Chevy Volt sales triple in 2012
CNN, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:viola, 1/5/2013 12:16:25 PM

Chevy Volt sales are cranking up. General Motors sold three times as many Chevrolet Volts in 2012 as it did in 2011, which was the car´s first full year on the market. GM sold 23,461 Volts in 2012 compared with just 7,671 in 2011. While it´s an impressive jump, the Volt is still one of Chevy´s lowest-selling cars. However, the Volt greatly outdid the Corvette, for instance, of which only 14,000 were sold last year.

Why wasn´t this the headline?

Probably all purchased by union flunkies using taxpayer bailout money. Makes it look like business is booming.Nobody is dumb enough to buy one of those things, not even Obama voters. Then again, no underestimating human ignorance. One can always go lower.Proven time and time and time again.

So the elite, progressive rich had more money to spend on $40k+ plus cars, while the poor working stiffs got by with less?

Life sure is grand in Obammyland.

Gooobermint purchases.

Barry must be supported.

FTA: GM was offering the car for $289 a month with a $2,800 down payment. That was far less than a car with the Volt´s nearly $40,000 purchase price would ordinarily lease for, even factoring in a $7,500 plug-in car tax credit.

So they are selling them for pennies on the dollar. How soon before GM is once again begging for a bailout?

Interesting reach comparing apples and oranges with the Corvette which has a minimum price of $50,000 and a totally different target market.

OMG, the Volt outsold the Corvette! I love the Corvette (had one), but it is a supremely impractical car. It sure isn´t a car one buys to save money, or to haul a family around, or even to drive on slightly wet roads.

And in related news, I noticed that most of these Volt sales were in Southern California, where Volt owners are now not happy: LAX announced they will no longer be giving free and preferential parking to plug-in owners, a freebie worth hundreds of dollars a month to many of these owners. Would they buy the car if it weren´t subsidized?

#5 caught it. GM is doing all kinds of lease deals on high priced vehicles, which in 2 or 3 years will be a huge liability for them.
They are kicking the can down the road, just the way congress and the kenyan klown are kicking the deficit down the road.
And the CNN headline is pure trickery. If I sold one widget last year, and three widgets this year, my sales have tripled this year.

I guess campaign promises work both ways- Hollywierdos are buying them for parking them next to their fleets of SUVs to prove they are in with the "God-President´s" agenda.

Volt versus Corvette. They have in common what, four wheels and a drink holder? Why not compare it to the Prius, which would beat the pants off it?

Can´t really call them sales if they´re giving them away or transacting with a captive customer like another government unit. If quantitative easing is printing money increasing the supply while making it more useless, then this is automotive easing.

You can see why CNN readers are so brain dead just reading the article. They cite "google" as the resource to show how practical this car is, and how stupid we all are.

Take away all subsidies. List on Volt is $40,000. List on a Cruze is $17-$23k, let´s go with the $20k average.

That is $20,000. The average miles per year American drive is, according to the US DOT, 13,476. In 2012 the average price of gas was $3.60 according to AAA.

The Cruze Eco gets 42 highway, but since we all know that sort of thing is skewed, let´s say it´s 32 mpg average.

That means the Cruze owner would spend $1516 per year on gas. That is a 13 year ROI.

Say he drove more miles, 20k, and he is a leadfoot and only gets 25 mpg.

He would spend $2880 per year, and would get a 7 year ROI. This does not include battery replacement of course.

Let´s say gas drops to $2.90. It would take 16 YEARS in my first example for ROI, and 8.6 years in my second example!

I don´t see how basic math escapes these people. Oh never mind, they are CNN people.

Buyers PAY for their Corvettes. Taxpayers subsidize the VOLT. and there is no mention of how many were bought by the Government. That´s like moving money from one pocket to another and adding taxpayer money increase the size of the wad.

#17 says it all. It’s a terrible investment for the buyer, and why is GM celebrating selling more of a product that loses money for them with each additional unit sold? Is it a coincidence that the US ranks 27th in the world in math scores?

Sometimes I wonder if CNN is intentionally dense. Volt and Corvette are not comparable. The vet is a specality car and volume is kept low on purpose. Keeps demand and prices up - duh, that involves thinking.

Wasn´t GM supposed to sell 40k Volts in 2012? Didn´t the plant have a couple of furloughs due to slow sales? Any mention? Of course not.

Reply 19 - Posted by: LouD, 1/5/2013 2:43:48 PM     (No. 9100538)

GE bought a number of them for employees use. Doesn´t matter to them that Volts are small cars, really only suitable for two people and a couple of beagles. GE is in bed with Obama and for that reason alone I won´t buy another GE product. Plus the fact that GE products are unreliable. So when the sales figures are broken down, I will bet that the number sold to private citizens is miniscule. (If they even would break down those figures. Hah!)

Check the parking lots at the Pentagon and Homeland security if you want to see where a chunk of these taxpayer hell cars are. Wasn´t long ago Volt workers were on furlough, sitting around playing Monopoly while getting paid.

You just had Toyota getting slapped with a billion dollar payout in bogus claims and yet these cars are potential fire hazards and nobody blinks as eye. These cars could be a big part of why GM wants to part company with the government but I doubt Obama´s bully machine will allow it

Well ... as a status symbol for the moderately affluent Ecologically Pretentious the Volt isn´t a bad toy. Otherwise it doesn´t make much sense.
Btw --- the Corvette sales numbers? This year is the end of the C6 series. The new C7 will be introduced in 2 weeks at the Detroit auto show, so it isn´t too surprising the End Of Model Run slow down hit their sales numbers.

If it were not for barry obama and his green dreamers, the Volt would not exist. The market drives car sales and even the government can´t purchase enough of these impractical motorized skate boards to ever make it successful, although they will try. Ditto on GM purchases. There will never be another GM product near my house.

No mention of the 10K price tag to replace the batteries. Wait until the owners get hit with that bill.

Wait until people start buying Volts at the used car lot to discover that they have to fork over 9K six months later

Those 23,461 Volts were all foisted off on the Goobermint. That´s why security wasn´t provided in Benghazi. The priority was buying Volts for France or someplace like that.

WASHINGTON — A continued decline in the federal budget deficit this year is resulting in a better than expected fiscal forecast for 2013 from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. The CBO projects a $642 billion budget deficit for fiscal year 2013, down more than $200 billion from its February estimate and the smallest annual shortfall since 2008. It is the lowest level of deficit spending to date under President Obama, who faced $1 trillion or more in annual deficits during his first term.

Several Republican governors have embraced a key pillar of President Obama’s health-care law: Extending Medicaid to 17 million Americans. Many Republicans balked at the expansion when the Supreme Court made the Medicaid expansion optional in its ruling last in the summer. Supporters of the law worried that the opposition could undermine the entire health-care overhaul by shrinking the pool of Americans who would gain coverage. But six Republican governors have since come to back the program, including Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder on Wednesday and Ohio’s John Kasich on Monday. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer announced her support in mid-January.

To no one’s surprise, it is already evident that the Obama administration has been lying about the scope of the IRS’s harassment of conservative-leaning non-profits. The Washington Post has obtained documents that show the anti-conservative effort was directed from Washington, D.C., and was not a rogue operation out of the agency’s Cincinnati office, as the administration has claimed: Internal Revenue Service officials in Washington and at least two other offices were involved in the targeting of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, making clear the effort reached well beyond the

Unless, of course, you think the best example is the Internal Revenue Service turning the screws on groups it viewed as conservative and, therefore, unworthy of fair treatment.
