GOP Fumbled Fiscal Cliff, But Still Can Win End-Game By Going On The Offense

| The fiscal cliff deal has saved most Americans from losing their Bush-era tax cuts, prevented millions of taxpayers from being swept into the meat grinder of the Alternative Minimum Tax and deferred a mindless, across-the-board reduction in our defense capabilities until more deliberative action can be taken. But the real story of the cliff was how it was handled by President Obama and House Republicans, and what lessons can be learned for future negotiations on tax and spending reform. The fiscal-cliff game ball was fumbled by House leadership. They were up against a team whose quarterback had

What they need to do is pass a budget and debt ceiling extension together and refuse to compromise or pass continuing legislation. Our real fiscal cliff is the trillions of dollars being flushed down the toilet by Obama.

Friends and allies of Baroness Thatcher expressed ‘surprise and disappointment’ last night as it emerged President Obama is not planning to send any serving member of his administration to her funeral. Whitehall sources have revealed that the U.S. delegation at tomorrow’s service in St Paul’s Cathedral will be led by two Reagan era secretaries of state: James Baker and George Shultz. Though President Obama himself had not been expected to attend, there had been speculation that he would be represented either by Vice President Joe Biden or wife Michelle. The Boston Marathon bombs may have been packed with ball bearings, which could explain why so many victims lost feet, calves and ankles in the horrific explosions, it was revealed Monday night. Surgeons at hospitals across the city are reportedly pulling the vicious pieces of metal shrapnel - popular with makers of improvised explosive devices the world over - from the bodies of many of the 138 victims who were wounded in the twin blasts. Horrifying photos and witness accounts from the tragedy revealed that many victims had one or both lower limbs blown off entirely.

BOSTON—Two deadly explosions ripped through a crowd at the Boston Marathon on Monday, killing at least three people and injuring more than 110, once again raising the specter of terrorism on American soil. At about 2:50 p.m., some three hours after the winners had crossed the finish line but while thousands more runners were still on the streets, two bombs exploded 50 to 100 yards apart near the course´s end in the city´s crowded Back Bay section, Boston Police said. Panicked spectators fled the scene as smoke from the blasts filled the air, sirens wailed and exhausted, disoriented runners and

Just hours after explosions rocked the Boston Marathon on Monday, Chris Matthews speculated, "Normally domestic terrorists, people, tend to be on the far right." He then reconsidered and suggested, "...That’s not a good category, just extremists, let’s call them that." During live coverage, the Hardball host highlighted a possible explosion at John F. Kennedy´s presidential library and thought this could be a personal attack on the Democratic Party: "...But going after the Kennedy Library, not something at Bunker Hill, not something from the Freedom Trail or anything that kind of historic,

PRESIDENT Obama has warned the United States ´not to jump to conclusions´ after two blasts killed two and wounded more than 120 in Boston this morning. The White House does not yet know who planned and carried out the explosions but is handling the incident as "an act of terror," a White House official said. The New York Post reported a bomber was seen on CCTV footage and that a Saudi national - aged 20 - has been placed under armed guard with burn wounds in an undisclosed Boston hospital. However, Boston police

The scenes on Boylston Street Monday—an explosion, then screams and confusion, followed by another blast and more carnage, all captured on camera—were horrifying. And all too familiar. We don´t know, as of last night, who planted the bombs along the finish line of the Boston Marathon. At least two people were killed and dozens wounded. We do know that another open Western city has suffered the modern scourge of a mass attack on innocents. Boston´s police commissioner, Ed Davis, wasn´t ready on Monday afternoon to label it an act of terror. President Obama didn´t use the word "terror" in his

It was revealed that an eight-year-old child was one of the two people confirmed dead - after the twin detonations ripped through the cheering crowds lining Boston´s streets at around 2.50 p.m. Witnesses reported scenes of utter ´pandemonium´ in the seconds after the devices exploded on Boston´s Boylston Street sending thousands of runners and

Today marks Tax Day, when the IRS gets to collect outstanding bills or mercifully give us back money they never should have taken in the first place. Either way, the millennial generation has a lot to be angry about. That´s because young Americans are paying higher taxes with little to no economic opportunity to show for it. Wages for individuals under 35 years of age are $6,813 lower than a decade ago. The effective unemployment rate for 18- to 29-year-olds is 16.2%, which leaves one out of every six young adults currently jobless.

AMMAN, Jordan — The head of an extremist Jordanian Muslim Salafi group said early Tuesday that he was "happy to see the horror in America" after the explosions in Boston. "American blood isn´t more precious than Muslim blood," said Mohammad al-Chalabi, who was convicted in an al-Qaida-linked plot to attack U.S. and other Western diplomatic missions in Jordan in 2003. "Let the Americans feel the pain we endured by their armies occupying Iraq and Afghanistan and killing our people there," he said early Tuesday. Al-Chalabi served seven years in prison for his part in the foiled attack. His group is outlawed in Jordan.

More than 30 years ago, on Aug. 4, 1982, a Republican majority Senate passed with 69 votes the Tax Limitation/Balanced Budget Amendment (S.J. Res. 58) proposed by President Reagan (with the skillful and prodigious aid of a newly-minted senator from Utah, Orrin Hatch). The amendment would have required Congress to adopt a budget each year in which outlays were no greater than receipts, and then stick to that budget. That requirement could be waived by a vote of 60% of the whole number of each house of Congress or by a simple majority of each house

Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

On his Friday show, syndicated talk show host Mark Levin said that a Republican congressman is attempting to persuade one of his affiliates to remove his show from the airwaves. Although Levin would not offer the congressman’s name on air, he has been a vocal critic of various members of the House Republican leadership in the past. But Levin called the situation “fascism.” “Well, it has come to my attention that there is a Republican congressman out there who doesn’t like what I’ve been saying,” Levin said. “It has come to my attention that there is a

Here is something I don’t understand: liberals are often revealed as vile, vulgar hatemongers–not all of them, of course, but far too many–yet they never seem to pay a penalty at the polls. Why is that? Margaret Thatcher’s death has been the latest occasion for the Left to show its true stripes. All across the U.K., there have been demonstrations–vulgar at best, and violent at worst. In Bristol, lefties celebrating a Thatcher “death street party” started fires, destroyed property and battled police: This evening in Trafalgar Square, liberals have turned out for a long-planned celebration of Thatcher’s death:

In light of the explosions that have rocked Boston on Patriots’ Day, during the city’s annual marathon, NBC reporter Luke Russert took to Twitter to speculate that today’s horrific events could possibly be related to the 1993 government siege on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas — an incident often attached to conversations about “right-wing terrorism” and anti-government violence. “I was at Fenway Park w my dad and @mikebarnicle during Waco which was on Patriots Day in 1993. Speculating on possible link,” Russert tweeted following the explosions.

Two explosions occurred today near the finish line of the Boston Marathon,

The impending introduction of legislation to overhaul the country’s badly strained immigration system received an extraordinary endorsement on Sunday from Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, who, after holding back for weeks, appeared on no fewer than seven television talk shows to explain and defend a plan that he said would be “a net positive for the country, now and in the future.” It was a striking show of confidence from Mr. Rubio, one of eight members of a bipartisan Senate group that has been crafting a plan to provide a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants;

Is media bias to blame for lack of Gosnell coverage? Or something far more banal? The trial of Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell would seem to have all the elements of a spectacular news story: shocking allegations, horrifying visuals, sympathetic victims. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.
