To say that Congress looked like a clown show this week is an insult to self-respecting clowns. Painful though it may be, let’s review what just happened. Our august legislators — aided and abetted by President Obama — manufactured a fake crisis. They then proceeded to handle it so incompetently that they turned it into a real one. The bogus “fiscal cliff” — and please, let’s never, ever use those words again — was designed as a doomsday mechanism to force Congress and the president to make tough decisions. But resistance to the very concept
Comments: When a nitwit like Robinson calls you a clown it can sometimes be a badge of honor. But like the famous broken clock - he´s right! He even disses the "lord and saviour" himself! Amazing.
I believe it is the #1 clown who loves these battles, the ones where he destroys the opposition. Improving the fiscal health of the nation is nowhere near what the head clown wants to accomplish.
I almost thought that Eugene was being reasonable, until he brought up the 60 billion relief bill as if it is "relief". If he knows that the fiscal cliff bill was stuffed with pork, then he must know that the Sandy bill is just as bloated with nonsense.
When an uber socialist recognizes that we have already run out of other people´s money, you know that we are in deep trouble. Robinson is correct that we have to do something about the explosion in welfare (called entitlements as if goobernment can assign who gets entitled to take other people´s money) giveaways. As popular as Socialist Security and Mediscare are, they cannot be sustained for much longer. Popular doesn’t trump reality and the reality is we can’t afford to take other people’s money to give to people that happen to live a long time . Same is true for welfare, food stamps, Mediscare drug plans, unemployment and Obambicare. Sooner or later, this Ponzi scheme will collapse and it will make the Great Depression look like the Clinton boom years.
The real clowns are the voters that continue to put these boobs into office! Lets face it people, at the end of the day, idiots like Frank, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer and Emmanuel are freely elected into office and re- elected time and time again after they have proven themselves to be incompetent at best and an enemy of the People at worst! We, the People are at fault here for setting performance standards for our politicians so low and allowing them to become our ruling elete!
Out in the real world, shareholders (voters) would stand up at the annual shareholders meeting (polling place) and oust the board of directors (Congress). But then, in the real world, every shareholder has skin in the game, and is intelligent enough to know how to read his stockholders annual report. You don’t find many Honey Boo Boo’s at shareholder meetings.
Perhaps no historical figure is more deeply mired in legend and myth than Jesus of Nazareth. Outside of the Gospels — which are not so much factual accounts of Jesus but arguments about His religious significance — there is almost no trace of this simple Galilean peasant who inspired the world’s largest religion. But there’s enough biblical scholarship about the historical Jesus to raise questions about some of the myths that have formed around Him over the past 2,000 years. 1. Jesus was born in Bethlehem. The first Christians seem to have had little interest in Jesus’s early years. Stories about His
KENNEBUNK, Maine — Former President George H.W. Bush was an official witness at the same-sex wedding of two longtime friends, his spokesman said. Bush and his wife, Barbara Bush, attended the ceremony joining Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalsen as private citizens and friends on Saturday, said spokesman Jim McGrath. Thorgalsen posted a photo on her Facebook page showing Bush signing the marriage license as a witness. She captioned the photo: “Getting our marriage license witnessed!” In the photo, Bush is seated in a wheelchair, a stack of papers on his lap and his left hand poised with a pen. One bright red sock
In what has become an annoying and unnecessary annual ritual, Congressional Republicans and the White House have staked out their political ground as we approach this year’s Season of the Witch—the time when any remaining shred of reason in government is retired in favor of political posturing over the debt ceiling. Appearing this morning on ABC’s “This Week”, Obama made clear that he has no interest whatsoever in cooperating with Speaker John Boehner’s demand for budget cuts in trade for House GOPers permitting the government to pay the debts it has already incurred.
NATIONAL FOOTBALL League Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the Washington Redskins’ name three months ago to members of Congress who had urged that it be changed. “The Washington Redskins name has thus from its origin represented a positive meaning distinct from any disparagement that could be viewed in some other context,” Mr. Goodell wrote June 5. “For the team’s millions of fans and customers, who represent one of America’s most ethnically and geographically diverse fan bases, the name is a unifying force that stands for strength, courage, pride and respect.” It therefore was a welcome development to hear this recent and more thoughtful
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Miss Kansas Theresa Vail says she wants to break the stereotype that women with visible tattoos don’t compete in pageants. So during the swimsuit portion of the Miss America competition on Tuesday, Vail revealed two tattoos – the Serenity Prayer on her right side and the insignia of the U.S. Army Dental Corps on her left shoulder. Vail is a 22-year-old senior at Kansas State University. She’s also a member of the Army National Guard who wants to become a military dentist. Her platform is helping women overcome stereotypes and break barriers.
With the demise of Proposition 8 -- the gay marriage ban -- gay inmates in California can get married to their same-sex partners, the Associated Press has reported. In an August 30 memo, state prison officials stated that due to the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that "effectively invalidated" Proposition 8, they "must accept and process applications for a same-sex marriage between an inmate and a non-incarcerated person in the community, in the same manner as they do between opposite sex couples." In case you didn´t notice the wording, there is a caveat in that statement
Wednesday, John Kerry told the Senate not to worry about the cost of an American war on Syria. The Saudis and Gulf Arabs, cash-fat on the $110-a-barrel oil they sell U.S. consumers, will pick up the tab for the Tomahawk missiles. Has it come to this — U.S. soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen as the mercenaries of sheiks, sultans and emirs, Hessians of the New World Order, hired out to do the big-time killing for Saudi and Sunni royals? Yesterday, too, came a stunning report in the Washington Post. The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations has joined the Israeli lobby AIPAC
A commercial photography business owned by opponents of same-sex marriage violated New Mexico´s anti-discrimination law by refusing to take pictures of a gay couple´s commitment ceremony, the state´s highest court ruled unanimously Thursday. Elaine Huguenin, who owns Elane Photography with her husband and is the business´s principal photographer, refused to photograph the ceremony because it violated her religious beliefs. The court held that "a commercial photography business that offers its services to the public, thereby increasing its visibility to potential clients" is bound by the New Mexico Human Rights Act "and must serve same-sex couples on the same basis that
In the near term, bet on the men with the guns. The Egyptian Army, being slowly squeezed out of its central role in the nation’s life by Mohammed Morsi, waited for the moment to oust the elected president and crush his Muslim Brotherhood. Morsi was deposed and arrested, and the Brotherhood leaders rounded up and jailed. Their Cairo encampments were cleansed by gunfire. Hundreds of brothers were cut down and killed, and thousands wounded. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, gazing into his mirror, must see Col. Gamal Abdel Nasser gazing back. In the near term, the Brotherhood is in disarray. It
Let Rand Paul have his epic filibuster and Ted Cruz his scowling threats to shut down the government. Let Chris Christie thunder to a second term as the governor of New Jersey, his hubris flowering as his ultimate designs on the White House take shape. Jeb Bush, lying low in the subtropics of Florida, has something they don’t: the unalloyed affection of many of the Republican Party’s most influential moneymen, who are waiting for word on what he’ll do, hoping that he’ll seek the 2016 presidential nomination
MOSCOW (AP) — Pole vault great Yelena Isinbayeva condemned homosexuality Thursday after criticizing fellow competitors who painted their fingernails in rainbow colors to support gays and lesbians in the face of a new anti-gay law in Russia. The Russian, who won her third world title Tuesday in front of a boisterous home crowd, came out in favor of the law which has drawn sharp criticism and led Western activists to call for a boycott of next year´s Winter Olympics in the Russian resort of Sochi. "If we allow to promote and do all this stuff on the street, we are very afraid
The culture war has gone global. And the divisions are not only between, but within nations. “Suddenly, homosexuality is against the law,” wailed Jay Leno. “I mean, this seems like Germany. Let’s round up the Jews. Let’s round up the gays. … I mean, it starts like that.” Leno was speaking of Vladimir Putin’s Russia. Obama eagerly agreed: “I have no patience for countries that treat gays or lesbians … in ways that intimidate them or are harmful to them. … Nobody is more offended than me by some of the antigay and lesbian legislation that you’ve been seeing in Russia.” Leno and Obama were
Get ready for Chelsea Clinton Bump Watch 2014 — the only daughter of the former president and former secretary of State is declaring next year the “Year of the Baby.” In an interview for the November issue of Glamour magazine on her work with the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, Clinton reveals that she and husband Marc Mezvinsky are planning for a bouncing addition to their household. According to the 33-year-old Oxford grad, the pair, who married in 2010, sat down together a year after tying the knot and made a list focused on their future, saying, “We want,
On Tuesday evening, left-wing Politico ran a headline story encapsulating the theme of the day: “Government closed, Obamacare falters.” That message marked a massive loss for the Obama administration, which has claimed that Obamacare’s implementation could not be delayed, and used that rationale as an excuse to reject the House’s proposal for a one-year delay in favor of a government shutdown. The narrative began to shift early in the morning on Tuesday, when the Drudge Report ran a lead piece on the Obamacare health exchanges coming up with error messages for users across the country. “OBAMACRASH,” Drudge headlined. He followed
DALLAS —In a shopping center parking lot 1,300 miles from Washington’s bureaucracy and bickering, teen mom Karina Luciano loaded a watermelon and baby formula into her car. Luciano didn’t realize the federal assistance program that just purchased the food items for her children, Aimee, 2, and Jaiden, 11 months, is now in jeopardy because of the government shutdown. “Oh my god, I think I’m going to cry,” Luciano said upon learning the news. “This is really bad.” Nearly 9 million low-income mothers and children receive benefits under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. Congress’ inability to
First lady Michelle Obama tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that her Twitter account will see fewer updates due to the government shutdown. Due to Congress’s failure to pass legislation to fund the government, updates to this account will be limited. #Shutdown 12:55 PM - 1 Oct 2013. In 2009, FactCheck.org found that the first lady had a staff of 24 people. It is unclear whether any of the first lady’s staff have been furloughed as a result of the government shutdown.
The White House and the Department of the Interior rejected a request from Rep. Steven Palazzo’s office to have World War II veterans visit the World War II memorial in Washington, the Mississippi Republican told The Daily Caller Tuesday. Palazzo helped the veterans commit an act of civil disobedience against the Park Service Tuesday, when the heroes stormed through barricades around the closed memorial. The veterans were visiting the memorial as part of Honor Flight, a non-profit that provides veterans free transport to the nation’s capital to visit the memorials to the wars they fought in. “We got the heads up
New York Magazine writer Jonathan Chait spent his government shutdown day mocking WWII veterans who were shut out by the National Park Service (NPS) when they came to visit the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. On Tuesday morning, Representative Michelle Bachman (R-MN) and several Republican members of Congress helped tear down the barricades shutting the elderly veterans out of the WWII memorial. After the barricades were removed, dozens of veterans flooded in to conduct their often emotional visits. But, thinking he was being funny, Chait took to Twitter to poke fun at the veterans, joking that the NPS should
“We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” — Barack Obama, October 30, 2008 “We are going to have to change our conversation; we’re going to have to change our traditions, our history; we’re going to have to move into a different place as a nation.” — Michelle Obama, May 14, 2008 There certainly is no question that Barack Obama wants to change the United States. And there clearly is no doubt that such fundamental transformation is difficult, given our tripartite system of government — even though Obama entered office with large Democratic majorities in
Ronan Farrow’s ol’ blue eyes may say it all. Farrow, long described as the only biological child of actress Mia Farrow and New York filmmaker Woody Allen, may actually be the son of Frank Sinatra, his mom acknowledged in a bombshell report Wednesday. While Hollywood has whispered about the prospect for years, it was the first time that Mia publicly admitted the possibility. Asked point-blank by Vanity Fair about Sinatra’s possible parentage of Ronan, Mia coyly replied: “Possibly.” The “Rosemary’s Baby’’ actress was married to Ol’ Blue Eyes from 1966 to 1968 but continued to be his lover on and off afterward — including
Ted Cruz faced a barrage of hostile questions Wednesday from angry GOP senators, who lashed the Texas tea party freshman for helping prompt a government shutdown crisis without a strategy to end it. At a closed-door lunch meeting in the Senate’s Mansfield Room, Republican after Republican pressed Cruz to explain how he would propose to end the bitter budget impasse with Democrats, according to senators who attended the meeting. A defensive Cruz had no clear plan to force an end to the shutdown — or explain how he would defund Obamacare, as he has demanded all along, sources said. Things
President Barack Obama has called off his trip to Malaysia to tackle the US government shutdown, the office of Malaysia´s PM Najib Razak has said. Secretary of State John Kerry will represent him next week instead, the office said. The US government has partially shut down after the two houses of Congress failed to agree a new budget. More than 700,000 federal employees face unpaid leave, and national parks, museums and many buildings are closed. Mr Obama earlier vowed not to allow Republicans to undermine his signature healthcare legislation as a condition to restart the US government. "They demanded ransom," Mr Obama said.
The government shutdown will temporarily slash the staffs and operations of every “nonessential” federal program — which, as you can imagine, adds up to a whole lot of programs. There are the ones you know about, like the national parks and the panda cam. Then there’s everything else. Here’s 21 effects of the shutdown you might not have heard about. 1) No one will oversee the program that makes sure your organic food is actually organic. That’s called the National Organic Standards Program, and its entire staff was furloughed. Also on the Department of Agriculture furlough list: the people who check
If President Obama were really clever, he’d jump at the Republicans’ proposal in the continuing resolution to delay Obamacare for one year. A one-year delay is perhaps the only chance to prevent the Obamacare exchanges from becoming a disaster. Don’t take my word for it. Here’s Kevin Counihan, chief executive of Connecticut’s exchange, Access Health CT: “It is highly complex , it’s unprecedented and it’s not going to be smooth…. This is a two- to three-year implementation we’re doing in 10 months. I wish we had one more year.” The problem is that the test runs have revealed the exchange websites aren’t
