Welcome all Ldotters, old and new. If you are not yet registered do so, it takes but a minute, and join our annual virtual New Year´s party. 2012 has not been a terrific year. We want to hear from you about 2013 and what you are hoping for. If you have a covered dish. Put it on the buffet. Igor is behind the bar and will get you whatever your heart desires. Relax, you are among like minded friends.
OK, so I tried to compose something different that was just as heartfelt and sincere as all the previous posts. But the posts before me say it all. This is the first site I check when I go to my computer and is always the last I check before turning in at night.
Our dogs are freaked out with the fireworks going on around the area. So I keep leaving and coming back. When I re-read what has been written already, I realize someone just said what I would have liked to have said.....So, I’ll just add my contribution to the table and thank you all for always being there.
I tossed most of 2 bricks of cream cheese in the blender. Added about a cup of mayo and about a 1/2 cup of sliced jalapeños from a jar ( I started with about 1/3 cup and added a little more as I blended to taste).
I added about a Tablespoon of the jalapeño juice because it was pretty thick and a little heavy cream too - I had some in the fridge from Christmas...Maybe a 1/4 cup or so until it was the proper thickness.
My husband tried it and thinks it tastes just like jalapeño poppers. The only thing I’d do differently is not make so much. I was just trying to use up things in the fridge.
I hope you enjoy it. Oh, there goes another fireworks BANG! There go the dogs, headed downstairs....
Bless every one of you. Wishing you all the very best in 2013.
There´s never been a more vindictive, unsuitable person in the White House. The good news there are at least one million good citizens watching, or trying to watch his every dictatorial move. Bilary´s in bed with another even more evil than she is, and right now her life is on the line and she knows it and remembers Vince, Ron, all The Friends of Bill who died prematurely over one hundred victims. Lucianne, one of America´s finest fighters for truth and honesty, and the 24/7 superb news gathering and attitude pushing that you do like no other....the most serious, and soooo funny on top of it all. I love you
Happy New Year all you wonderful people. Lucianne and staff, thank you so much. We opened our bottle of champagne and toasted along with Rio de Janeiro. No need to stay up late with Ryan Seacrest.
Big yellow dog is curled into a ball under the table. She DOES NOT like fireworks. There have been many days lately when I´ve wanted to do the same. This too shall pass; we only have +-1480 days to go...
We put our Army daughter on the plane yesterday and she is on her way back to Korea after spending two weeks leave with us so I´m feeling a little blue. Want to wish all of you, Lucianne, the staff, as well as all of the posters a very Happy New Year. As a New Year´s resolution, I encourage all of you to spend time in prayer every day for our country.
Wishing everyone here a wonderful New Year. Pray for our country. There are laws of nature that cannot be thwarted that will be coming into focus soon. Debts must be paid. You can´t print money indefinitely. So pay off your houses. Plant a garden. Keep your loved ones close. Pray. We will be ok.
Happy New Year to one and all! Thank you Mrs. Lucianne and staff. What a terrific job you all do. Thank you for this great site. Right now I am still making the rounds, so many good friends already here to say hi to and hug, but please save me a spot at the bar. I haven´t had a drink since Nov. 6 and I need one after that shocker. Little he is not in command, God is. Never give up hope. I wish you all a very Happy New Year with all the very best of God´s peace and blessings.
Happy New Year to all and a big thanks to Lucianne & Co for providing such a great site and allowing me to participate with great community of people!!! Bring in a good New Year everybody! See ya next year!
Eagles Up and Happy New Year to All L-Dotters. Special 365 days a year thanks to the staff at Lucianne for keeping us all sane and heading in the right direction.
Been down so long that it looks like up, especially since Nov. 6th. Still, glad to see that the One dropped 5 points in approval rating this week. Begging people to attend the coronation also bespeaks a loss of glow for the annointed one. Hoping for millions more to have their eyes opened in 2013.
I want to say thank you Lucianne for giving us this site and The Connection. When my husband passed Sept. 2011, my friends on The Connection helped me through and prayed for my husband and family. Going into 2013, I´m hoping to start realizing a new normal and help my kids continue to heal.
My kids are watching a New Year´s Eve special this evening -- waiting for the ball to drop -- and every 5 minutes my son walks in to tell how inappropriately the ladies in there are dressed. Now he´s screaming at his sister to turn it off! Got to go!
Hope everyone had a big family Christmas and continue with a happy New Year and a prosperous one. Forgive the typing - brain surgery did nothing good for my skill. I want to thank the best hostess of all time and the trouble and work put into this site. We all know who I am talking about. Love the fellow posters and look forward to their posts. I am not going to mention the O word or politics. I am crazy enough with that subject. Love to all and let´s have a better year, this one was a doozy of face slaps to Republicans. My Posey cat is trying to get on my lap so I cannot type. She pretty much does as she pleases. Goodnight and will check for more posts later on.
I know everyone feels as blessed as I do to have such a wonderful family that we have here.So appreciative of Miz Lucianne and all of the staff. As grim as things may look..we will get thru this and come out stronger for it..I just know we will..Prayers for all of our military and for all those that we have lost.We will prevail!! Eagles up!! and GOD BLESS US,EVERYONE.
New Year greetings to LDOT friends, Mz Lucianne & staff. Thank you for providing a corner of sanity in this insane, beautiful world. God bless U.S. everyone. "Faith is believing in things when common sense tells you not to."--Maureen O´Hara from Miracle on 34th street. Keep the faith and God will see us through!
Well just so you know,,,,,Lucie´s TV in the Den is on & I/m down here with a garlic bread sammisch,2 clams,a glass of Glenfiddich and some gal with her tee shirt which reads " freakin fiscal cliff." On the back it reads " I don´t hold hands with Socialists"
I started to play the "Pipes" and she said "blow hard Honey," the strains of the Black Watch will drive those "cake eaters in DC nuts"
Echoing so many previous sentiments - thank to our lovely and gracious hostess, who I want to be like when I grow up, and her staff. Pinchem, what a marvelous New Year´s greeting! Photoonist, Hazymac, CAP marine, and others no longer here, we love and miss you.
There is so much over which to be discouraged. I am determined to not cave in. I think L.Dotters were somehow inoculated against Statism and the nasty germs that bring it on.
At least now the progs are starting to talk about the Constitution rather than simply pretending it doesn´t exist. The piece in the NYTimes today on scrapping it will be helpful to us in crafting counter arguments.
May God look with favor on his humble servants and hear our cries and prayers for this grand nation. Love to all and Happy New Year from Ramona (the Pest)
Happy New Year to Lucianne and every LDotter. Since the dawn of the first government people have figured out how to get around it. We will make it through this trial. Sure do miss Photoonist, Hazymac and Cap. God bless everyone, God bless America.
I, honestly, would like to thank everyone here. But I´ll start with the staff. I had several problems this year when Lucianne.com changed servers. I couldn´t access the site because I live outside the US, in the Philippines. I inquired and with no prodding or pleading on my part the staff stepped right up and fixed the problem. You girls and guys ( I mean men and women) didn’t have to do that. I appreciated it very much. Next I´d like to thank the article posters. You folks keep me and many American Ex-Pats around the world up to date on events in the land of my birth. I love the United States but I fear for the future. I will be moving all of my assets out of dollars this year because I despise Obama´s incompetence, blithe mendacity and unhinged narcissism. And finally I want to thank my fellow posters. I very much enjoy your views. I don´t always agree but it gives me a good idea as to how people in America, right now, see current events. Have a great "Year of the Snake" .
To Lucianne, our much esteemed hostess, and unsung American Heroine, and her inestimable staff, thank you , thank you, thank you for all you do to give us hope and always, a laugh. To my fellow L-Dotters, love , prayers, and thanks too.Happy New Year and all God´s blessings to one and all.
Happy New Year to Miss Lucianne, all your wonderful staff and to all Ldotters. I seldom post, but read everyday. Out here in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia, you are an oasis of sanity. May you all have a blessed and peaceful 2013.
I´m late to the party, but I see it´s still going strong. And the place smells like heaven, thanks to Lawsy´s yummy sandwiches!
I´d like to add my very best wishes for a Happy, Healthy New Year, to Lucianne, Igor and all the faithful Staff. And to all the brilliant Ldotters that post here. You feel like family...only likable. LOL! Cheers!
I raise a glass to Lucianne and the staff for what they do and to my fellow posters for their wisdom and fortitude. I also miss Photoonist and Cap.
I was also in a dark place after the election. Took me a while to recover from the shock. (Here´s irony for you: I had predicted the electoral count 331-207. It was 332-206. Phenomenal guess, right? Except I had Romney winning.)
Over the years, some of you have asked me to put together a collection of my satire posts which appeared here and at Breitbart´s during my time as a contributor there. I´m working on it.
The tentative plan: an e book, $0.99, proceeds to be donated to lucianne.com. I´m figuring about 80-100 ´´columns,´´ with the material updated and revised. Target: spring.
Have purchased my ´´Publishing E-Books for Dummies´´ but haven´t cracked it yet. I said ´´tentative´´ earlier because I don´t know yet what difficulties might present themselves to cause me to drop the project: writer´s block, lack of experience in self-publishing, unforeseen obstacles/costs, so forth. Best laid plans, etc. We´ll see.
Happy New Year to Lucianne, Steadfast Staff, and fellow Ldotters from balmy Mat-Su Valley. Our mini Schnauzer, Natasha, has had two doggy downers and is still unsettled by the fireworks. My neighbors must have money to burn (literally), as they have been setting of fireworks yesterday evening and tonight for the past four hours.
I heard a strange noise a bit ago and thought the wind was blowing something about. It was a moose that´s been hanging around our backyard who was also agitated by the fireworks; sounded like a very large horse snorting. I don´t have enough doggy downers to help him and wouldn´t want to try and dose him either. I guess the dogs won´t be going outside for a while; they´ll just have to hold it a bit. Dear Lucianne and Friends I haven´t forgotten the goodie box; just got delayed a bit.
Here´s an easy hot dip for you to try: Artichoke dip 8 oz. cream cheese (soft), 1/2 c. mayo, 14 oz. can artichoke hearts, 1 c. parmesan cheese, 1/2 tsp. garlic powder. Combine in blender or processor. Bake at 350 about 15 minutes, till bubbly. Enjoy and a blessed New Year to All.
Happy New Year! Just returned from my son´s wedding! Much fun but exhausted. And it is very hard to get folks to leave by the time the venue says they have to close. But I wanted to wish a better new year for all. We can hope.
#147, Sagman, unless our Hostess contacts you re publishing, Daughter #3 in Manila, has online Kindle publishing and marketing [the key!] business and would be happy to help get you started ... residual income stream, plus Big 5 hard back is goal... yes? She is MBA grad from Tulane and NYU editing and publishing and will be back in CA in Feb...
America needs Conservative Thought published, articulated well, and on paper... if serious, email HisHandmaiden8@gmail.com unless Miss Lucianne offers her expertise...
be sure to lay in a lot of Cipro. IT is great for radiation sickness. sorrty to be a downer but I am optomistic we can ssurvive the world designs on all our empty land; Irish democracy- every state issued edict is met with truculence and bad attitudes and deemands for exlanations and showing up to fill the lines with people who really don´t want theservice,That is to monky wrench the plan.
Thank you, Lucianne, Staff, and all Ldotters for making this political mess bearable. Just now tried to remember when and how I found this place -- can´t remember -- but it was my lucky day. Wish you all a better 2013. Keep the faith.
Got to go do Must Reads now. Get some rest my friends. Thanks for stopping by. As a New Year´s token we are going to leave this thread open for comments about the momentous overnight voting. God bless and keep you all.
Ms Lucianne may have a file of WRT´s somewhere, however, I have been collecting a few (25) WRT´s throughout the past 10 years and finally have them cataloged, zipped and online. You may peruse the list and feel free to download any you wish to read. With some of the older ones, it is sort of like walking through Memory Lane.
There are multiple pages in each WRT so I zipped them up to keep them together. You can use pkunzip or rar to open them to read. Enjoy
My hope for 2013 is that we might return our country to that which was bequeathed to us by our forefathers. Their one fatal design flaw was in neglecting to give us term limits, so we must limit the terms ourselves if we are to save this great country. This will necessitate the expulsion of all house and senate members who come up for election in 2014, with the exception of the few who stood by the Constitution and limited government in recent votes. We need to work in 2013 toward that end as we approach the 2014 elections. And yes, even my representative and yours need to go!
#159, Happy thought but not realistic. Think...let´s take the Senate that has majority of Democrats. If we threw out all those up for reelection in 2014 that means we lose all Republican Seniority and the Democrats will control the Senate until those die off and the newbees gain Seniority (in how many years?).
We may have to hold our tongue and keep some we may not care for but just remember, MAJORITY is what RULES in both the House and Senate.
#161 Seniority has not been working for us. They just become infatuated with their own power. I am sick of the current system that results in 5 people telling the other 535 how to vote!!!! We have no representation under this system of power brokers. Our only hope is to clean house...and senate. Cut off the nose and the face.
Since the early dark days of the Clinton era, our gracious hostess has provided an intellectual refuge for conservatives; the coffee´s always on, somebody refilled the ice cube trays, the last guy remembers to wash the brandy snifters and reorder the Hennessey. No longer content to wait two weeks for the next National Review to leave our fingers stained with blue ink, we now huddle and stay warm by the glow of Ldot. May the discussions remain intellectually honest and in good humor and may the cherished wayward regulars come back in due course to where their ideas are valued and needed. 2014 cannot come soon enough.
From snowy, brisk, and coldly crisp northern Michigan comes sincere gratitude and loving best wishes for a happy, blessed, joyous, hope-filled New year to dearest Lucianne and staff; to each and every Lucianne.com poster, reader, and commenter; to every single member of our precious military, past and present - both home and away (and all the members of their families); to every person who works daily and tirelessly to serve and protect us; and to all those who strive with their words and their deeds to preserve this great nation as the land of the free and home of the brave.
There is a pitcher of mixed Mimosas, a tray of hot Bacon-Corn Griddle Cakes along with little browned sausages, a basket of Angel Biscuits, and a festive plate of Chocolate glazed Cherry Croissants at the end of the counter for anyone who may now be looking for a little food after last night’s festivities.
To all: "May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace." Numbers 6:24
Gosh, a lot of us must have hangovers - I expected to find 3 or four pages of threads from our friends in Lucianne Land. I am afraid that I cannot, went back to sleep and am completely disorientated now. Have a good day and wish I had a hangover but cannot drink my scotch or vodka martinis. With age comes medicines that do not allow it. Later

Thank you, Miss Lucianne and your wonderful, intrepid staff. Throughout these dreadful days you are a source of good humor, intelligence, and old-fashioned classiness. Welcome 2013... please be a better year than 2012.
Happy New Year Miss Lucianne, staff and LDot. patriots.
4 below here in the mountains of Central Idaho. Going out to help the hubby feed the stock then wait for somes friends to snowmachine in for some target practice with our new Christmas toys. Then Bloody Marys, Momosas and loads of fattening goodies.
To Cap, Haymac and Photoonist, please come back, we need each and every Patriot to get through this.
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil, is that good men do nothing" Edmund Burke
Happy 2013 New Year to Lucianne, her great team and to all LDotters present and past.
Count me in the group who can´t stomach TV news since the election. It´s old movies, reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond and the Animal Planet. Vowing to shop only the perimeter of the grocery store and stay healthy.
The Senate bill doesn´t raise taxes on the 400K crowd. Isn´t that what a U.S. President makes per year? How convenient.
Vowing to be debt free by the end of 2013 and stash some more cash. Stay strong, y´all and love your animals.
Its not really a very happy new year here in Lefty America so I´ll just say thank you Lucianne for this great salon. A healthy and prosperpous New Year to you and yours... And a pox on all you damnable commie agitators in the White House, in our states, in the ass-press, in academia, and all over the satanic television shows and commercials foisted upon us by idiot liberal creeps.
Even though the New Year party has passed, I wanted to wish the LDotter family, God speed and to keep spirits high. Our severely listing to port ship will right itself. It may take time, but it will sail again. Don´t let fear get in the way of winning and freedom.
The NotaBenes were busy last night watching movies, eating, drinking and enjoying each other´s company. Our son taught us to watch Netflix streaming and has been a wonderful thing. Stopped watching TV on November 6.
We still cannot believe Romney will not be our next President and it is difficult to believe we have four more years of this pResident.
Thank you Lucianne for keeping this website going, we read the posts all the time to keep us sane, not posting much lately. We also love the connection, Yotty and Nu´s adventures, Rake King´s movie quizzes, book recommendations.
God bless all Ldotters, Ms. Lucianne and all of you that keep this website going and God bless this beautiful country.
Happy New Year to LDotters and Ms. Lucianne and staff! You are a big part of my day! Up late like everyone ushering in the new year, and side by side with a terrific win for Clemson in Chick-fil-a-bowl. Hubby, son and I will be walking on air for a while. They won in last few seconds with a 37 yard field goal. How sweet! Pork roast in oven, with collards soaking, saffron rice and blackeyed peas all done, and hopping john in the works. We will eat up around 6 and toast our wonderful country. As someone said, we survived the civil war, War I and II, Korean and Vietnam Wars, so gut feeling is that O will not destroy us. Don´t believe that the biggest loser ever will last 4 more years, I believe he will be found out and resign, just my deep feelings. Prayers for a glorious new year and love to all the true Americans out there!
#167 If we fire enough of them the rest of them should start to listen to their voters more than their "leaders". The "leaders" are interested in only one thing - maintaining their power. They are only tapping the brakes lightly as we barrel toward the inevitable high speed collision. I do not believe we can keep doing the same thing and get different results. When is John Galt going to show up?
#179, I think they will come back, eventually. I have been gone for awhile myself, having been just about crushed by the shocking outright theft of the election and the realization we were in for 4 more years of the Obama.
Sorry to come in late here. Between cooking and celebrating with my family, I´ve been busy. I´m also thankful both my husband and I have jobs. Neither one is a job we thought we´d be doing at our ages, but both jobs are fun and interesting. More important, they keep us warm here in the Frozen North and put food on our table.
I´ve stopped wishing and praying for prosperity in the new year. Not that I´ve lost faith - I know He hears me. I´ll be grateful to God if my family just hangs on.
Happy New Year I am so proud of my family as they continue to stride forward and the love they spread to each other. Our College kids new and currant have been blessed with an extended family vow they will be able to continue to sop up all the education they can. They will not have to borrow or go hungry as family will be there with combined resources. The younger children are filled with the joy of childhood without fears pressed onto them. We follow the word of the Lord and place our lives in those cupped hands. My wish for all of you is look back to the days when life was that simple and we will recover our honor.
I wish you all a healthy and better year than 2012! We will have a very difficult time trudging along for the next four years. And I don´t have high hopes anymore for the future of this once-great nation. Most of the voters are morons-and that includes most of my family and friends. I can´t believe how hard it is to try to make them understand what is going on in this country! So much worse than trying to teach those college freshman English courses at the beginning of my career!! And I thought those kids were dense! This forum is one of the few places I can find solace and like minds, and I thank God every day for Lucuianne, her staff, and all of you wonderful people. Keep praying.
I emailed cap Marine recently, and he is doing well. He will not be returning to the forum but not because of the election. He is busy doing God´s work, and wishes everyone a blessed life. Happy New Year.
My Mom loves to watch the Barrett Jackson auction in Scottsdale - they have been having right now (on the SPEED channel) we are looking at mouth-watering cars that remind us of "the good old days" -
but then they have to have these ads for some really scary looking movie and we scramble to change the channel ASAP - don´t they know that watching these auctions is a form of escapism, of not wanting to watch the news or think about the 2012 election - but to go back in time - also, nice to see someone laying out a whole bunch of money to help support returning military and their families - so WHY do they need to have ads like this? We don´t even know what movie it is and shouldn´t they think that the people that want to watch the car auction are not the same people who want to watch these horrible movies - I just don´t get it.
And WHO ARE the people that want to go see movies like that? Mom and I think they are the ones who need to be "registered" - more so than gun owners!
Just getting this off my chest - thank you very much.

On Sunday night, I wrote a short post soliciting stories from my readers about how Obamacare has already immediately impacted their lives. I asked that all of these emails be directed to ObamacareMakesMeSick@Yahoo.com. I expected a response; I didn’t expect it to be quite so overwhelming. Over the last 24 hours, my inbox has been flooded with hundreds of emails. What you’ll read in this post represents a portion of them. I’m only one guy (with a fulltime job and twins) — I wasn’t able to go through every single message just yet. Some, I left out because the information
The recent theft of massive amounts of highly sensitive U.S. military equipment from Libya is far worse than previously thought, Fox News has learned, with raiders swiping hundreds of weapons that are now in the hands of militia groups aligned with terror organizations and the Muslim Brotherhood. The equipment, as Fox News previously reported, was used for training in Libya by U.S. Special Forces. The training team, which was funded by the Pentagon, has since been pulled, partly in response to the overnight raids last August. According to State Department and military sources, dozens of highly armored vehicles called GMV´s, provided
Details buried in the United Nations report on the Syrian chemical weapons attack point directly at elite military formations loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, some of the strongest findings to date that suggest the government gassed its own people. A weapons inspector collecting samples near Damascus. The inspectors, instructed to investigate the attack but not to assign blame, nonetheless listed the precise compass directions of flight for two rocket strikes that appeared to lead back toward the government’s elite redoubt in Damascus, Mount Qasioun, which overlooks and protects neighborhoods and Mr. Assad’s presidential palace and where his Republican Guard and the army’s
UNITED NATIONS – U.N. inspectors said Monday there was "clear and convincing evidence" that chemical weapons were used on a relatively large scale in an attack last month in Syria that killed hundreds of people. They said positive blood and urine specimens provided definitive evidence of exposure to the nerve agent sarin by a large proportion of the survivors assessed by investigators. These results were corroborated by clinical assessments, which documented symptoms and signs consistent with nerve agent exposure. The inspectors in a report said "the environmental, chemical and medical samples we have collected provide clear and convincing evidence that surface-to-surface rockets
(Article leads with chart) A Gallup poll conducted last month provides a powerful tribute to the wonders of Fox News. Gallup posed a wide-open question to more than 2,000 adults across the country: “Thinking about various sources of news available today, what would you say is your main source of news about current events in the U.S. and around the world?”The winner was “television” as a basket category, at 26 percent. The “Internet” took second place with 18 percent. And then came Fox News, at 8 percent.
“If you tell the truth you don’t have to remember anything.” -Mark Twain - It’s become clear to us that Ambassador Stevens was someone who cared deeply about his work to promote American diplomacy in Libya. He was one of four heroes who perished on September 11th, 2012 in the Benghazi attack.Stevens’ diary has never been made public, until now. It was first discovered and reported on, in brief, by CNN, but the news network soon caved in to outside pressure, most likely from President Obama’s staff, and ceased reporting on it all together.
Reacting to the news that the administration’s National Security Agency has been collecting the phone records of every American customer of at least one telephone service provider, the New York Times minced no words in a scathing editorial criticizing the practice and the lack of forthrightness from the White House. “The administration has now lost all credibility,” the Times editorial read. “Mr. Obama is proving the truism that the executive will use any power it is given and very likely abuse it.”
Credible sources indicate that the president of the United States watched in real time what might well be called the Benghazi snuff film.Among those sources is retired Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer. At the time of the assault, Shaffer relates, two U.S. drones were hovering to the consulate and recorded the final hours of the attack, which killed U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other brave Americans (From LCom Archive originally published November ´12)
The murderer is the new celebrity. He emerges out of nowhere with a rags to mass murder story, and is swiftly accorded all the trappings of fame. Reporters track down anyone who knew him to learn about his childhood and his main influences. Relatives and friends both contribute fuzzy anecdotes, mostly indistinguishable from the ones they would present if he were competing on American Idol or running for president.
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
Bill Clinton, the cliché goes, was the first black president, no matter his skin color. That being the case, Barack Obama is not the first black president, or the first African-American president, if you prefer, but the first hippie president. Clinton’s southern background and lifestyle were indeed more typically black, just as Obama’s was more typically hippie. And we’re not just talking about the “Choom gang” here, scarfing “Maui Wowie” on the sands of Oahu. We’re talking about all of it, the whole multi-culti-missing-white-mother-vanished-Kenyan-father-anti-imperialist-America-is-always-the-enemy-and-don’t-you-forget-it-nine-yards. And like most hippie culture as I knew and experienced it, it wasn’t about “peace and love.” Not
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Nineteen people stood behind President Obama on stage in the Executive Office Building Tuesday as the president kicked off a new campaign to promote Obamacare. One of those people, a young Florida woman named Monica Weeks, introduced Obama after telling the story of being struck with Crohn´s Disease at age 19 and receiving expensive treatments for several years that were covered by her parents´ health care plan — because Obamacare allowed her to remain on that plan until age 26. Now, Weeks said, she has coverage through a job. "The Affordable Care Act gives young adults who are just starting
MSNBC has announced that Chris Matthews, Barack Obama´s most excitable fan, will be interviewing the President on Thursday´s Hardball. Fawning over the liberal politician is incredibly common among journalists, but Matthews has taken it to a whole new level. According to the network host, Obama is a "perfect," "cool," brilliant figure who is comparable to Jesus, Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. The verbose Matthews has no filter when it comes to the Democrat, even once bizarrely blurting out that an Obama speech made him "forget" that the commander in chief "was black." To prepare you for the likely love-fest
Continued global warming poses a risk of rapid, drastic changes in some human and natural systems, a scientific panel warned Tuesday, citing the possible collapse of polar sea ice, the potential for a mass extinction of plant and animal life and the threat of immense dead zones in the ocean. At the same time, some worst-case fears about climate change that have entered the popular imagination can be ruled out as unlikely, at least over the next century, the panel found. These include a sudden belch of methane from the ocean or the Arctic that would fry the planet, as
Nobody could accuse the press of ignoring the fiasco-on-a-server that is HealthCare.gov. The Obamacare website’s woes are dominating coverage on the network news, the cable talk shows, the blogs and, of course, high-octane websites like POLITICO. But did the press do a good job of covering the Affordable Care Act before the health care exchanges went online—sort of—on Oct. 1? Were we adequately warned of the troubles that were to come? And now that HealthCare.gov’s problems are headline news, is the coverage of it any better? Sure, one can find a few examples of one news outlet or another warning of impending
MSNBC´s Chris Matthews will interview President Barack Obama this Thursday, the network announced Tuesday. The interview is part of Matthews´ "Hardball College Tour," and will take place at American University in Washington, D.C. According to a news release from MSNBC, Matthews, along with university students, will "discuss a variety of topics with the president including voter suppression, healthcare, the decline of confidence in the government and the overall political dysfunction in Washington." On Monday our colleagues Carrie Budoff Brown and Jonathan Allen reported that the White House is launching a coordinated campaign to return attention to why the Affordable Care Act
