Chicago Area Bank Robberies
Nearly Double Over 2011

CBS Chicago, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:AltaD, 12/31/2012 3:26:57 PM

Bank robbers had a busy year in 2012. The FBI said robbers have hit 218 banks in the Chicago area as of Dec. 31, compared to 115 in 2011. “Close to double what we had in the prior year,” said FBI Special Agent Joan Hyde. WBBM Newsradio’s Brandis Friedman reports, while people often look for a way to explain a spike in bank robberies, Hyde said it’s not often tied to a greater issue, like the economy. “That just doesn’t play out. Typically the bank robbers are motivated by their need for money for a drug habit, or gambling debts,” she said.

Comments:
And yet, Rahm and his "top cop" insist crime is down.

The bankers steal the most money and they get away with it!

Same thing with pharmacies really. They´d rather the robber get away with the loot than a customer possibly getting caught in a crossfire.I mean you had a pharmacist get jail time for shooting a robber too many times.Laws favor the criminal these days and you can bet a lot of people look at these as a form of reparations.

0 P - Rahm is right ´cause bank robberies ain´t crimes. To Dems, it´s re-distribution of wealth.

Reply 7 - Posted by: lakerman1, 12/31/2012 5:24:52 PM     (No. 9092034)

There is a fairly simple mechanism to stop robberies. It consists of a bulletproof foyer, about 4´ by 4´, with a remote control locking system. When the robber tries to exit the bank, the inside door is locked behind him, the outside door locked in front of him.
Then it is a matter of simply sitting and staring at him until he surrenders.

# 7 Good one.

So-chances are you are either gunned down on the streets of Chicago or in prison for robbing a bank. Seems like a numbers game and the population should be down soon as Fluke becomes mayor.

Wow. Another reason for the rest of the country to emulate Emanuel´s vision of utopia.

The Chicago Public Schools’ plan to close 53 schools and 61 buildings, mostly in black neighborhoods, has some West Side residents vowing to fight the Emanuel administration until the end. As WBBM Newsradio’s Mike Krauser reports, to hear some tell it on the West Side, Mayor Rahm Emanuel is a racist liar who doesn’t care about the kids. And they’re just getting started. “I don’t see any Caucasians being moved, bussed, or murdered in the streets as they travel along gang lines, or stand on the steps of a CPS school,” said activist Wendy Matil Pearson as opponents

Real estate tax bills will be on the way tomorrow for Cook County residents, many of them containing the cold, hard truth about where we stand. And it isn’t pretty. Chief correspondent Jay Levine has been crunching the numbers all day, after CBS 2 broke the story last night, to find out how bad things are. Taxing bodies most people probably never heard of, let alone realized they were responsible for a big part of your property taxes. They build and run libraries and schools and parks. Some of which you didn’t need or couldn’t afford, but you’re paying for

It’s a dubious distinction for the new class of Illinois lawmakers being sworn in Wednesday in Springfield. It’s the first time in years that three sitting lawmakers simultaneously face criminal charges. Representatives Derrick Smith and LaShawn Ford and state Sen. Donne Trotter, all Chicago Democrats, face varying charges. Smith is under federal indictment in a bribery case. Ford is accused of bank fraud. Trotter is charged with trying to bring a gun onto a plane.

Chicago - The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Saturday said that President Obama’s reelection was “a great victory,” but that it would be incomplete with a reconstruction of urban America and an investment in the communities where the blacks who voted overwhelmingly for the president live. “We’re happy and full of pride,” in the president’s reelection, Jackson told the crowd at the Saturday morning forum at Rainbow/PUSH headquarters, 930 E. 50th St., “but our houses remain raggedy … our schools remain closed.” Despite attempts at voter suppression in states such as Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida,

$1.5 billion a year

Absent significant pension system reforms, it would cost the city an extra $1.5 billion a year beginning in 2016 to start the process of restoring financial health to its pension funds, aldermen were warned Monday. If those costs kicked in, services would be cut, taxes would soar or both. Continuing to rely solely on property taxes to cover pension costs would result in a tripling of the city levy, said Ald. Patrick O'Connor, 40th, chairman of the Workforce Development and Audit Committee. The tale of looming financial woe came at a six-hour hearing as part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Sen. John McCain says he doesn´t understand the threats from some of his Republican colleagues to filibuster a bill on background checks to buy guns. "I don´t understand it," the Arizona Republican said on Sunday of the threat coming from Sen. Rand Paul,Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee and nine other Republicans. "The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.” "What are we afraid of? ... If this issue is as important as we all think it is, why not take ... it up and debate?"

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.

Newtown killer Adam Lanza may have launched his murder spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School as an “act of revenge,” the Daily News has learned. A close friend of Lanza’s mother told The News that the troubled boy was a target of relentless bullying when he attended the Connecticut school years ago. “I think Adam felt betrayed by the school and this was his act of revenge,” said Marvin LaFontaine, a friend of Nancy Lanza’s. “Nancy told me he was being picked on at school. That they were just torturing him.”
