Are Democrats done raising taxes on the American people? "No," says House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). "We can raise more revenue," says Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.). And Sen. Dick Durban (D-Ill.) says "there are still deductions, credits, special treatments under the tax code which ought to be looked at very carefully." The three Democrats took similar questions about additional tax hikes on different Sunday talk shows. Interviewed Friday by Bob Schieffer, host of CBS´s "Face the Nation," Pelosi was asked if the "revenue side" of the fiscal cliff is finished. Revenue means higher taxes to Democrats.
Comments: I truly don´t know how we are going to survive the next four years when the Democrats get done with us. There are just no words to sufficiently describe the outrage that they won´t even consider spending as the cause of our disastrous economic problems. It´s just breathtaking.
Just once, I wish one of these so-called reporters would ask each of these cretins: just how much are your worth, what percentage of your income do you pay and how much did you give to charity? Of course with Pelosi, her wealth derides not from income but from investments and thus, a lower tax rate.
When they start talking about the child tax credit I´ll begin to listen. I have not heard a single word from any of them about the fraudulent claims for children living in other countries as documented by an Indianapolis TV station last year.
REALLY!!!!!! these "people" are nuts, of course they have their money, benefits and connections so they don´t feel the pinch like the rest of us. Our Government leaders make me sick, May God, if he still cares what happens to this country, help us all.
Idiots think they are bending over big business, but instead are sticking it to the average tax-payer. Want to save some money, start with the Tax Credits, allow these credits to lower your tax rate to ZERO, not give you a refund when you didn’t even paid taxes…CRAZY!
1. Why should we listen to people who voted to exempt themselves from the criminal penalties for insider trading that would have any of us in jail? 2. Where´s the list of their reported net worth, year by year, since elected to Congress? 3. How much above the legally-required tax rates have these "not taxed enough, the rich ´can afford it´" [which BTW is NOT the test for tax rates] pre-deleteds paid themselves? What? Not such great "tax-patriots" after all? Really?
It should not be surprising that liberal Democrats say that they want to raise more taxes, as it is central to liberal Democrat and progressive political philosophy that more and more money must be thrown into social welfare programs, to expand their base of voters from the more and more people who they want to become dependent upon those social welfare programs. Once more then half of the voting population is dependent upon those social welfare programs the liberal Democrats will continue to win every future elections, that is until the money runs out.
I agree, Nancy, there are a lot of tax deductions that should be eliminated.
How about eliminating the tax deduction for union dues? And the tax-exempt status of unions?
How about eliminating the deduction for state and local taxes? Dem voters in high tax states like NY, NJ, MA, CA and IL will love you for that one! Right now, taxpayers in low/no state tax states are subsidizing the high tax states
This from the people that inserted $76 Billion of "Tax Extenders" into the fiscal Cliff Bill three minutes before the vote. I would append the repeal of those "Tax Extenders" to the Sandy Relief Bill and deliver that Bill back to the Senate to Senator Durbin with a copy of this article.
This should be no surprise. The only surprise is that McConnell and Boehner are stupid enough to believe that the tax issues have been "settled". The Dems said weeks (months?) ago that the "cliff" debate would only be an opening salvo.
The GOP "party of the rich" and "party of stupid" tags are verified once again. (The Democrat "party of evil" tag is a given.)
I guess the RNC could do something like remind voters that everyone taxing them, just voted themselves a pay raise. It would be good to remind the average viewer how much these corrupt ´lawmakers´ get in salary AND special benefits.
The escalting war between MSNBC’s Al Sharpton and Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly took an unexpected turn last night when O’Reilly revealed that he had donated $25,000 to Sharpton’s charity to help pay for Christmas gifts and dinner for underprivileged families in Harlem. Earlier today, Sharpton offered some choice words for O’Reilly in an interview, but this afternoon on his show he really let the Fox host have it. Sharpton pointed that like O’Reilly, he never mentioned the donation until now. “Bill doesn’t realize it, but this story actually reveals what kind of person he is… Bill gave that money privately
Fox TV Studios has pulled out of talks to produce a 4-hour-long NBC miniseries about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The two sides had previously been in contact over producing Hillary, starring Diane Lane as the eponymous politician. But Deadline reported this afternoon that “with the two sides far apart, and were never able to bridge the gap on the deal terms.” “The economics of TV movies and miniseries are challenging, which is why very few production companies take on such programs these days,” explained Deadline. “That includes NBC’s own studio, Universal TV, which would not produce NBC’s longform projects, including
It’s clear by now that if conservatives are ever going to even begin to roll back the overt, ongoing and worsening lawlessness of the Obama administration, they’re going to have to go over, through, or around the Republican party first. The GOP “leadership,” as presently constituted, is nothing more than the lesser half of the Permanent Bipartisan Fusion Government, content to munch its cud and occasionally low in the direction of constitutional propriety, and then resume its own modest but lucrative role in fertilizing the “two-party” system. As evidence, consider Bob Costa’s piece today on Senator Ted Cruz, and the
Speaking Thursday at a joint appearance with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Secretary of State John Kerry admitted that there were “many al Qaeda leaders now operating in Syria”—where President Barack Obama decided two months ago to provide military support to rebel forces fighting alongside al Qaeda to overthrow the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Asad. Asad is a member of the Alawite sect, which is a derivative of Shiite Islam; the Syrian rebels are predominantly Sunni, and al Qaeda is Sunni. According to the CIA, Assad’s Alawite sect represents no more than 16 percent of the Syrian population, while 74 percent
Egypt´s president on Friday suggested US President Barack Obama´s condemnation of a deadly crackdown on Islamists may "encourage violent armed groups". "The presidency fears statements not based on facts may encourage violent armed groups," it said in a statement responding to Obama´s condemnation of Wednesday´s carnage when police moved to disperse Islamist protest camps. "The presidency appreciates US concern for developments in Egypt, but it wished it could have clarified matters," said the statement published by the official MENA news agency. "Egypt is facing terrorist acts aimed at government institutions and vital installations," the statement said.
The Washington Post´s article detailing the fourth amendment abuses by the NSA got some push back from the administration who attempted to "edit" the article before publication. The internal audit referenced in the article was obtained by the WaPo from Edward Snowden. The details of the audit indicated repeated and growing privacy violations by the NSA, violations which included obtaining thousands of American citizen´s communications records and using methods of information collection that were later deemed unconstitutional by a court. The Post was able to interview John Delong, NSA director of compliance for the article and they were initially
There´s much talk about Chris Christie as the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 (yes, already). Christie is certainly gearing up for a run, and has begun by attacking potential GOP rivals. But while moderate Republicans like Christie for 2016, he is their version of what Rick Perry was for conservatives in the 2012 race: a locally successful governor whose attributes will not stand up well on the national stage. Perry had much to recommend him as a national contender: staunch conservatism on most policy issues, and an economic record that even liberals would find attractive. But his Texas
Hillary Clinton has worked her way back in the news by making racially-charged remarks to the American Bar Association’s annual meeting in San Francisco. There is, she claimed, an ongoing “assault on voting rights.” But the only “assault” going on is a liberal assault on the truth about efforts to protect the integrity of our election process. Clinton’s polemic claims fit nicely within a calculated political strategy adopted late last year. At a December meeting in Washington, D.C., three dozen of the most powerful liberal advocacy groups providing money and manpower for Democratic candidates hammered out three agreed-upon objectives for
CBS ace Sharyl Attkisson is tweeting about the status of her Freedom of Information Act request for materials related to White House activities related to the night that four Americans died in the terrorist attack on the US facility in Benghazi, Libya. The FBI has denied her request. Sharyl Attkisson ? @SharylAttkisson FBI denied the Freedom of Info requests I made re: Benghazi...and I appealed the denials a long time ago. President Obama has tried to defend his health care plan lately by criticizing Republicans for trying to roll back ObamaCare without offering any alternatives -- despite the fact that Republicans have offered several. In a White House news conference a week ago, the president said: "They used to say, ´well, we´re going to replace it with something better.´ There´s not even a pretense now that they´re going to replace it with something better." Moments later, Obama elaborated, saying "they used to say they had a replacement. That never actually arrived, right? I mean, I´ve been hearing about this whole replacement thing for
The Senate’s most senior lawmaker said Friday that the intelligence community is still not being truthful about its snooping activities and how they may be picking up communications from Americans, and vowed to hold hearings when Congress returns from its summer vacation. “The American people rely on the intelligence community to provide forthright and complete information so that Congress and the courts can properly conduct oversight,” Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, Vermont Democrat, said. “I remain concerned that we are still not getting straightforward answers from the NSA.”
There´s a certain page on Facebook people of faith do not “like.” Created in February, the “Virgin Mary Should’ve Aborted” Facebook page originally included this controversial description, presumably speaking from Mary’s perspective: I´m here to explain what really happened in biblical times, since the bible is full of lies. My rapist´s offspring has destroyed the planet and brainwashed millions. Rage-quitting is for loose buttholes. Bible-believing Facebook users who are members of the group, “Catholics & Protestants Against FB Religious Discrimination” led the online fight to have the page taken down -- and succeeded. But, they didn’t have long to celebrate.
Trenton — In case anyone had any doubts on where Gov. Chris Christie stands on climate change, he made his position crystal clear this afternoon: It´s real and it´s a problem. In vetoing a bill (S2946) that would have required New Jersey to stay in a regional program intended to curb greenhouse gases — a program Christie plans to leave by the end of the year — the governor said "climate change is real." He added that "human activity plays a role in these changes" and that climate change is "impacting our state." Christie´s words are his strongest to date in regards to
It’s hard to fathom how or why our administration ever thought the Muslim Brotherhood saw democracy as other than a means to an end — and a particularly repellent one at that — in the first place. It’s not as if the MB is subtle. They have proclaimed who they are since their founding by Hasan al Banna in 1928 and have not wavered in any significant way since in their global jihadist goals. They have also been unstinting in their massive misogyny, homophobia and rigid support of Shariah law über alles (quite literally über alles, since the Brotherhood were —
The images of three youths police say murdered Melbourne baseballer Christopher Lane have emerged. The Oklahoma teens, who face first-degree murder charges, have been named as Chancey Luna, James Edwards and Michael Jones, News.com.au has reported. But their parents yesterday protested their innocence. Jennifer Luna, whose son is suspected of firing the fatal shot, claimed her son was at home saying: "My son is not that way. My son is a good kid." Earlier today, former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer has urged Australian tourists to boycott the US in the wake of the shooting murder of the Melbourne baseball star.
"So, how many black friends do you have now?" It´s a question I get asked a lot, ever since I set out five years ago to find out why I, your typical middle-class white person, had no black friends at all. I do have black friends now, actually. Several. But I rarely offer that information when asked, because to ask white people how many black friends they have is to pose the wrong question. (Snip) It helps if white people know how to be better white people.
Waiting to Exhale author Terry McMillan alternately uses Twitter to bash the GOP and share warm and fuzzy life tips with her followers. Today´s social media message falls squarely in the former camp. McMillan, an Obama apologist of the highest order, lashed out at former Gov. Sarah Palin, promising violence should the two women ever end up in the same place at the same time.McMillan previously compared the GOP to Hitler and called Mitt Romney a sociopath.
OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Australian man attending an Oklahoma college on a baseball scholarship was shot and killed in what police described Monday as a random act of violence by three "bored" teenagers who decided to kill someone for the fun of it. Christopher Lane, 22, of Melbourne, was found dead Friday while visiting the town of Duncan, where his girlfriend and her family live. Three boys, ages 15, 16, and 17, are in custody and face a court appearance Tuesday afternoon.Duncan Police Chief Danny Ford said Monday a woman called 911 after she saw Lane stagger across the road
During an exclusive to web interview with “This Week,” Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said Sarah Palin — after having hastily stepped down as Alaska’s governor in 2009 – might be able to rehabilitate her political career by winning a Senate race in her home state next year. “I think the way Palin would possibly resurrect herself, if that’s the right word, or rehabilitate herself I guess a better way of putting it, [is] run for Senate in Alaska in 2014,” Kristol said. “I’m not urging that, I’m just saying if I were her adviser I would say ‘take on
When Craig Mazin first met his freshman roommate, Rafael Edward Cruz, he knew the 17-year-old Texan was not like other students at Princeton, or probably anywhere else for that matter. (Snip) By Mazin’s account and those of multiple members of Princeton’s class of 1992, the Ted Cruz who arrived as a college freshman in 1988 was nearly identical to the man who arrived in Washington as a freshman Republican senator in 2013: intelligent, confident, fixated on conservative political theory, and deeply polarizing.
The military judge presiding over the case of the Fort Hood shooter has blocked several key pieces of evidence that prosecutors said would explain the mindset of the soldier accused in the 2009 rampage. On Monday it was revealed that the judge has banned prosecutors from giving any speculation into Major Nidal Hasan’s motive in the shooting that left 13 dead and 30 others wounded, including the belief that he felt he had a ‘jihad duty’ to carry out the attack. Prosecutors had asked the judge to approve several witnesses and various evidence to support what they allege motivated Hasan
NewsBusters reported Friday that counter to claims by the liberal media, conservative talk radio host Sean Hannity fired the Cumulus network due to his concerns about how the owners are managing their stations. Data obtained by NewsBusters show that Hannity is actually right, and that in the key demographic of people aged 25 to 54, Cumulus has lost roughly 50 percent of its listeners since buying the stations in September 2011. Here are the numbers: •New York WABC down 45.3 percent • Los Angeles KABC down 61.9 percent • WLS Chicago down 47.6 percent • KGO San Francisco down 57.4 percent • WJR Detroit down 50.9 percent •
WASHINGTON — Watch out, Bo — there’s a new dog in town. The White House says the Obamas have added a second dog to the first family. Her name is Sunny, and she’s a Portuguese Water Dog — the same breed as the Obamas’ other dog, Bo. The White House says that breed works well for the Obamas because of family allergies. Sunny was born a year ago in June in Michigan and arrived at the White House Monday. She’s expected to join Bo for evening walks and the occasional Oval Office huddle with the president. The White House says
The U.S. government has decided privately to act as if the military takeover of Egypt was a coup, temporarily suspending most forms of military aid, despite deciding not to announce publicly a coup determination one way or the other, according to a leading U.S. senator. In the latest example of its poorly understood Egypt policy, the Obama administration has decided to temporarily suspend the disbursement of most direct military aid, the delivery of weapons to the Egyptian military, and some forms of economic aid to the Egyptian government while it conducts a broad review of the relationship. The administration won’t
