´We´ll do everything to protect the

Argentine president places newspaper

David Cameron refused to rule out military action yesterday as he rebuked Argentina over its grab for the Falkland Islands. The Prime Minister vowed the UK would ‘do everything’ to protect the interests of the territory after Buenos Aires demanded he hand power to them. He said the sovereignty of the Falklands would be up to those who lived there when they hold a referendum in March.[Snip]The remarks came after Argentina’s president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner launched a fresh attack by insisting her nation was ‘forcibly stripped’ of the Falklands in a ‘blatant exercise of 19th century colonialism’--a claim branded

Typical Socialist. She has run her country´s economy into a ditch and now wants to start a war to change the subject. Shame she could not get a visit from Hurricane Sandy. Sure saved our socialist Presidents bacon.

I believe the Argies could have negotiated ownership of the Falklands but chose a military attack instead. Prime Minister Thatcher was not about to back away from that challenge.

By popping up with this now the Argentine Presidente obviously is showing that she does not want the Falkland Islanders to vote their self-determination in March. Between now and that vote, the UK should be sure that they have the defense forces in the Falkland Islands to deter another Argentine military invasion. A nuclear submarine or two, and a couple of battle hardened infantry units just back from Afghanistan with field artillery support should do the trick.

She probably already has Obama´s support. Any opportunity to smear the UK! Since the people of the Falklands want UK sponsorship... and they are not transplants but natives... they should be allowed to vote in March. Why escalate this now? I smell Obama.

Climate change is a form of "extreme, horrific, longterm, widespread violence" akin to mass murder or nuclear war, claims American writer and cultural historian Rebecca Solnit in the Guardian´s Environment pages. Ms Solnit--"the author of numerous books about art, landscape, public and collective life, ecology, politics, hope, meandering, reverie and memory"--argues that "carbon barons" like ExxonMobil are in the same league as nuclear powers which hold the option of "destroying quite a lot of life on Earth." President Barack Obama will sign an executive order and a presidential ´memorandum´ on Tuesday targeting federal government contractors´ records on pay equity for female employees. But his own administration is still facing tough questions about why women can´t expect to earn as much as men in the White House. [Snip] The White House did not respond Monday to questions about whether it will issue a report dissecting how men and women, or a variety of racial groups, fare in its salary pool. A new report from Gallup shows that Americans without medical insurance now make up 15.6 percent of the population, the lowest level since 2008. Democrats are facing a senior problem that could get even worse this year. The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and over by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race. Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."
