Brace For an Avalanche
of Unfunded Debt

US News and World Report, by Mortimer B. Zuckerman

All eyes have been on the clear and present danger of the fiscal cliff—understandably—but there´s a sound in the mountain range that´s even scarier than the cliff. It´s the sound made by an avalanche, the trillions of dollars of debt that´s heading our way, gathering speed and mass. For most people, it´s out of earshot now, and that´s the way our government prefers to play it in its financial statements. Liabilities are not set out there in accordance with the well-established norms of the private sector, where this overhang of liabilities would set off alarm bells in the markets, with

This is the best article written explaining this fiasco. The USA issues a financial statement. The auditors will not give a clean opinion. Every citizen should receive one, just as a private company, because it tells you how the country is doing, something the politicians would like kept hidden. Type in Financial statements of the U.S. at search and take a look. The country will inflate these debts away. Every government in history has. In future, our incomes will go to pay debt and interest, there will be no income left to pay for us, so our standards of living are going to drop. The 21st century for the USA will be the first in history where standards of living fall. All brought on by living free until the bills are due.

0bama has no understanding of economics; he just loves to spend. He is no leader, and his policies are killing this great country. The people who are getting all the "stuff" love it, and the others, well, they have to just keep working for less, and everything they buy costs more. The standard of living in this country will eventually fall for everyone, because eventually the workers will no longer be able to pay for the takers.

Mort Zuckerman had been a huge and influential supporter of Obama and of all Democrats. He is a bona fide media mogul. He could have and should have seen this disaster coming and used his media influence to sound the alarm loud and long, publicly and privately, for these last many years. He didn´t. It´s because folks like Zuckerman simply won´t put America first (being a Democrat comes first) there can be no path forward. We are doomed.

Let´s remember how the mortgage debacle and the Enron meltdown unfolded. Few people took notice until it was way too late. A repeat is on the way, only on a more massive scale.

During a previous financial crisis, and within Obama´s term, the government paid upcoming expenses by using the 401K´s of federal workers. The IRS had their 401´s temporarily confiscated, which is how I know. . Of course, when the debt ceiling was raised, money came back into those 401´s. But what has happened once, can happen again. I think Obama has his eye on every 401 in the country and wants that money.

Unfortunately the November election showed that there are enough people now in the country who will always vote for the politicians who they believe will give them the most in government benefits and services to ensure that the government will simply go on taxing and spending until the bitter end.

We have become a nation defined by its wants rather than its needs. The Fedzilla merely reflects its citizens. By the next election in 2014, the number of citizens on the government teat will be 49%. By 2016 it will be more than 50%. That is when the joy ride to oblivion will begin. Unless we can convince the new majority that it is in their best interest to change their tune. But I doubt it.

Mort´s dilemma...
We can´t inflate our way out, for inflation doesn´t solve our Social Security and Medicare challenges.

No, Mort. That is exactly what "we" will do. Your Social Security check may buy a few loaves of bread and some canned tuna. Your Medicare doctor will be from Burkina Faso.

A Connecticut woman’s Disney Dream cruise dissolved into a nightmare when she was thrown in jail on a shoplifting warrant — from 22 years ago. Robin Hall, 41, was nabbed Thursday when the Disney cruise ship docked in Port Canaveral, Fla., at the tail end of her vacation with her husband and two children, reported NBC affiliate WESH in Orlando. There, authorities were waiting for Hall. Her youthful indiscretion caught up with her when the ship conducted a check of all passengers looking for names on a terrorism watch list. “I was pulled to the side and told I had

Five Royal Marines have been charged with murder over the alleged slaying of an injured Taliban fighter. Another four have been released without charge, pending further inquiries over the incident in Afghanistan in 2011. The five men charged remain in custody. The next stage of the process is likely to be trial by Court Martial. The Royal Military arrested the troops after video footage on a Marine’s laptop allegedly showed members of 3 Commando Brigade discussing what to do with a wounded gunman inside a compound in Helmand more than a year ago.

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

That was quite a victory dance President Obama did Thursday while claiming Obamacare is “working” because eight million people have now supposedly signed up for the health care program. He even indulged in some less-than-subtle mockery of Republicans - and by extension the majority of Americans who have disapproved of Obamacare since before it became law. "The repeal debate is and should be over,” Obama said, taking a dig at Republicans who are “going through, you know, the stages of grief … anger and denial and all that stuff …” But a president who is viewed by most Americans as less

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

In a speech earlier this week, Lisa O. Monaco, President Barack Obama’s assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, insisted that American parents must be vigilant because their “confrontational” children could be on the verge of becoming terrorists. Monaco’s full, prepared text is available here. She presented the speech, entitled “Countering Violent Extremism and the Power of Community,” at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government on April 15. Monaco began her remarks by eloquently describing the lives tragically lost last year during the Boston Marathon bombings. Interestingly, the Harvard grad failed to mention the religion or the motive of brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

WASHINGTON--Rushing to an afternoon vote last month, Sen. Ted Cruz hopped the underground tram to the U.S. Capitol from his office across the street. The Texan planted his black ostrich cowboy boots in the middle of the small subway car without getting so much as a nod from the other senators--Republican or Democrat--amiably chatting or huddled in their seats. Mr. Cruz finds himself standing alone a lot these days. His response to the cold shoulders: "The establishment despised Ronald Reagan" before he became president, "but the people loved him." If the Rev. John DeBonville could preach a sermon to lift the souls of churchgoers across America, his message would be simple: Stop dressing so tacky for church. DeBonville has heard about the “come as you are” approach to dressing down for Sunday service, but he says the Sabbath is getting too sloppy. When he scans the pews of churches, DeBonville sees rows of people dressed in their Sunday worst. They saunter into church in baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes and grubby T-shirts. Some even slide into the pews carrying coffee in plastic foam containers as if they’re going to Starbucks. “It’s like

President Obama asserts that 8 million people have signed up for Obamacare, as though that were something to be proud of. In fact, Obamacare has always been a fiasco from a fiscal perspective–a black hole of subsidies and expanded Medicaid, with largely fictitious mechanisms in place to pay for it. As the number of subsidized participants grows, the disaster gets worse. Charles Blahous explains: Our national discussion…is missing the truly significant story here; what is unfolding before our eyes is a colossal fiscal disaster, poised to haunt legislators and taxpayers for decades to come. “On the third day, he rose again.” That line, from the Nicene Creed, is a foundational statement of Christian belief. It declares that three days after Jesus died on the cross, he was resurrected, a glimmer of the eternal life promised to believers. It’s the heart of the Easter story in seven little words. But how that statement is interpreted is the source of some of the deepest rifts in Christianity — and a stumbling block for some Christians, and more than a few skeptics. Did Jesus literally come back from the dead in a bodily resurrection, as many traditionalist
