Ex-Officer Is First in C.I.A. to Face
Prison for a Leak

New York Times, by Scott Shane

Original Article

Posted By:schnapps, 1/5/2013 7:54:17 PM

Looking back, John C. Kiriakou admits he should have known better. But when the F.B.I. called him a year ago and invited him to stop by and “help us with a case,” he did not hesitate. (snip)Only an hour into what began as a relaxed chat with the two agents — the younger one who traded Pittsburgh Steelers talk with him and the senior investigator with the droopy eye — did he begin to realize just who was the target of the investigation.

Comments:
Where was the same NYT sympathy for Scooter Libby who did NOT leak the name of a covert agent yet is still in jail?

I don´t condone what he did or argue that he should not go to prison. I just have a very hard time with him being prosecuted by the Obama Administration that had revealed a lot of classified information, outed the special forces who got Bin Laden and even gave information to freaking Hollywood to make a movie about Obama. If I were him I would be contrite but also very bitter.

I had not heard that Libby was in prison. I don´t beleive that is true.

If he is, well by damn that´s a cause I´d get behind real fast, quick, and in a hurry!!

And Leahy? Or the NYT´s many "sources"?

Wow. Fast justice. Too bad the FBI didn´t accomplish the same feat for Leaky Leahy and the thugs in the WH who routinely spill secrets to every enemy of the US.

Scooter Libby never went to prison. His sentence was commuted by President Bush. He was not pardoned, which caused Dick Cheney to get angry with President Bush´s decision.

Interior Minister Manuel Valls said Tuesday that 1,193 vehicles were torched by French youths overnight in what has become a dubious New Year´s Eve tradition. Hundreds of empty, parked cars go up in flames in France each New Year’s Eve, set afire by young revelers, a much lamented tradition that remained intact this year with 1,193 vehicles burned, Interior Minister Manuel Valls said Tuesday. His announcement was the first time in three years that such figures have been released. The conservative government of former President Nicolas Sarkozy had decided to stop publishing them in a bid to reduce the crime

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Amid all of the very real threats of war and stuff from North Korea, you´d think American intelligence officers want as much video footage of the enemy as possible. Well, here is one video featuring North Korean exercises and Kim Jong-Un holding a gun, and we´ll say this: they certainly get points for presentation. The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....
