That should be obvious to anyone who has observed Congress for more than a minute, but unfortunately there seems to be a built-in human bias which assumes that we collectively get wiser as time passes.This optimism bubbles up despite mankind being the race which up till now has given us the charming innovations of slavery, car bombs, and, of course, flying passenger airplanes into occupied skyscrapers.[SNIP}Mind you, I’m not against progress — I just don’t see much evidence that mankind should be put in charge of it

I have a little trouble with the notion that God gets all the credit while man gets all the blame. There is also the pesky problem of people fighting about who´s God is in charge.
As an agnostic I would prefer an absolute minimum of both church and state power and influence.
Perhaps there is a God.
Perhaps not.
I fear more the destruction of the scientific method in modern culture than the lack of faith.

A recent letter to the editor got me thinking about the origins of our great country, and how far astray we have gone from the principles enshrined in both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America.[SNIP]What was needed was an amendment which both stated plainly its intended goal — to strip the federal government of the power it has grabbed without authority over more than 200 years — and at the same time provided a clear mechanism for restoring America to the principles envisioned by the founders.

Some time ago, a reader presented me with a yellowed newspaper clipping from 1936, which seems to grow more relevant every day.It is a syndicated column by Frank R. They say that justice delayed is justice denied.If that is the case, then surely the families of Harvey Mad Man and Thomas Running Rabbit can rightly complain that there is no justice in Montana.The two men were murdered execution style in 1982 by Ronald Allen Smith, who during his trial confessed to the murder and said he had wanted to know what it felt like to kill someone.He also rejected a plea bargain for life in prison and insisted on the death penalty.[SNIP] Maybe we can learn from the case of Eddie Anderson.

Bush, immigration reform by John McCain, immigration reform by Barack Obama, or immigration reform by Marco Rubio, all you get is the same old “nothing left to lose.” And maybe, at long last, they are right — maybe we have sunk so low, there is nothing left to fight for.

RUSH: Folks, I don´t know how else to categorize this. We are living in a dying country. I don´t know how else to categorize what´s happening -- 88,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.
