| House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi shared her own idea Sunday on how to avoid a government shutdown should the Republican House and President Barack Obama find themselves unable to reach an agreement on raising the debt ceiling: invoke the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. Pelosi started the discussion on CBS’ “Face the Nation” by saying she didn’t believe raising the debt ceiling should be tied to spending cuts. “I don’t think these two things should be related,” Pelosi said. “I think that we should subject every dollar we spend, every taxpayer dollar, whether it’s defense or domestic

Comments: Anyone besides me think this is a pretty big deal? If Obama plays that card, it could be years before the Supreme Court rules on it and by then, who knows what kind of damage is done?
Plus even if SCOTUS rules on it, who´s to say they won´t rule on the side of Obama.

There´s a race to the top among liberals to see who the biggest nut job is. This is totally irresponsible for a high ranking member of congress to say.Do these people really take an oath to uphold the Constitution?
This other idea they´re working on to mint two platinum dollars and declare their value a trillion each is also absurd.
Maybe ´m just jealous because I can´t go to strip clubs, take free cash out of ATMs and stuff dollar bills down a strippers drawers.

The 14th Amd talks about public debt. Here´s the words:
The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurrent for payment of penions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave, but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.
So pinhead Nancy, how does this fit your messiah signing an E.O.?

All barking at the moon, not even close on this one.
Not one serious Constitutional expert in the country would deny that the House (Boehner) has control of debt ceiling increase.
If obama was a fat white guy (POTUS) he would have been impeached quite a while ago.

In Queen Nancy´s World, ´insurrection and rebellion´ are direct links to debt ceilings tied to spending cuts. Say what?

Adding to #5, Nowhere in the 14th amendment is the President given the power to arbitrarily raise the debt limit. It does give him the authority to ensure debt service is made.
#11, you are correct. It was to assure those nations that had sided with the union in the "Late Unpleasantness" (aka the War of Northern Aggression) that their debts would be made good and at the same time telling those that backed the confederate states to, politely put, shove it.

On his radio show this week, conservative talker Mark Levin said that Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, who on Tuesday claimed that opponents of same-sex marriage do nothing but “thump the Bible,” should stop degrading his audience. “Thump the Bible?” Levin asked. “Have I thumped the Bible once in an hour and a half on the air today? … Why are you putting down your audience? I thought you stood for the folks. And you sound like [President Barack] Obama, with the ‘clinging to their guns and religion’ line. You should show respect to your audience.”

On Dennis Prager’s radio show on Monday, conservative commentator Ann Coulter offered her takeaways from last weekend’s Conservative Political Action Conference held outside Washington, D.C., where Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul won the event’s presidential straw poll. Coulter, author of “Mugged: Racial Demagoguery from the Seventies to Obama,” explained how that happened, which led to her critique of the libertarian movement within college campuses and its antics. “’How did that happen?’ you’re wondering,” she said. “Ron Paul used to win every year because these libertarian

In covering the selection of Pope Francis I, many in the media speculated as to whether the new head of the Roman Catholic Church would take a more liberal theological position on homosexuality and abortion. But in his regular Thursday appearance on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show, Mark Steyn, author of “After America: Get Ready for Armageddon,” viewed that media speculation along with other “trivial” aspects of the coverage to be ridiculous considering the church has held those same beliefs for thousands of years now. “Well, you know, I think the papal coverage in the so-called serious media

On Rush Limbaugh’s radio show on Monday, National Review’s Mark Steyn explained why an incident involving a seven-year-old boy’s punishment and the subsequent reaction for chewing a Pop Tart in the shape of a gun is a sign the country is “doomed.” Steyn, author of “After America: Get Ready for Armageddon,” compared this generation of children, who may have felt threatened by the so-called Pop Tart gun, to the American generation that stormed the beaches of Normandy. “You’re doomed, America,” Steyn said. “You’re done for. Washington Post columnist and Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer on Tuesday criticized President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address as unrealistic and egocentric, arguing that the president made clear he is more concerned about his own image than the realities of governance. Specifically, Krauthammer suggested Obama’s call for legislative transparency was mere lip service that might even backfire on the Democratic Party. “One of the things that these red-state Democrats who are going to go up for re-election in the next year are scared to death about is precisely having to vote,”

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
