Great News: Obama’s Cash for
Clunkers Actually Hurt the Environment

PJ Media, by Bryan Preston

Original Article

When you have an administration run by pinheads who haven’t spent much time outside government, you get things like Cash for Clunkers. According to E Magazine, the “Clunkers” program, which is officially known as the Car Allowance Rebates System (CARS), produced tons of unnecessary waste while doing little to curb greenhouse gas emissions. The program’s first mistake seems to have been its focus on car shredding, instead of car recycling. With 690,000 vehicles traded in, that’s a pretty big mistake.

Why am I not surprised? The pinhead label is too tame. Morons is more like it.

I believe that the destruction of the "clunkers" was to eliminate used cars. My husband and I both drive very inexpensive used vehicles and carry liability insurance. No car payment, low insurance, it has saved us a great deal of money. Most new cars cost more than we owe on our house. If there were no used cars to replace our old cars, we´d be in trouble. I think they want automobile ownership to become so expensive that most people can´t afford it. Mobility is part of freedom.

Agree with #2. Used cars are a valuable resource in Obama´s economy, and have value to consumers who cannot afford the increase in taxes and still purchase a new vehicle.

It will go down in history as one of the most boneheaded programs ever. Any fool knows that you don´t come out ahead by destroying a valuable asset. Any fool, that is except those in United States Congress. And it screwed young people by the thousands. One of my daughters who was about to go off to college had been working and saving for a car. CforC blew the used car market to smithereens and what had been enough money was no longer enough. In the end, Mom and I pitched in and daughter got her car. In the end it was nothing except to illustrate how terminally stupid a bunch of lawyers in Congress can be when they try to think their way through a technical issue. Pitiful.

Where was Mitt Romney with this? Why didn´t I run his campaign?

Only a total elitist like Obama could destroy hundreds of thousands of perfectly good cars that poor people and students would have purchased. The cost of used cars skyrocketed, and used car delears went out of business. And the surge in new car sales was a temporary blip.

The foundational notion of true conservatism is this: Government damages everything it touches. Some minimal amount of government is needed but government is a strong medicine with toxic side effects and must be used as a last resort and as seldom as possible.

Agree with all posters on this one . Another important side effect is the loss of all the replacement parts that could have been salvaged. Can´t tell you how many cars our family has had that have enjoyed a longer life as a result of the various boneyards in our area and now, online. I believe I read somewhere that most of the shredded steel was sold to China for rebar to aid in their construction boom at the time. Would be interesting to see just who orchestrated that.
I´ll never forget the stories I heard from the mechanics at local dealerships as they described their horror at being forced to euthanize perfectly good used cars. The first step of the government mandate required that they pour a concoction into a running engine until it seized up.
Think of all the ´working families´ that could have used these cars or their parts to prolong the life of their cars in order to save money.

Wasn´t cash for clunkers a Van Jones program? Van who spent time in jail where he learned the value of covert radicalism by putting on a suit and joining "the man". Hired by ValJar due to his value for the newly minted administration.

What a twisted coil this administration has woven.

A video in which an Egyptian woman accuses President Barack Obama of interfering in Egyptian politics has gone so viral in the Middle East, it has inspired knockoffs, photoshopped spoofs and even T-shirts. Normally, I post partial transcripts with videos, but not this time; didn’t want to steal this angry woman’s thunder. Although, here’s a hint: were the video to have an official title, it would undoubtedly be called: “Shut up your mouth, Obama” In any event, this woman’s probably just a “racist.” Although to be fair, Obama did intervene in her nation’s politics to back Morsi, who turned out to be a

It seems a long time ago, that dreadful December night in 1988 when fire and aeroplane debris rained down on the Scottish village of Lockerbie. A generation of Britons has been born unaware of the sense of foreboding we all felt that night, when news broke that a civilian passenger flight had been blown up in mid-air, killing 270 people, by a terrorist bomb concealed in a radio cassette player. It is easy to see why a younger generation finds it hard to understand that we need to be wary of Iran and its nuclear ambitions. But, back in 1988, few

President Barack Obama would veto a GOP-drafted bill that would allow legislators to take agency officials to court if they don’t enforce laws, according to a White House statement. The GOP is pushing the bill through the House because Obama has repeatedly declined to enforce laws he doesn’t like, say GOP legislators. “President Obama has refused to enforce those parts of our nation’s immigration laws that are not to his political liking, has waived portions of our welfare laws, has stretched our environmental laws to accommodate his policy objectives, and has waived testing accountability provisions required under the ‘No Child Left Behind’

Field Museum research assistant Josh Engel has spent a couple days this week along the lakefront performing the grim task of collecting dead waterfowl. They haven’t been difficult to find. Engel and his Field Museum colleagues collected 30 of the birds that had died close to shore, most of them red-breasted merganser and white-winged scoter ducks. Some were floating and others were sealed in ice; all of them were emaciated. “It’s sort of hard to go out and see — you can practically see them dying,” said Engel, who is also an ornithologist. Something potentially sinister is happening across America, and we should stop and take notice before it changes the character of our country forever. County, city and small-town police departments across the country are now acquiring free military-grade weapons that could possibly be used against the very citizens and taxpayers that not only fund their departments but who the police are charged with protecting. Recently in a small, sleepy North Carolina town of roughly 16,000 people, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department acquired some Humvees and Mine-Resistant, Ambush-Protected vehicles (or MRAPs), which it proudly displayed at a recent car show. Oversight member Rep. The United States, like almost all English-speaking countries, has a two-party political system. That means we have big-tent parties, with a variety of competing political strains under each of the two tents. In other countries, such as Italy and Israel, they have small-tent parties, far more ideologically unified and, indeed, often based on a single political idea. (Snip)The recent CPAC conference certainly displayed a variety of political opinions under the Republican tent, from Rick Perry’s clarion call to unleash the genius of American enterprise, to Chris Christie’s moderate approach, to Rick Santorum’s down-the-line social conservatism, to Rand Paul’s libertarian concern

On economic policy, President Obama has consistently and thoroughly followed just the opposite of everything Reagan did. And that is why he has consistently and thoroughly gotten the opposite of Reagan’s results. Reagan slashed tax rates, with the top income tax rate reduced from 70% when he entered office to 28% when he left. (Federal tax revenues doubled during the 1980s.) Early in his first year, Reagan led Congress to cut federal spending by nearly 5%. Early in his first year, Obama led Congress to enact nearly $1 trillion in utterly wasted “stimulus” spending. House Republicans have a worthy suggestion to protect Ukraine and increase the West’s leverage there: Deregulate American energy production and encourage oil and gas exports. The Department of Energy has been reluctant and slow to approve permits for shipping natural gas overseas, for instance, which the market demands from the U.S. for the first time. Crude-oil exports remain illegal. Energy production on federally owned lands has been dropping. A plan to address all of these issues and more can’t be expected to shift the balance of power in Eurasia — but its economic benefits should have compelled us to start

Fertility is the missing chapter in sex education. Sobering facts about women’s declining fertility after their 20s are being withheld from ambitious young women, who are propelled along a career track devised for men. The refusal by public schools’ sex-education programs to acknowledge gender differences is betraying both boys and girls. The genders should be separated for sex counseling. It is absurd to avoid the harsh reality that boys have less to lose from casual serial sex than do girls, who risk pregnancy and whose future fertility can be compromised by disease.
