Piers Morgan threatens to self-deport over gun control

| Update: Piers Morgan is taking a cue from Mitt Romney´s pre-election immigration platform and threatening to deport himself if the U.S. fails to crack down on guns. In a Sunday column for the Daily Mail, Morgan responded to some viewers unhappy with the British CNN anchor´s vocal pro-gun control stance: The concerted effort to get me thrown out of the country – which has so far gathered more than 90,000 signatures – struck me as rather ironic, given that by expressing my opinion I was merely exercising my rights, as a legal US resident, under the 1st Amendment, which protects free speech.
|
Comments: Try this one, idiot. Put a gun to your head and see who tries to stop you.
Hates the 2nd Amendment but wraps himself around the 1st.

Though I have never watched his program, this certainly seems to be an exceedingly annoying individual. He is probably receiving a lot more attention than he warrants - if he warrants any attention at all. It would probably be better just to ignore people like him. Making a free speech martyr of him by seeking to deport him is preposterous. The very idea assigns an importance to him and his opinions that neither appear to merit. Who, after all, is Piers Morgan, that Americans should be mindful of him?

How many US citizens given an opportunity to host a show on the BBC would get away denigrating the royal family or the British government or British citizens for that matter. He is a typical ingrate and he knows it. I read UK web sites. They can be delightfully insightful about the US, but they can be extremely obtuse at the same time. I bet he does not have the gonads to critize all religions or other sacred books other than the Bible.

Half this country has no viable outlet to protest what obama and the left are doing to this country,so you see petitions like this and secession movements as acts of desperation to get a point across.
People can´t stand american liberals challenging gun ownership, then along comes a foreigner piling on rubbing more salt in the wound.
Morgan loves all the attention he´s getting from this hoping more people will watch his show when all he´s done is invite boycotters.

This story has real legs. This is at least the third, maybe there´s been more, article about Piers on this site. I´ve seen similar articles at maybe 25 different sites and it´s also on TV. This is best thing that´s ever happened to Piers. A couple of weeks ago almost no one knew who he was and his show was going to be cancelled. Now he´s the talk of the nation. He firmly believes bad PR is better than being ignored. I thought it was funny but I´d hate to see him make money off it.

Welcome to the 21st century President Clinton! The chief executive who guided America on to the Information Superhighway revealed he didn’t have a Twitter page — until comedian Stephen Colbert got a handle on this low-tech travesty. Amazingly, Clinton said he was too shy and insecure to start his own Twitter page. (Snip) A laughing and mildly embarrassed Clinton took the bait, and dictated his first tweet under the @PrezBillyJeff handle. “Just spent amazing time with Colbert! Is he sane? He is cool! #cgiu” Colbert told the president: “Sir welcome to the future.”

San Francisco & New York - Google Inc said on Tuesday it plans to bring its ultra high-speed Internet and television service to Austin, Texas, next year, prompting AT&T Inc to reveal its own plans to follow suit - if it gets the same terms from local authorities. AT&T appeared to be making a political point to highlight the heavy regulations that encumber traditional phone companies, analysts said. Google promised to begin connecting homes in Austin by the middle of 2014 with a 1-gigabit-per-second Internet service, roughly 13 times faster than the speediest service AT&T had

New Orleans - Louisiana lawmakers on Tuesday questioned the wisdom of eliminating the state´s income tax without raising sales taxes, one day after Governor Bobby Jindal said he would delay his plan to scrap the income tax. (Snip) Instead he called on lawmakers to pass their own plan and "send me a bill to get rid of these taxes." His plan would have eliminated all state personal and corporate income taxes. It also called for a 56 percent increase in the state sales tax, a much higher cigarette tax, and the elimination of some tax loopholes to make up the $3 billion shortfall from abolishing

Bahrain on Tuesday became the first Arab country to blacklist Hizbullah as a terrorist organization, the Al Arabiya network reports. The move came a week after the Bahraini parliament voted to label the group a terrorist organization. Its alleged backing and training of radical Shiite groups against Bahrain was the main reason given for the decision, the report said. The Bahraini cabinet has tasked the interior and foreign ministries with implementing the decision. “The measure is to protect Bahrain’s security and stability from Hezbollah’s threats,” Bahraini MP Adil al-Asoumi told Al Arabiya.

The biggest border crossing between North Korea and China has been closed to tourist groups, a Chinese official says, as nuclear tensions mounted, but business travel was allowed to continue. "Travel agencies are not allowed to take tourist groups to go there, since the North Korean government is now asking foreign people to leave," the official at the Dandong Border Office said. "As far as I know, business people can enter and leave North Korea freely," added the official, who declined to give his name, without making clear which country had ordered the move.

Wyoming Republican Sen. Mike Enzi may be gearing up to run for re-election in 2014, but that doesn’t mean Liz Cheney is ruling out a run for the Senate seat now. A source close to the politically active daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney tells The Daily Caller that she is still seriously considering running. Over the weekend, The Casper Star Tribune reported that Enzi told a meeting of the GOP state party committee that he is looking forward to running for re-election — something he has yet to formally announce. An Enzi spokesman confirmed the senator’s remarks.

North Korea appears to be preparing a fourth underground nuclear weapons test at Punggye-ri, the site of its previous test, a South Korean government source says. Pyongyang appeared to be making preparations for the test, according to a South Korean government source speaking to the country’s Joong Ang Daily newpaper. This comes on the heels of the South’s defence ministry reports that Pyongyang could perform a mid-range missile test-launch by Wednesday – also the deadline it has given to foreign diplomats to evacuate, as their safety would reportedly no longer be guaranteed

Bridgewater, N.J. - Like clockwork, they´re coming back -- after 17 years. "They" would be cicadas, the big, noisy bugs that climb out of the earth about every decade and a half to make everyone´s life more exciting. Experts tell Gannett News Service that the bugs live underground and feed off fluid that gathers near the roots of plants, then emerge from the soil when its temperature reaches 64 degrees. They´re largely harmless, but their sheer numbers can cause headaches. Some areas could see as many as a billion of the cicadas per square mile. That can lead to a lot of dead bugs all over roadways

Caracas - Hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan opposition supporters rallied in a staunchly pro-government part of the capital on Sunday, answering a call by their candidate Henrique Capriles and showing strength a week before the presidential election. "Today the streets of Caracas are full of happiness and hope, confirming what will happen next Sunday," Capriles, the 40-year-old governor of Miranda state, told the crowd. Capriles faces acting President Nicolas Maduro, who has vowed to continue the hard-line socialism of his late boss, Hugo Chavez, if he wins the April 14 election.

Snoop Lion made bold comments about gay marriage and rap music, even addressing singer Frank Ocean´s coming out. Snoop, 41, who has spoken in favor of marriage equality before, was asked by The Guardian if he believed the R&B singer´s declaration of having loved a man meant gay relationships would soon be accepted in the rap community. "Frank Ocean ain´t no rapper," Snoop is quoted as saying. "He´s a singer. It´s acceptable in the singing world, but in the rap world I don´t know if it will ever be acceptable because rap is so masculine."

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

Chelsea Clinton has raised her profile in the last few days, which sparked the inevitable question about the former first daughter´s future: Will she ever be like Mom and Dad and run for office? Clinton, 33, essentially said "maybe" in an interview that aired Monday on NBC´s Today show. "Right now I´m grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative," said Clinton, whose father, Bill, was president from 1993-2001 and her mother, Hillary

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....

More than six months since Ambassador Christopher Stevens was assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi, the Obama administration is still trying to keep a lid on information about the attack. Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn´t help sent? And why did the administration lie about who was responsible? Members of Congress have asked hundreds of questions at hearings conducted by several investigative committees, but many of the most significant have been left unanswered. Information detailing what happened before, during and Headline corrected.

On Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough voiced his agreement with Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, who on Sunday’s “Face the Nation” on CBS questioned those Republicans who are threatening a filibuster on pending gun control legislation. Scarborough said such a filibuster would be an example of the GOP putting “rapists’ rights ahead over parents’ rights.” “[I] tell you what, Richard Haass, I saw John McCain there,” Scarborough said. “And I’m hopeful. Because, you know, there are a lot of guys out there in the Senate and they are going out because it’s a free shot.

Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.
