| It was probably back in 1997, though some think it might have been even earlier, when the Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting concluded that it had outgrown its space and that it was high time to erect a new building. But because it is not the Quaker way to rush into things, the group spent a few more years reflecting on whether it should buy land on Mermaid Lane for the new meetinghouse. Even after the group sealed the deal in 2003, there was still plenty more talking and thinking and praying to be done about the undertaking.

Yes, 20-25% cost adder for Building Trades Unions construction is pretty typical from my experience in PA and elsewhere. I´ve seen as much as 35% in WVA and KY.
It isn´t only higher wages for the union workers, but more restrictive work rules, minimum crew size requirements, and jurisdictional issues. All of these factors decrease overall productivity on the jobsite and add more bodies to the work force.

In the 60s a group called the "Voice" tried to take on the Teamsters in Philly. Trucks were overturned on Roosevelt Blvd and clashes occurred all over the city. It ended when the leader of the group and his secretary were found shot to death under his desk. Apparently unions get irate when threatened.

In Philadelphia, the Unions (as well as the D party) should be prosecuted under the RICO Laws.
Will never happen, as the D City Chairman, just happens to be concurrently, a US Congressman, as well as a Union President.
Phila´s last R majority candidate with a chance to be elected ......... (and believed to have been once defeated by voter fraud, and the 2nd time by a Police leak re the FBI tap in the incumbent mayor*} .............. was with his wife ruffed up by union thugs at a political rally.
* The D city chairman** [cum union head, and congressman) when questioned re the FBI tap of the mayors office, stated ´that how they treat strong black men´ ......... and later following subsequent indictment and conviction of 57 officials from said mayors administration .....´oh that was just politics´.
**He still represents PA-1, and given the city´s predilection for voting fraud, strong unions, and middle class ethnic flight, will be there into perpetuity.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.

Newtown killer Adam Lanza may have launched his murder spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School as an “act of revenge,” the Daily News has learned. A close friend of Lanza’s mother told The News that the troubled boy was a target of relentless bullying when he attended the Connecticut school years ago. “I think Adam felt betrayed by the school and this was his act of revenge,” said Marvin LaFontaine, a friend of Nancy Lanza’s. “Nancy told me he was being picked on at school.
