| Many of those who expressed outrage at the publication of a two-county interactive map of pistol permit owners by Gannett´s White Plains, New York-based Journal News just before Christmas have raised serious concerns that the paper´s action would directly harm law-abiding citizens. Evidence is pouring in that those fears are legitimate. Do your homework John. There is no gun show loophole. Background checks are done on the spot by the dealer while the customer waits, or maybe browses among other sellers for 20 minutes while it is processed. There is heavy police presence and security. And, no , there are no machine-guns or grenades for sale.

Supposed victims of crime sue the newspaper because they were targeted since the mapping showed they had no guns in the house? Anyone with an imagination can ruin that paper, including robbers who used the map but were shot because the paper missed one. So many opportunities here.

I am just amazed how much attention this is getting. This has been going on in other places for years. My name has been published at least twice since I earned my carry permit. I guess we folks in fly over country are not as important as those in New York City.

I think there should be payback from the Police department. They should KNOW who each and every employee of that Paper is, what kind of car they drive and what the license number on that car is. They, at quitting time be waiting on the route they take home and nail them every time they go a couple miles over the speed limit, don´t have their Seat Belt on or are just plain ugly that day. Make THEM sweat! Put up Billboards with pictures of those responsible for printing the names of the gun owners. Do EVERYTHING you can to bring that Paper to it´s knees!

It seems very odd that President Obama has made gun control the signature issue of his second term, so far. He can’t possibly achieve any significant legislation; a few tweaks to the background check system, maybe, but there is no chance of getting any meaningful gun control through the House. The House Democrats aren’t even trying. So it also seems strange that all eyes are on the Senate, where Harry Reid will unveil some sort of gun legislation–no one knows what, exactly–on Thursday. The party’s left-wing base is lining up behind the bill, sight unseen.

In a poll conducted by PoliceOne, a majority of law enforcement personnel said universal background checks, "assault weapons" bans, and "high capacity" magazine bans do not make police safer and will not lower violent crime. Armed citizens, on the other hand, do make a positive difference. In the poll of 15,000 law enforcement professionals, 71% of respondents said an "assault weapons" ban would have zero impact on violent crime. Of those surveyed, 95.7% said the same of a "high capacity" magazine ban, and 79.7% said the same in response to a question on universal background checks.
