Woman hiding with kids shoots intruder
WSB-TV [Atlanta], by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:markinalpine, 1/5/2013 12:24:56 PM

LOGANVILLE, Ga. — A woman hiding in her attic with children shot an intruder multiple times before fleeing to safety Friday. The incident happened at a home on Henderson Ridge Lane in Loganville around 1 p.m. The woman was working in an upstairs office when she spotted a strange man outside a window, according to Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman. He said she took her 9-year-old twins to a crawlspace before the man broke in using a crowbar. But the man eventually found the family.

Comments:
She had a .38 revolver. She had better get a semi-auto pistol with a high capacity magazine before the obysmal won and his demonrat thugs succeed in getting them banned.

She needs to work on her shot placement. He shouldn´t have survived the encounter with her using .38 caliber rounds.

I had a cop show me a photo once taken back in the ´30s, when most cops used .38s, of a armed perp who had been shot more than 40 times before ceasing to resist. That´s why a lot of departments bought .357s.

Poorly written article, first it said the punk had face and neck wounds, then farther into the article it said he had punctured lungs, punctured liver and might not survive the night. I think she did pretty good but she needs a semi-auto with a 17 round clip.

Hope he assumes room temp.

That was some good shooting. She might want to consider the use of starburst ammo that expands to twice its diameter (.38 x 2= .76, or 3/4 of an inch) upon impact. That destroys lots more tissue, and takes the burden off of the surgeons, who don´t have to operate. He would have died in his vehicle, if not sooner.

Sometimes you have to be practical. I carry a .380 Kel Tec that is easily concealable and only weighs about ten ounces loaded.

It´s very comfortable and I find myself carrying it more than my other pistols.

It may be a little underpowered but it´s more effective than the heavy .45 that I left at home.

Too bad he lived, he sounds like he practices crime as a way of life since he had six arrests. Plus, the possibility of a lawsuit for self-defense these days is very real. They would probably throw in racism for good measure.

+P hollow-points means that the lowly 380 is much better for defense than it used to be when FMJ (full metal jacket or "ball") was the norm. Spend your money for high end ammo for carry, just make sure your firearm functions with it as some HP bullet shapes may cause problems in some guns. Buy cheap stuff for practice or plinking.

Heck, she hit this Gomer with five out of six rounds. Pretty damned good shooting if you ask me. The cops around here have been known to fire their Glocks in a close quarters gunfight until the slide locks back and miss the other guy every freaaking time. Oh for seventeen. And they spend lots of time at the range.

One thing about wheel guns, they rarely jam. Semi-autos; another story.

#9/#10/#13/#19: EXACTLY

The 38 revolver is a good defensive arm because of its convenience of carry/concealment along with reasonable recoil for someone who doesn’t have a strong wrist.

I still prefer my M1911 while my wife carries a 5 round Taurus loaded with 38-Special +P topped with the best expanding bullet available!

The fact that she got 5 out of 6 into him is indication that it was/is a good arm for her. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a 5 rounder to begin with.

But, as previously posted, with four exit wounds, it was probably loaded with Hard Ball which is a big No-No for a defensive round.

As a minimum it should have been an expanding round with consideration for +P or +P+ although a +P+ round may have been too much for her to handle.

Hard Ball is for NATO troops. Defensive Rounds are for Defensive Carry!

FWIW: The Fascists in DC and many state capitals have wanted to outlaw defensive rounds in the past and we can expect it to be part of the new push by the Kenyan and that witch from San Fran.

Kafir

PS: Like others here, I love happy endings and #19 nails it for me!

It wasn´t just a quick snatch and run burglary. It makes one wonder if he was intentionally looking to harm people since he went upstairs to the attic. He´d be healthy and probably free if he had done a quick grab and go of a few things on the main floor. Oh well, I really don´t feel too sorry for him.

I see from the photo that the alleged perpetrator was African American, while the husband of the alleged potential “victim” appears caucasian, so we might assume that his wife is also, possibly. In any case, I suspect that this is a racist crime, and that the alleged perpetrator was in fact, the victim. I think we should all send contributions to the victim support fund, in care of the Reverends Sharpton and Jackson, and rest assured that justice will prevail.

How long would it have taken the police to get to her house? Long enough for him to kill three people with his crowbar. Another vote for the NRA and gun owners. I congratulate her, but she might need to learn how to aim better, if she shot him in the face. The body is a bigger target.

Yes, the full size 1911 in .45ACP is heavy, but it is also quite effective. That is why I always carry TWO. On my person. Because any machine can malfunction and will do so at the worst possible time. I also carry eight extra eight-round MAGAZINES. Got that, folks? MAGAZINES! I carry eight extra MAGAZINES because every gunfight in history was won by the last round fired and I don´t want to be the first one in the fight to run dry. Also because no modern semi-automatic firearm will accept or function with CLIPS. I have tried full and half moon CLIPS, M1 Garand clips, M14 and M16 loading CLIPS, etc. None of my semi-automatics will accept any known CLIP. They all function as designed with the proper MAGAZINE.

I know, I know. I am a fanatic. But firearms are my life. It is what I do. And remember: when choosing a sidearm for personal protection; it is not supposed to be comfortable, it is supposed to be comforting.

As a woman who has never married, why did she waste time calling her husband? If I thought I was in danger I would take the phone into the attic with me, and the gun, and call 911 myself. What a dopey woman! Can´t she make a decision without her husband? Yes, good for her she shot him, but calling your husband first, a waste of time.

This knuckleheaded per has been arrested six other times in the county since 2008. What a fraud! No criminal should be set free - period. This is what a liberal criminal justice system brings us - more crime. If this woman wasn´t armed, you would have had three homicides. This makes me sick.

In these seemingly innocuous words are a key to GOP revival. TALLAHASSEE - Authorities say a Florida Panhandle man has been arrested after he tried to rob a convenience store with a cattle prod but was thwarted by a clerk with a gun. The Leon County Sheriff´s Office says 26-year-old Lance Tomberlin went into a store just outside Tallahassee on January 2, produced the cattle prod and demanded money from the clerk. Officials say he shocked the clerk several times before the clerk pulled a handgun. Authorities say Tomberlin fled and another employee tried to restrain him, but he eventually escaped in his truck.

RUSH: Folks, I don´t know how else to categorize this. We are living in a dying country. I don´t know how else to categorize what´s happening -- 88,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

No one is more preoccupied these days with Hillary Clinton´s 2016 plans than the Beltway political class—not even the former presidential candidate herself. To hear some tell it, her decision will be dispositive for all other Democrats thinking of entering the race. And pundits and reporters aren´t the only ones positing the "The Hillary Factor": No less than the House Democratic whip, Steny Hoyer, told BuzzFeed, “I don´t know that anybody would run against Hillary…. If she runs, she clears the field.” It´s an understandable conclusion, given Clinton´s stature in the Democratic Party and her 70 percent

I hope all will look at a lifetime of service over some poorly chosen words.” Carson will remain as commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins,

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explained to the Women in the World summit in New York today that the clock is turning back for women in America. Clinton praised her own mother for helping empower her to success and marveled at the opportunities that her own daughter Chelsea has pursued. But Clinton warned that there is still so much to do to promote women´s rights in America. "As I look at all these young women that I am privileged to work with, or know through Chelsea, and its hard to imagine turning the clock on them," Clinton said.

The Obama White House is scrambling to blame Friday’s abysmal March jobs numbers on the sequester’s trimming of the rate of growth in federal budgets that have yet to fully commence. After the Labor Department announced that a mass exodus of 663,000 workers left the U.S. workforce last month and that job creation fell 112,000 jobs short of projections, Obama’s top economic adviser Alan B. Krueger, took to the White House blog to blame the sequester: It is important to bear in mind that the March household and payroll surveys are the first monthly surveys to look

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

SANFORD - Trayvon Martin´s parents have settled a wrongful death claim for an amount believed to be more than $1 million against the homeowners association of the Sanford subdivision where their teenage son was killed. Their attorney, Benjamin Crump, filed that paperwork at the Seminole County Courthouse, a portion of which was made public today. In the five pages of the settlement that were available for public review, the settlement amount had been marked out. Lower in the agreement, the parties specified that they would keep that amount confidential. When asked during an earlier interview whether the amount was

The budget President Barack Obama will submit on April 10 will contain a proposal that would prohibit individuals from accumulating more than $3 million in Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and tax-preferred retirement accounts. According to a White House statement, the Obama administration believes the current rules allow some wealthy individuals "to accumulate many millions of dollars in these accounts, substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving." "The budget would limit an individual’s total balance across tax-preferred accounts to an amount sufficient to finance an annuity of not more than $205,000 per
