The top weekend spot, with $23 million, went to the slasher flick “Texas Chainsaw 3D.”

Comments:
Awwww. Isn´t that a shame. s/o It shows you how pathetic our culture is when Texas Chainsaw was the top draw at the box office.

One of the financial backers for this movie was the United Arab Emirates--a big oil exporting nation.
Spread the word to any friends and family who still see movies.
$4.3 million for a weekend box office. Pathetic. Or, is this what a boycott looks like?

Pretty poor story - author made it appear as though people had no interest in seeing the story because they had no interest in ´fracking´. I´m thinking that enough people knew it was an attempt to make fracking look bad or dangerous and, knowing how much it could do for our ailing economy, simply weren´t willing to pay for yet another dose of liberal propaganda.

It was curiously promoted. The TV spots were so vague. The filmed seemed to lack a plot because they tip toed around the fact it was an anti-fracking propaganda picture.

Matt is learning that insulting half the nation while the other half is too busy spending welfare money at the strip joint and not at his stupid movies will always bite you in the butt.
Never go to a Penn, Clooney, Damon movie ever. Have you ever noticed how Tom Cruise does not bite the hand that feeds him, aside from the scientology thing. At least his movies are somewhat entertaining.

"It was curiously promoted. The TV spots were so vague."

The spots include a quick clip of what appears to be a grade school science project -- a model of a small town bursts into flames.

Of course the spots can´t be honest about the subject because the subject requires too much dishonest setup to be swallowed by the dupes. This tripe must be marketed with warmth, humor and good intentions.

You can´t make this stuff up.

Of course the left has spent the entire time since the original Chainsaw was made creating the dumbed down voter class they need to get elected so why should they even be surprised?

The media have hated him ever since he enthusiastically proclaimed his true and deep love for his wife on Oprah´s program -- he has neve bought into the current ironic post-modern culture and the MSM hates him for it.

I am in favor of any method of providing energy to the U.S. as long as sane enviromental standards are used. Oil rigs can be messy but that is what you get when you drill. Solar power and wind power are still decades away from being a viable source for energy. One interesting fact to me though is the number of small earthquakes that North Texas and Oklahoma are having now. I do not know if they are a small by-product of fracking but they did not occur that much until fracking increased. My great-grandfather moved from Alabama to Northeast Texas in 1880. He was a merchant. He moved to the only county in Northeast Texas that had no oil. If he had moved 70 miles more to the south and had been farmers, they would have probably been on top of an ocean of oil. That is why I snack on peanut butter instead of pate de foix gras.

A widely-held notion on the left holds that Republicans and conservatives just “love” Russian President Vladimir Putin. Groups like Media Matters for America hold up conservative commentators like Fox News Host Bill O’Reilly and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as examples of this phenomenon, but Media Matters is confusing making unfavorable comparisons between Putin and President Barack Obama for admiration for Putin. But now the left, which has been eager for weeks to claim that the GOP is deeply enamored with the revanchist president of an expansionist Russia, now has a real champion for Putin’s aggression in Europe: Rep.
