The 19-year-old son of U.S. Sen. Rand Paul was charged with underage drinking and disorderly conduct after being arrested over the weekend at North Carolina´s Charlotte Douglas International Airport, authorities said. William Hilton Paul was arrested Saturday following a flight from Kentucky to North Carolina, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff´s Office in Charlotte.(Snip) The senator´s office released a statement calling the issue a private family matter. "Sen. Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena, however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy
Yes, but the timing is suspicious to me. There were articles just this morning touting a potential Rand Paul presidential run. What a coincidence that his son gets arrested (was TSA involved?) the very same day.
Not saying his son wasn´t drinking under age on the plane, but who ratted him out? The airline that broke the law and served him? TSA?
This is a non-issue. If CNN wants to sling mud as opposed to being political, they could have gone after Gore Jr or any one of the Kennedy clan. Remember when the Clintons declared Chelsea "off limits".
I wonder why the article isn´t prefaced with "alleged". Never mind he´s not a dem. I hope they did alcohol test. He´s old enough to serve and die for his country but not drink. Something is wrong with this picture.
Odd how this came down, don´t you think? How long is the flight from KY to NC? Less than an hour.
I am Delta Platinum and often fly in First. Many times, you can´t get a pre-flight drink, and once airborne, they don´t serve until the flight has been underway for 15 minutes or so. Refills are slow, but I am not drinking to get inebriated, so on a Friday trip home, two drinks is my limit for a flight.
There isn´t enough time on that flight to:
1) get yourself drunk 2) cause trouble because you´re drunk
This smells like a set-up. I didn´t read where the flight crew was cited for serving a baby-faced minor alcohol.
So this is how first lady Michelle Obama imagines Americans should spend their Thanksgiving dinner: Talking about Obamacare. That’s her call to supporters, via an email invitation to Democratic Party backers, The New York Post reported. “As you spend time with loved ones this holiday season, be sure to talk with them about what health care reform can mean to them,” she said, in the email that contained 14 talking points that could be raised. Among her touted topics, The Post reported: Talk about the need to sign up for Obamacare. And, ask guests to bring W2 tax forms, or
Ronan Farrow has made it crystal clear that he´s going to fit in perfectly as a new MSNBC host. On Thanksgiving Eve, he tweeted to his 150,000 followers, "Thanksgiving: because genocide is a lot more festive 392 years after the fact": [Tweet] As if that wasn´t disgraceful enough, he followed it up Thursday with this: [Tweet] He´ll fit in perfectly with the rest of the America haters at MSNBC, won´t he?
During a recent stay in Berlin, I visited the old headquarters of the East German Ministry of State Security, better known as the Stasi. The building, in a suitably bleak part of what used to be East Berlin, is now a museum devoted to the communist surveillance state. The upper floors display some of the tools of that surveillance -- miniature cameras, listening devices, files on everything -- that the German Democratic Republic used to control every aspect of its citizens´ lives. But the first floor of the Stasi Museum is not about spying. Instead, it is devoted to the propaganda that East German bureaucrats used to foster socialist consciousness
It´s a slice of life you don´t often hear about. Shortly after a manager at a Pizza Hut franchise in Elkhart, Indiana, announced that he was fired for refusing to open on Thanksgiving Day, the company is offering him his job back. Tony Rohr, 28, had worked for the chain for more than 10 years. When he refused to open on Thanksgiving Day this year and force his employees to work, he says, he was told to write a letter of resignation. Instead, he wrote one explaining why the store should remain closed. "I said, ´Why can´t we be the company
It wasn’t exactly the disastrous rollout of Obamacare, but 10 years ago this week, Washington was consumed with another scandal, dubbed by one CNN newscaster as “Turkey-gate”: Was that a fake turkey President George W. Bush was photographed with during his first surprise visit with troops in Iraq? The photo resulting from the visit was iconic — possibly history’s most famous picture of a cooked turkey. It’s certainly the most misunderstood. Despite being a real turkey, meant as a decoration for the chow line, Mr. Bush’s political opponents seized on it, erroneously claiming it was plastic.
At least four people were injured by gunfire on the South Side late Wednesday and early this morning, according to police. About 1:15 a.m., someone in a black car yelled gang slogans and opened fire at a 27-year-old man in the 100 block of West 63rd Street, police said. The 27-year-old was struck in the forearm and taken in good condition to St. Bernard Hospital, police said. Slightly earlier, about 1 a.m. a 43-year-old man was shot in the ear during a struggle with his girlfriend of East 78th Street and South Creiger Avenue, police said. He was treated and
WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Speaker John Boehner´s legislative recipes for the nation tend not to agree with every voter, but the congressman from West Chester believes his recipes for Thanksgiving dinner will be more of a bipartisan success. After TIME magazine published a Thanksgiving essay by Boehner that reveals he celebrates the holiday by making "what I consider to be the best turkey brine around," Boehner posted his Thanksgiving recipes for brined turkey, stuffing and creamed spinach on his House of Representatives website. He also posted a photo of himself buying the turkey for Thanksgiving in Tipp City, Ohio. According
Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks, but not a time to rest for politicians running for reelection. Less than a year before the midterm elections, Senate candidates in both parties are busy raising money and defining themselves to voters over the Thanksgiving holiday. Dozens of incumbent lawmakers and candidates issued holiday emails on Wednesday, with more to come on Thanksgiving. Though most don´t explicitly ask for contributions, nearly all include a link to donate. The holiday is also a time for candidates to show their softer sides in a bid to cozy up to would-be supporters. Kentucky Democratic Senate candidate
TAMPA — Thanksgiving is an American food holiday, but that hasn’t stopped the owners of Piquant Epicure & Cuisine from throwing a little French flavor onto their holiday takeout menu. In addition to the traditional turkey, Rosana Rivera and Ricardo Castro are offering customers a silky Chardonnay sauce with cream instead of lumpy gravy and a fresh cranberry gastrique in place of the stuff that comes out of a can. A decadent side of potatoes gratin will substitute for boring mashed spuds, and a classic French green bean almondine will replace the traditional goopy holiday casserole. Piquant is among a
On Wednesday, President Barack Obama´s White House politicized Thanksgiving to promote the reauthorization of the SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) or "food stamps" as part of the farm bill at a time when a record number of Americans are receiving assistance. In an email, the White House urged Americans sitting down for Thanksgiving Dinner to remember: "For decades, Congress has authorized SNAP in a bipartisan fashion through the Farm Bill. They don´t have to do it in a way that hurts children, seniors, veterans, and vulnerable families. Learn more, and pass it on." The White House linked to a report
On Saturday, I got a call from my sister Barb. It was the call you tell yourself is never going to come — or you convince yourself it’s so far out there in the future that you can safely keep it out of sight and out of mind. My 86 year-old mother Grace was in the hospital, and it was deadly serious. Remnants of denial caused me to not even think about bringing overnight clothes until I was two-thirds of the way from Cincinnati to Columbus. Mom’s temperature had hit 104 degrees overnight. She was rushed early Saturday morning to
It was a fight to the death, but in this case there were two winners. Barack Obama continued a White House tradition today when he pardoned two turkeys destined for the Thanksgiving dinner table. But it was his 12-year-old daughter Sasha who almost stole the show today in a bold outfit including red jeans and green Doc Marten boots with yellow laces. Two birds from Badger, Minnesota, named Popcorn and Caramel ended up as the lucky pair pardoned by Obama, although only the former got to meet face-to-face with the President. Obama joked at the ceremony that his office carries
Those who wrote the PPACA legislation were much more brilliant than most conservatives have given them credit for. They have hidden a landmine in the way it all works that will ensure an eventual takeover of the entire health care industry by the government. Let me first clarify my professional interest. I have been a vendor of software and services to both insurance companies and providers, and therefore have a deep understanding of the health care industry and what the ACA will do to it. I do not work for any insurance companies or medical providers, nor do I own stock
Iranian officials say that the White House is misleading the public about the details of an interim nuclear agreement reached over the weekend in Geneva. Iran and Western nations including the United States came to an agreement on the framework for an interim deal late Saturday night in Geneva. The deal has yet to be implemented. The White House released a multi-page fact sheet containing details of the draft agreement shortly after the deal was announced. However, Iranian foreign ministry official on Tuesday rejected the White House’s version of the deal as “invalid” and accused Washington
It is no secret that the Democrat party is hemorrhaging support in the wake of the disastrous ObamaCare rollout. As the Administration warns that the website will not be fully operational at the end of November, nervous Democrats are expected to try to separate themselves from Obama and his flawed health program. Politico´s Mike Allen was on MSNBC this week, saying that they are "hearing" that Democrats will be very aggressive against the program in Congressional oversight hearings next week. If Politico is "hearing" something, it means Democrats are trying to leak the information to the public ahead of the
President Obama's weekly remarks: Hi, everybody. On behalf of all the Obamas — Michelle, Malia, Sasha, Bo, and the newest member of our family, Sunny — I want to wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. We’ll be spending today just like many of you — sitting down with family and friends to eat some good food, tell stories, watch a little football and. most importantly, count our blessings. And as Americans, we have so much to be thankful for.
LEE COUNTY - The Lee County Sheriff´s Office has arrested a juvenile in connection with two random attacks reported in Lee County. Traveshia Blanks, of Fort Myers, is charged with two counts of battery on a person 65 years of age or older. On Tuesday around 3:50 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a group of people who randomly attacked an unsuspecting victim (Snip)We talked to students from nearby Cypress Lake High School who didn´t seem to think the teens did anything wrong. "I´m not gonna say it´s not right and it´s not fun, because it is fun," said
Economics: It seems the official position of Pope Francis is that the free market is a wicked enemy that must be restrained. With all due respect, he´s mistaken. The free market has been a heavenly blessing. Two days before our American Thanksgiving, the Argentinian pontiff, in his first apostolic exhortation, called the free market a "new tyranny." "Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world," he wrote in the Vatican report. Claims of free-market success, he said, have "never been confirmed
President Obama is concerned these days with the "young invincibles," the 20-somethings he needs now to buy into his program, but who probably won´t because they feel (you guessed it) invincible and think they will stay so for quite a long time. But it takes one to know one, as the irony is Obama himself is, or once was, an ultra-invincible, unstoppable and doing what people said couldn´t be done. Could he become world famous on the strength of one speech? Yes, he could. Could he beat Hillary Clinton, a president´s wife and a feminist icon? Yes, he could. Could he
President Barack Obama told a Democratic fundraiser in Beverly Hills Tuesday that he has accomplished "as much, if not more" than any other president."Over the last five years, thanks to the leadership of Nancy (Pelosi) and Harry (Reid) and legislators who are here, we have accomplished as much, if not more, than any time in our history -- saving an economy from a Great Depression; revitalizing an auto industry that is producing better cars and has come roaring back like nobody believed; doubling our exports; drastically reducing our dependence on foreign oil; doubling fuel efficiency standards; doubling our production of
In the wake of the Obamacare fiasco, President Obama’s poll numbers are collapsing in two industrial Midwestern states — the quintessential swing state of Ohio and his home state of Illinois. In Illinois, the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling found Obama’s approval rating falling to just 50–46 positive in a state he carried by 17 points just a year ago. His biggest drops in support came among women voters (only 50 percent positive) and Hispanics (only 51 percent positive). Without his overwhelming support among African-Americans (92 percent), his approval rating would easily be in the low 40s. The liberal website
Cher told her fans on Wednesday that she does not celebrate Thanksgiving. In fact, she appears to deplore the American holiday, calling in the “beginning of a great crime.” Cher said that the American settlers were guilty of taking land from native Americans who had no concept of property ownership and also intentionally infected them with smallpox. “You don’t celebrate the holiday I thought?” a fan asked Cher. “I DON’T,” Cher replied emphatically. She said that, to her, Thanksgiving is a day to see family, eat food together and watch a movie. “Not 2 celebrate the beginning of a GREAT Crime.” When asked
A new study of methane emissions finds that the U.S. is spewing 50 percent more methane, a greenhouse gas 21 times better at trapping heat than carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere than the Environmental Protection Agency previously assumed. Several factors contribute to the accumulation of methane gas in Earth’s atmosphere, such as the burning of fossil fuels and leaks from oil and gas refining and drilling, but one contender stands out above the rest as particularly repugnant: cow farts.(snip)According to the new research, livestock’s noxious flatulence accounts for a large portion of the methane gas being released into the atmosphere.
Reports of bias incidents at Vassar College that involved hateful messages left on students’ doors were actually elaborate hoaxes — and the perpetrator is none other than the student member of the Bias Incident Response Team, The Daily Caller has learned. This fall semester at the liberal arts college in New York saw a curiously high number of bias incident reports. [snip] The task force had one student member: Genesis Hernandez, who is transgendered and was also a vice president of the Vassar Student Association (VSA), the student government.
