| Today the Senate will make history, swearing in a record-breaking 20 female senators – 4 Republicans and 16 Democrats – in office. As the 113th Congress is sworn in today on Capitol Hill, ABC "World News" anchor Diane Sawyer has an exclusive joint interview with the historic class of female Senators. Diane Sawyer´s complete interview will air on World News this evening. "I can´t tell you the joy that I feel in my heart to look at these 20 gifted and talented women from two different parties, different zip codes

Comments: FTA "...that women´s styles tend to be more collaborative," You see, men are different than women. Except when they´re not. And don´t you dare mention it. That is sexist. But then women are "less confrontational" except when they are not. I love the logic of women!

SAid to my wife this morning; and lived to tell y´all about it- that we made two mistakes in America:
We chose not to harvest our own crops.
We thought that women could handle the repsonsibility of voting.
Wrong, wrong wrong...........present company excepted of course but if I had to sacrifice your vote to regain the America we all knew and love I´d do it in a heartbeat.

Pardon my overt sexism but why is this a news story? What is is about women that everytime they do anything, they want special recognition?
Unless, of course, it involves staying home and raising their children.
The democrats are rapidly destroying our country and ABC is crowing about the number of women in the Senate. God what an awful organization ABC is. Aptly named writer, too, Sullen.

Query: What makes conservative women so intelligent and liberal women so blasted stupid (especially the purportedly "book smart" ones with "Professor" in front of their names. See, e.g., Warren, Elizabeth)?

"... more collaborative," Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said.
Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., said by nature women are "less confrontational."
Sen-elect Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, says that women are "problem solvers."
Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., says that women have a camaraderie which helps in relationships that are key to negotiations on Capitol Hill, something she says comes natural to women more than men.
Uh huh, oh yeah, you betcha, sure thing, without a doubt, no question about it, whatever you say, dear. [Did I just arrive from Mars or am I to disregard everything I´ve observed since the first day 60 years ago when I first attended co-ed kindergarten?]

I am, however, glad to see some Republican faces among the female Senators. Let´s hope they indeed have the cajones (as #4 says) to keep their lefty sisters´ ideas in check.

Does this mean they will stop blaming white men for all the problems in the world? Does this mean when they do the same thing they usually do (women certainly haven´t proven to be effective in cutting spending, just the opposite) that the Kneepad media will put the blame on them and not the men? Does this mean that the killing spree in Chicago will suddenly stop? Does this mean that the welfare state will suddenly come under control? Will unlimited unemployment welfare stop? Of course not. All this means is we have a new set of incompetents with no desire or intent to actually goobern.

I attended a Pennsylvania Bar Institute training session in 1980, the only non lawyer present. And during the lunch break, I sat with several female and male lawyers. We had a discussion about the increase of women practicing law, and I offered the comment that with more women attorneys, perhaps legal conflicts, especially divorce proceedings, would become more gentle. A woman lawyer glared at me, and said that when she represents a woman in a divorce proceeding, she will rip off the husband´s testicles to win. I stopped talking.

I’m worried about the Supreme Court. I’m worried about how the justices can properly debate same-sex marriage when some don’t even seem to realize that most Americans use the word “gay” now instead of “homosexual”; when Chief Justice John Roberts thinks gays are merely concerned with marriage as a desirable “label,” and when Justice Samuel Alito compares gay marriage to cellphones. The Nine are back there in their Miss Havisham lairs mulling, disconcertingly disconnected. In his zeal to scare people about the “possible deleterious effect” of gay parents adopting, Justice Antonin Scalia did not seem fully

Anti-abortion groups have been trying to re-impose restrictions on abortion rights for 40 years, but the Legislature and governor of North Dakota have taken this attack on women’s reproductive health and freedom to a shocking new low by passing a bill that they must know perfectly well is unconstitutional by any reading of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision and others since.Under those rulings, full abortion bans are allowable only after fetal viability, which the medical community generally considers to be around 24 weeks into pregnancy. But North Dakota joins a growing list

Quite a few Republicans have been announcing new stages in their “evolution” on same-sex marriage, which is being debated in the Supreme Court today and tomorrow. Senator Rob Portman of Ohio said earlier this month that he was prompted to reverse his position when he learned his son was gay – after a two-year period of reflection that included having his name floated as a potential running mate for Mitt Romney, a staunch opponent of gay marriage.

In 2011, I wrote about mass murder at Kermit Gosnell’s abortion “clinic”: From the Office of the District Attorney in Philadelphia: Viable babies were born*. Gosnell killed them by plunging scissors into their spinal cords. He taught his staff to do the same. This is a remarkable moment in American life: A man is killing actual living, gurgling, bouncing babies on an industrial scale – and it barely makes the papers. It was a sickening crime that fit an all-too-familiar storyline. Young men who turned a night of partying into an ugly sexual assault. A culture in which high school football players are treated like gods and act as if no rules apply. And an innocent young woman who was abused by people she thought were friends and then humiliated. But what made the Steubenville, Ohio, rape case — which ended today with guilty verdicts against Trent Mays and Ma’lik Richmond — different and what made it feel cutting edge is the pervasive role

The world is full of Roman Catholics who long ago stopped following the dogma, doctrine and medieval sexual dictates of the church. But they never lost faith in Francesco, the merchant’s son who spoke to wolves, slept on dirt floors and dined with lepers. That the new pope would take the name of Francis, in honor of the saint from the Umbrian town of Assisi, is the most radical first move by a pontiff in some time. The 12th century mystic is the nature saint, patron of the environment, the poor, the dispossessed.

DETROIT — This city was already sinking under hundreds of millions of dollars in bills that it could not pay when a municipal auditor brought in a veteran financial consultant to dig through the books. A seasoned turnaround man and former actuary with Ford Motor Co., he was stunned by what he found: an additional $7.2 billion in retiree health costs that had never been reported, or even tallied up. “The city must take some drastic steps,” the consultant, John Boyle, warned the City Council in delivering his report at a public meeting in 2005.

During an interview for “This Week,” former Florida governor Jeb Bush told me that he was “in sync” with South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham on the issue of immigration reform. Jeb Bush isn’t not running for President. This is big news, even though the next presidential election is several zillion tweets away. President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
