´Bad´ News From Politico:
´Gun Control (as a Media
Meme) Doesn´t Survive Christmas´

Newsbusters, by Tom Blumer

I´m almost surprised that the Politico´s web site background isn´t all black because of news delivered by its "On Media" reporter Dylan Byers on Tuesday. The "bad" news is that "gun control" as a media obsession appears to have largely disappeared, especially when you consider that some of the primary remaining stories on the topic are about David Gregory´s illegal but unprosecuted (as of yet) brandishing of a magazine on Meet the Press, a New York newspaper´s publication of an interactive map of two counties´ pistol permit dwellers, and said newspaper either feeling threatened or

Don´t count on it dying - the liberals feel empowered by the last election and they have a large and willing group of sheep that believe guns are bad, nasty and evil. Remarkably. they are not worried about self protection, stupidly putting their lives in the hands of the corrupt government. I hope they vote on the Feinstein Bill in the senate, I´d love to get some of the D senators in red states voting on this.

Of course the Demon-RATS in Congress are ´´empowered´´. They know the Republicans have officially become the ´´French Party´´.

That means the Republicans will talk tough for about 20 minutes, and then surrender to whatever NØbama and his minions want.

Stolen Passports Prompt Terror Concerns
in Missing Jet, Officials Say
NBC News, by Pete Williams, Robert Windrem* *    Original Article

U.S. officials told NBC News on Saturday that they are investigating terrorism concerns after revelations that two people apparently boarded the missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner with stolen passports. The officials said that they had found no clear link to terrorism. There are other criminal reasons, for example drug smuggling, that stolen passports might be used to board a plane. Two names on the passenger manifest of the plane, Malaysia Flight 370, matched passports reported stolen in Thailand, one from an Italian man and the other from an Austrian man, according to foreign governments and NBC News sources. Dr. Ben Carson teased thousands of conservatives Saturday morning about his political future, saying he does not know what God has in store for him, suggesting that he could have a future in elective politics. “America is a land of dreams,” he said, recalling as a child that he wanted so badly to become a physician that he actually looked forward to going to the doctor’s office. Mr. Carson’s message rocked the crowd at the 41st annual Conservative Political Action Conference, where activists from across the country came to see some of the GOP’s potential 2016 presidential contenders. Neurologist Ben Carson could be 2016’s sleeper presidential contender. You won’t find him in early polls, and he doesn’t make headlines for huddling with top advisers in primary states. Carson is lauded for his plainspoken yet forceful ability to speak clearly about the party’s values. The retired physician rose to prominence after delivering a controversial speech at last year’s National Prayer Breakfast, where he lambasted President Obama and his policies while standing just feet away from the president. Now, his supporters believe Carson, as a black Republican and a true political outsider, could be the one GOP candidate capable of

Thousands of bands head to South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, next week. A few will come from Chicago. A handful will trek from Seattle. Plenty of “based-in-Brooklyn” bands who have been in New York six months will show up. But Boston beats them all. I can’t scientifically prove our contingent to the 50,000-strong music festival tops every other city’s, but I know it’s true. Berklee College of Music and Web magazine Vanyaland host an excellent Boston showcase Thursday at noon in Brush Square Park. Our acts landed some of the coolest events: Air Traffic Controller will play the Grammy

LONDON — If you don´t want something, giving it back is often an option. That´s precisely what some Americans, frustrated at what they see as onerous U.S. tax filing obligations for Americans living overseas, are doing with their citizenship. "I felt like I had gotten a divorce," says Donna-Lane Nelson, a 71-year-old Geneva-based editor and writer who renounced her U.S. citizenship in 2011 in favor of a Swiss passport, in part because of what she felt were the increasingly arduous and punishing tax reporting requirements from U.S. authorities. "I was doubled taxed on my U.S. and Swiss pensions, the cost

The Philippines said Saturday it would not rush to complete a defence accord with the United States just so it can be sealed by the time President Barack Obama visits next month. President Benigno Aquino´s spokesman Herminio Coloma said there was no timetable to complete the agreement which would allow more US troops and equipment access to the Philippines. The agreement, which the two close allies have been discussing for several years, is seen as part of a Philippine effort to counter China´s aggressive moves to back its claims to most of the South China Sea. The airline said the Boeing 777-200 "lost contact" with Subang Air Traffic Control at 2:40 a.m., two hours into the flight. The plane had been expected to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m. Saturday. The Navy’s first laser weapon ready for prime time. The Laser Weapon System (LaWS), which will be used to protect vessels from drones and other small aircraft, will be deployed this summer with the USS Ponce, the technology website Ars Technica reported. LaWS accomplishes its task by causing a drone’s sensors to malfunction or, with enough energy, bursting it into flames. “The effects are scalable,” Navy Capt. Mike Ziv, the Naval Sea Systems Command’s program manager for directed energy and electric weapons, told Armed With Science, a Department of Defense blog. “In some cases [the weapon’s effects are] reversible, and in

A big new report on millennials was released today by the Pew Research Center, covering a lot of the same stuff we’re always hearing about this oft-discussed generation. Millennials are diverse, they’re not making a lot of money and they’re really into this Internet I keep hearing so much about. Still, there were some interesting takeaways! Here are four things that caught my attention. (Take note: The report focuses on people between ages 18 and 33, leaving out the teenagers who still technically count as millennials.) 1. MIAMI — President Barack Obama campaigned for better access to higher education Friday during a visit to a Miami-Dade high school he says should be a model for the rest of the country. The president and first lady helicoptered into Coral Reef Senior High in the early afternoon, where they talked college, careers and investment with a classroom of seniors before electrifying a gymnasium with hundreds of screaming upperclassmen seated to the ceiling in bleachers. "We heard great things about your school," Obama said, barely audible over the roar. "We wanted to come down here and see what was going

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa joined Megyn Kelly Thursday night to react to the uproar over him cutting off Elijah Cummings‘ mic during a contentious IRS hearing, saying that accusations he was “racist” are just “beneath response.” Issa suggested Cummings’ outburst was a “pre-staged event,” but Kelly asked, “Who cares? Let him have his couple of minutes to rip on you! You’re a big guy, you can take it!” He acknowledged that in hindsight, he might have let Cummings rant, but it’s completely unjustified for any member of Congress to try and get his chairmanship revoked over the incident

So, Lois Lerner still won´t talk about her role in the illegal targeting and harassment by the IRS of conservative and Tea Party groups seeking 501(c)(4) tax exemptions. Lerner appeared for a second time Wednesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and claimed her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself. It isn´t hard to figure out why Lerner´s lips are sealed. First, she knows the House of Representatives can cite her for contempt of Congress, but Attorney General Eric Holder would decide whether she is prosecuted on that charge. Lerner need not worry since President Obama has

During his speech to the CPAC crowd on Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) facetiously recalled “Presidents” Bob Dole, John McCain and Mitt Romney to make a point about how Republicans need to “stand for principle” in order to win big elections. Today, Sen. McCain fired back at Cruz during an appearance on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports. McCain said he spoke to Cruz about the comments and it was “cordial” but he took specific offense at the remarks concerning Dole. “He can say what he wants to about me and he can say anything he wants to about Mitt,” McCain said,

Via Matt Lewis, here’s Maverick once again demonstrating that “cordial relationship” in politico-speak means “two people who can’t publicly admit to hating each other but obviously do.” And it’s a cheap shot. Cruz’s point yesterday at CPAC was that Dole, McCain, and Romney lost because they weren’t conservative enough. That’s not because they’re gutless — he said specifically that they were “good” and “decent” men — but because they’re not committed, full-throated ideologues, even less so when they’re fighting for purple states in a national election. We can debate whether that’s true but there’s nothing offensive in raising the subject.

What’s been said of confession — that it is good for one’s soul but bad for one’s reputation — can also be true of testifying to Congress, so Lois Lerner has chosen to stay silent. Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. So, the IRS, far from repenting

One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. A few charts from the survey

Barack Obama´s parents were "married in name only," according to David Maraniss´s 2012 Barack Obama: The Story. But since definitions of an "in name only" marriage vary, such as "a marriage of convenience" or "a sexless marriage," and Maraniss failed to explain his claim, it is unclear what he was implying. Therefore, Obama´s oft-told nativity story must be searched for the full implications of Obama´s parents´ "in name only" marriage.
