In an about face, House Speaker
Boehner promises quick action on $60
billion in Hurricane Sandy aid

New York Daily News, by Joseph Straw , Erin Durkin

Original Article

Posted By:Toledo, 1/3/2013 7:37:42 AM

Facing a storm of outrage, House Speaker John Boehner did an about face Wednesday and promised to quickly pass $60 billion in Hurricane Sandy aid - a day after abruptly canceling a vote on the package.Officials from New York and surrounding states had spent much of the day blasting Boehner for initially yanking the Sandy aid from consideration. Some of the fiercest criticism came from fellow Republicans. His voice shaking, Rep. Pete King (R-Long Island) took to the House floor Wednesday morning to launch an extraordinary attack on Boehner, his political leader.

Wow, no surprise here. Can someone, anyone, please tell Boehner it is time to resign.

Just go away.

Is Pete King a conservative only when the money is needed somewhere else?Christy?

Get the pork out of the bill first, then vote on it.

Storm relief isn´t the federal governments job anyway.

Could it be that this was his plan all along and that it´s not an "about face" at all? Could it be he wanted to deal with the "fiscal cliff", get it off his plate, then immediately get cracking on Sandy aid?

Shouldn´t get one dime. If you need flood insurance, get out your local Yellow Pages and call one of the phone numbers.

Plus, see how NJ Transit lost hundreds of millions of dollars of railroad cars because they left them in the flood plain. NYC Police did something as stupid as well with one of their auto impound facilities.

Why reward incompetence?

To Hell with all of them. NJ, NY, King, Christie, Boehner ... all of them. My favorite part of King´s bitchy outburst was when he acted like GOP fundraising on his turf can only be done with his approval. I´d get banned for saying what needs to be done to men like him.

Typical. If $10 billion will do, throw $60 billion at it. And if anyone objects then they are just cruel and heartless. Just a fine example of why we are in the financial mess we are in.

And it appears the only way to ever right this sinking liberaalized ship is for it all to collapse.

So don´t be too scared. Whatever we must go through will simply be what must happen when the parasite of liberalism finds a host and sucks the lifeblood out of it.

As it always does. It´s coming.

A lesson about insurance:
Insurance for your home is purchased from the company of your choice, for fire, theft, etc. In my state, an additional Hurrican policy can be purchased, again from the company of choice..it is expensive, and carries a 2% of total value of home deductible.
Flood insurance is NOT sold by insurance companies, but can be purchased from FEMA.
I carry all three and pay the premiums.
My understanding is that FEMA has not paid a single claim in NJ or NY after 66 days.

Reply 12 - Posted by: Chuzzles, 1/3/2013 8:39:00 AM     (No. 9096121)

Can you imagine the outrage at Bush if that situation had been going on after Katrina #11? Maybe King and Boehner need to direct their ire at Obama and FEMA instead of ripping off the taxpayers with another edition of the pork express.

Reply 13 - Posted by: MisterDickens, 1/3/2013 8:45:27 AM     (No. 9096134)

#11, thanks for the lesson on insurance but I can´t afford the insurance because the payment on my BMW consumes too much of my discretionary funds.

Well, I guess that´s not the whole reason. We like to eat out often at Ruth´s Chris Steakhouse, too. And then there´s my wife´s penchant for shopping at Neiman´s and our need to vacation in Europe every year. Oh, and there´s that pesky house payment, itself, which we could only qualify for through shenanigans.

Those, #11, are the reasons you need to pay for my loss instead of expecting me to cover it myself. God you´re heartless, #11.

There were too many riders (pork) on the bill, for GitMo, Alaska, Ohio, Georgia. And this was the week when the GOP was trying to limit spending!
The Speaker has promised to start presenting another bill tomorrow and I believe him.
And...why hasn´t FEMA paid out any money yet? Are they expecting the taxpayers to bail out the NE?

For the people that had flood insurance, FEMA is responsible to make payment to them.

I get the feeling that if you think Boehner is wrong then you approve the billions of pork that was stuffed into the bill.
Well, I don´t approve of it and think those responsible should be held accountable. Let them be the ones to explain to those waiting for help as to why they aren´t getting it.

Everyone has their hand out to the American voter. We have become a nation of beggars. Personal responsibility has gone by the wayside. The choices you make regarding where you want to live has consequences. I can´t understand why some Americans are more equal than others. Some parts of the country receive aid and others get nothing. Who make these decisions? One thing is for cetain these aid bills need to stand alone.

I think it is important to remember that this is all George W. Bush´s fault. After all, if Brownie had not left FEMA in such bad shape during and after Katrina, then The Won would not have inherited this FEMA mess that he is "hard at work" to clean up and make right. Had Bush done the job correctly Ears would have more time to jet to Hawaii and play golf with his fellow problem solvers. As it is he has to give up multiple rounds of golf each week in order to focus on the TOTUS, solver of all Bush problems. Had Bush had such a miracle device as the All Knowing, All Seeing TOTUS, then all would be right with the United States as The Won leads us to the Marxist promised land.

Hurricanes, in my area, are a fact of life. Buy insurance and if you live in a flood zone buy flood insurance. On some policies you can add a rider for cost of living coverage when an incident occurs that makes your home uninhabitable.

President Obama is giving back 5% of his $400,000 salary to show solidarity with federal workers hit by the dread sequester. That’s not much of a nick to a man who has no worries about living expenses and has plenty of independent income, to boot. But, hey, symbolism counts. It’s an appropriate gesture for a debate about debt and deficits that’s shallow, thanks in no small part to Obama. The dread sequester — remember that? — went into effect one month ago, following weeks of presidential fear-mongering about the automatic cuts.

One of the ongoing perplexities of President Obama’s Syria policy has been the stark contrast between his muscular rhetoric and halting, hesitant actions. On the one hand, he has insisted that the country’s dictator Bashar al-Assad “must” go and has predicted that his fall is all but assured. But on the other, he has thus far limited himself to authorizing aid in the form of training and intelligence for Syria’s beleaguered rebels.
