Belleville — Police Chief William Clay has banned all on-duty police officers from eating at Denny´s Restaurant on South Illinois Street after a detective was asked to remove her gun or leave the restaurant on New Year´s Day. "All sworn (uniformed/non-uniformed) officers have been prohibited from entering Denny´s Restaurant at 1130 South Illinois for any meal or coffee breaks while on duty," Clay said in a released statement. "Additionally, no officers may enter the restaurant off-duty if in uniform." Calls for service by Denny´s will continue to receive the appropriate law enforcement

FTA: "A spokeswoman for Denny´s Corp. Liz DiTrapano said in response to a concern raised by a guest about a customer with a firearm, the manager approached the individual and communicated that Denny´s policy does not permit firearms in the restaurant."

Good luck with that, fools. See also Luby´s massacre.

I will never enter a Denny´s again

What kind of idiot is concerned that a uniformed police officer on break has a gun? Of course, the concerned customer wants to be anonymous.

Liberalism really is a mental disorder.

3, you fell pray to the headlines - and obviously did not read the story. The paper is trying to make Denny´s, a conservative coropation, look bad. The main manager came up and corrected the idiotic asst manager who tried to run the cops off. Then the chief threw an over the top tantrum.

Read people, THEN spout off. You won´t look so stupid that way.

#6, Passion, I believe you are the one who misread the article and spouted stupid.
Clearly, the main manager tried to de-escalate the situation by offering to allow the police detectives to stay--but I see nothing in the article where that main manager said his subordinate was mistaken or apologized.
Maybe you need corrective reading skills

"According to police, Rice stated he had a complaint from another customer about the weapon..."

It would be interesting to know the political affiliation of the anonymous complainer, who doesn´t seem to have been thinking very clearly. If the sight of an armed person caused such alarm, requesting management to eject the individual would not seem like the smartest step to take - unless the person who complained knew perfectly well that these were police officers and thus did not fear provoking the situation. This sounds like either a very stupid or a very political person.

The take home lesson, which is not necessarily obvious, is how quickly isolated incidents like this can become BIG DEAL NEWS, thanks to instantaneous worldwide communication networks. One minute it´s business as usual - and the next minute, WHOOSH! it´s all over the country and even the world. Our biological nervous systems are not adequately equipped to deal with such input. Perspective and proportion are lacking or lost altogether. It seems we are all rubber-neckers and voyeurs now, whether we want to be or not.

Not sure what to conclude here. The corporation´s ad this past summer was very pro-conservative and clearly supported "the right to bear arms." But Denny´s was also one of those that caved to jesse jackson during his no-minorities-in-the-boardroom campaign back in the nineties. I seem to recall that the settlement included a share of the profits for one of his sons.

His PC response to an anonymous complainant (with a hidden motive I´d wager) is going to cost Denny´s a bundle in bad PR.

Seeing frequently how businesses are harmed by fools like David Rice who represent them to the public makes me wonder why anyone wants to risk being in business these days.

Everyone knows why the GOP lost in 2012. Social issues distracted voters from the winning Republican economic message – at least that’s what most people believe. A new report released by American Principles in Action, a 501c4 organization based in Washington, D.C., states that this theory, while widely held, is incorrect. The problem with this belief is two-fold. First, the social issues, if played on offense, actually help Republicans win elections. And secondly, the GOP economic message failed to connect with middle class voters immediate economic concerns.

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)
