Non-believers on rise in Congress
Politico, by Charles Mahtesian

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 1/5/2013 8:44:22 PM

The number of members of Congress who don’t identify with any particular religion is on the rise, according to an analysis by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. In the 96th Congress (1979-80), not a single member of the House or Senate said they didn’t belong to any particular faith, didn’t know or refused to disclose their religion. But in the new 113th Congress, 10 members fall under that category. That’s twice as many as in the 111th Congress (2009-10). Pew notes there’s still a great disparity between the percentage of U.S. adults and the percentage of members

Some hope? As one gets older, one tends to become a believer and we have a bunch of boomers getting older and older and older.

Or on the other hand, perhaps it´s because many believers no longer feel themselves bound to any particular denomination...

We can no longer claim to be a G-d fearing country at a time when we need Him the most.

The country as a whole has more non-believers.

More trickle down.

That is just overwhelming evidence of growing atheism isn´t it?

Folks, ten is a very small number. Yes, there is a bit of a trend here, but believersof some kind are still the majority of the country and the majority of believers are Christian of some order or another. Don´t let this silly article diacourage you. The left wants you to believe they are the majority and that nobody believes in God anymore. It is just not true. Remember, everything the left does is to influence the public by shaping perception. Perception is everything. I chose to get baptised and confirmed Catholic in my 20´s but I never have been religious...I consider myself spiritual. I believe in God and have a good relationship with Him. But I just don´t follow a specific dogma. Still, I pray for this country and that it be saved from evil. I am sure that there are many others like me who are not traditional but still a believer. Atheists (the willfully ignorant...because they really don´t know and still close their mind to any possibilities) are really a very small minority.

Following Tuesday´s special election victory, Democrat Robin Kelly will start a new job in Congress as the least senior member of a House dominated by Republicans. That political reality is not lost on Kelly, who said her first task is to restore district offices and concentrate on constituent services as she replaces disgraced former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. in the South Side and south suburban 2nd Congressional District. "Yes, we´ve seen some tough times and some setbacks. I know for some of you, your faith in your leaders is a little shaken,"

Actually, she is backing off. Here’s the thing about her now-famous MSNBC promo: Either she’s saying something radical or she’s saying something so banal that it’s barely even worth saying. The radical interpretation is that she thinks parents should have less say over how their children are raised and that “communities” should have a larger role. The very, very banal interpretation is that she thinks communities should do more to improve children’s lives and that thinking of them as “our children” might help forge that mentality. The money line in the promo that pointed to the radical interpretation

WASHINGTON- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says he wants U.S. military law changed so senior commanders can´t overturn courts-martial verdicts in major crimes such as rape. Hagel said the Pentagon´s top lawyers would prepare legislation for Congress that would strip commanders´ power to toss out convictions, "except for certain minor offenses that would not ordinarily warrant trial by court-martial." Convicted defendants still would be able to appeal their cases. But in a move berated by advocacy groups for military sexual-assault victims, Hagel also said he would recommend commanders retain the power to alter courts-martial sentences,

If presidential politics ever involved time travel, President Obama might be in a little trouble. If an election between Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama were held today, 58% would vote for Reagan over Obama, according to a survey of 1,000 Americans age 18 and older conducted by Kelton Research for the National Geographic Channel. Though when the field is narrowed to people ages 18-34 -- those either too young to have known Reagan as president or too young to remember much -- the gap shrinks to 51% in favor of Reagan.

We´ve got full background here, but the toplines are this: Corn got hold of a conversation apparently recorded during a presentation by consultants to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell´s reelection campaign. The consultants were opposition researchers, hired by the campaign to ferret out damaging information about actress Ashley Judd, who at one point considered running against McConnell.
